SCR systems are widely adopted in diesel engines due to high NOx conversion efficiency. However, the nonlinearity of the SCR system and sensor uncertainty result in a challenging control problem. In order to overcome the control challenges, an LPV controller is proposed based on gain-scheduling parameters, that is, exhaust gas temperature and exhaust gas flow rate. Based on experimentally obtained data under the non-road transient driving cycle (NRTC), the simulations firstly show that the proposed controller yields high NOx conversion efficiency with a desired low NH3 slip. The performance of the proposed LPV controller is then compared with other controllers, including a gain-scheduling PID controller and a sliding mode controller. Additionally, the robustness is also demonstrated using the uncertainties ranging from 10 to 30%. The results show that the proposed controller is robustly stable under uncertainties. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diesel%20engine" title="diesel engine">diesel engine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gain-scheduling%20control" title=" gain-scheduling control"> gain-scheduling control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear%20parameter-varying" title=" linear parameter-varying"> linear parameter-varying</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=selective%20catalytic%20reduction" title=" selective catalytic reduction "> selective catalytic reduction </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128744/linear-parameter-varying-control-for-selective-catalytic-reduction-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/128744.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">146</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6795</span> Model Order Reduction for Frequency Response and Effect of Order of Method for Matching Condition</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aref%20Ghafouri">Aref Ghafouri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20javad%20Mollakazemi"> Mohammad javad Mollakazemi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farhad%20Asadi"> Farhad Asadi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, model order reduction method is used for approximation in linear and nonlinearity aspects in some experimental data. In high dimensional models, the selection of tuning parameter (or, penalty parameter) is often one of the crucial parts of the modeling. Cross-validation is one of the most common methods for the tuning parameter selection, which selects a parameter value with the smallest cross-validated score. However, selecting a single value as an "optimal" value for the parameter can be very unstable due to the sampling variation since the sample sizes of microarray data are often small. Our approach is to choose multiple candidates of tuning parameter first, then average the candidates with different weights depending on their performance. The additional step of estimating the weights and averaging the candidates rarely increase the computational cost, while it can considerably improve the traditional cross-validation. We show that the selected value from the suggested methods often lead to stable parameter selection as well as improved detection of significant genetic variables compared to the tradition cross-validation via real data and simulated data sets. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cross%20validation" title="cross validation">cross validation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parameter%20averaging" title=" parameter averaging"> parameter averaging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parameter%20selection" title=" parameter selection"> parameter selection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regularization%20parameter%20search" title=" regularization parameter search"> regularization parameter search</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36409/efficient-tuning-parameter-selection-by-cross-validated-score-in-high-dimensional-models" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36409.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">415</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6793</span> Stray Light Reduction Methodology by a Sinusoidal Light Modulation and Three-Parameter Sine Curve Fitting Algorithm for a Reflectance Spectrometer</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hung%20Chih%20Hsieh">Hung Chih Hsieh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheng%20Hao%20Chang"> Cheng Hao Chang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yun%20Hsiang%20Chang"> Yun Hsiang Chang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu%20Lin%20Chang"> Yu Lin Chang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the applications of the spectrometer, the stray light that comes from the environment affects the measurement results a lot. Hence, environment and instrument quality control for the stray reduction is critical for the spectral reflectance measurement. In this paper, a simple and practical method has been developed to correct a spectrometer's response for measurement errors arising from the environment's and instrument's stray light. A sinusoidal modulated light intensity signal was incident on a tested sample, and then the reflected light was collected by the spectrometer. Since a sinusoidal signal modulated the incident light, the reflected light also had a modulated frequency which was the same as the incident signal. Using the three-parameter sine curve fitting algorithm, we can extract the primary reflectance signal from the total measured signal, which contained the primary reflectance signal and the stray light from the environment. The spectra similarity between the extracted spectra by this proposed method with extreme environment stray light is 99.98% similar to the spectra without the environment's stray light. This result shows that we can measure the reflectance spectra without the affection of the environment's stray light. