This is a good spot for vistas, particularly from the viewing terrace that overlooks the bay. Unfortunately, this terrace is separated from the hotel by a road, and unless you are told about it, you wouldn’t know it is part of the hotel (we were not told on a recent visit). The beach is about a six-minute walk away and the fabulous Victorian Botanic Garden is a 15-minute walk away. Public rooms are lofty and elegant with a polished parquet floor in reception, large mirrors and framed black and white prints. A bright conservatory is the place for afternoon tea when the weather’s inclement. On a fine day, sit on Lloyd Loom chairs on the pretty trellis-covered terrace overlooking the pool and gardens or lounge out in the garden itself; the tropical planting hints at the unique microclimate of the area.