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectrometer" title="spectrometer">spectrometer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stray%20light" title=" stray light"> stray light</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=three-parameter%20sine%20curve%20fitting" title=" three-parameter sine curve fitting"> three-parameter sine curve fitting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectra%20extraction" title=" spectra extraction"> spectra extraction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138998/stray-light-reduction-methodology-by-a-sinusoidal-light-modulation-and-three-parameter-sine-curve-fitting-algorithm-for-a-reflectance-spectrometer" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138998.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">248</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6792</span> Tuned Mass Damper Vibration Control of Pedestrian Bridge</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qinglin%20Shu">Qinglin Shu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Based on the analysis of the structural vibration comfort of a domestic bridge, this paper studies the vibration reduction control principle of TMD, the derivation process of design parameter optimization and how to simulate TMD in the finite element software ANSYS. Parameter selection in lattice-based FHE schemes is a practical challenges for experts or non-experts. Towards a solution to this problem, we introduce a hybrid principles-based approach that combines theoretical with experimental analyses. To begin, we use regression analysis to examine the parameters on the performance and security. The fact that the FHE parameters induce different behaviors on performance, security and Ciphertext Expansion Factor (CEF) that makes the process of parameter selection more challenging. To address this issue, We use a multi-objective optimization algorithm to select the optimum parameter set for performance, CEF and security at the same time. As a result of this optimization, we get an improved parameter set for better performance at a given security level by ensuring correctness and security against lattice attacks by providing at least 128-bit security. Our result enables average ~ 5x smaller CEF and mostly better performance in comparison to the parameter sets given in [1]. This approach can be considered a semiautomated parameter selection. Base bleed is the method which bleeds the gas on the tail of the flight vehicle and reduces the base drag, which occupies over 50% of the total drag in any flight speed. Thus base bleed can reduce the total drag significantly, and enhance the total flight range. Drag reduction ratio of the base bleed is strongly related to the mass flow rate of the bleeding gas. Thus selecting appropriate mass flow rate is important. However, since the flight vehicle has various flight speed, same mass flow rate of the base bleed can have different drag reduction effect during the flight. Thus, this study investigates the effect of the drag reduction depending on the flight speed by numerical analysis using STAR-CCM+. The analysis model is 155mm diameter projectile with boat-tailed shape base. Angle of the boat-tail is chosen previously for minimum drag coefficient. Numerical analysis is conducted for Mach 2 and Mach 3, with various mass flow rate, or the injection parameter I, of the bleeding gas and the temperature of the bleeding gas, is fixed to 300K. The results showed that I=0.025 has the minimum drag at Mach 2, and I=0.014 has the minimum drag at Mach 3. Thus as the Mach number is higher, the lower mass flow rate of the base bleed has more effect on drag reduction. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=base%20bleed" title="base bleed">base bleed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=supersonic" title=" supersonic"> supersonic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drag%20reduction" title=" drag reduction"> drag reduction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recirculation" title=" recirculation"> recirculation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69358/drag-reduction-of-base-bleed-at-various-flight-conditions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/69358.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">415</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6789</span> Bleeding-Heart Altruists and Calculating Utilitarians: Applying Process Dissociation to Self-sacrificial Dilemmas</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Simpson">David Simpson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyle%20Nash"> Kyle Nash</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> There is considerable evidence linking slow, deliberative reasoning (system 2) with utilitarian judgments in dilemmas involving the sacrificing of another person for the greater good (other-sacrificial dilemmas). Joshua Greene has argued, based on this kind of evidence, that system 2 drives utilitarian judgments. However, the evidence on whether system 2 is associated with utilitarian judgments in self-sacrificial dilemmas is more mixed. We employed process dissociation to measure a self-sacrificial utilitarian (SU) parameter and an other-sacrificial (OU) utilitarian parameter. It was initially predicted that contra Greene, the cognitive reflection test (CRT) would only be positively correlated with the OU parameter and not the SU parameter. However, Greene鈥檚 hypothesis was corroborated: the CRT positively correlated with both the OU parameter and the SU parameter. By contrast, the CRT did not correlate with the other two moral parameters we extracted (altruism and deontology). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual-process%20model" title="dual-process model">dual-process model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=utilitarianism" title=" utilitarianism"> utilitarianism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=altruism" title=" altruism"> altruism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reason" title=" reason"> reason</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotion" title=" emotion"> emotion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=process%20dissociation" title=" process dissociation"> process dissociation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148724/bleeding-heart-altruists-and-calculating-utilitarians-applying-process-dissociation-to-self-sacrificial-dilemmas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148724.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">153</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6788</span> Robust Stabilization of Rotational Motion of Underwater Robots against Parameter Uncertainties</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Riku%20Hayashida">Riku Hayashida</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomoaki%20Hashimoto"> Tomoaki Hashimoto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper provides a robust stabilization method for rotational motion of underwater robots against parameter uncertainties. The bipolar reduction is an important, but often overlooked and misidentified, strategy for lithic miniaturization. This experiment addresses the role of axial bipolar reduction in processes of lithic miniaturization. The experiments answer two questions: what benefits does axial bipolar reduction provide, and can we distinguish axial bipolar reduction from freehand reduction? Our experiments demonstrate the numerous advantages of bipolar reduction in contexts of lithic miniaturization. Bipolar reduction produces more cutting edge per gram and is more economical than freehand reduction. Our cutting edge to mass values exceeds even those obtained with pressure blade production on high-quality obsidian. The experimental results show that bipolar reduction produces cutting edge quicker and is more efficient than freehand reduction. We show that bipolar reduction can be distinguished from freehand reduction with a high degree of confidence using the quantitative criteria in these experiments. These observations overturn long-held perceptions about bipolar reduction. We conclude by discussing the role of bipolar reduction in lithic miniaturization and Stone Age economics more broadly. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lithic%20miniaturization" title="lithic miniaturization">lithic miniaturization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bipolar%20reduction" title=" bipolar reduction"> bipolar reduction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=late%20Pleistocene" title=" late Pleistocene"> late Pleistocene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Southern%20Africa" title=" Southern Africa"> Southern Africa</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61442/bipolar-reduction-and-lithic-miniaturization-experimental-results-and-archaeological-implications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61442.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">719</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6785</span> Method of Parameter Calibration for Error Term in Stochastic User Equilibrium Traffic Assignment Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiang%20Zhang">Xiang Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Rey"> David Rey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Travis%20Waller"> S. First, the significance of the parameter is explored through a numerical example. Second, the parameter calibration method is developed based on the Logit-based route choice model. The calibration process is realized through multiple nonlinear regression, using sequential quadratic programming combined with least square method. For the elastic foundation, the most widely used models are one-parameter mechanical models or two-parameter models to include continuity and cohesion of typical foundations, with the two-parameter usually considered the better of the two. Knowledge of free vibration characteristics of beams on an elastic foundation is considered necessary for optimal design solutions in many engineering applications, and in this work, the efficient and accurate variational iteration method is developed and used to calculate natural frequencies of a Timoshenko beam on a two-parameter foundation. The variational iteration method is a technique capable of dealing with some linear and non-linear problems in an easy and efficient way. The calculations are compared with those using a finite-element method and other analytical solutions, and it is shown that the results are accurate and are obtained efficiently. It is found that the effect of the presence of the two-parameter foundation is to increase the beam’s natural frequencies and this is thought to be because of the shear-layer stiffness, which has an effect on the elastic stiffness. By setting the two-parameter model’s stiffness parameter to zero, it is possible to obtain a one-parameter foundation model, and so, comparison between the two foundation models is also made. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Timoshenko%20beam" title="Timoshenko beam">Timoshenko beam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variational%20iteration%20method" title=" variational iteration method"> variational iteration method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=two-parameter%20elastic%20foundation%20model" title=" two-parameter elastic foundation model"> two-parameter elastic foundation model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95779/vibration-of-a-beam-on-an-elastic-foundation-using-the-variational-iteration-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95779.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">194</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6783</span> The Influence of Thermal Radiation and Chemical Reaction on MHD Micropolar Fluid in The Presence of Heat Generation/Absorption</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Binyam%20Teferi">Binyam Teferi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Numerical and theoretical analysis of mixed convection flow of magneto- hydrodynamics micropolar fluid with stretching capillary in the presence of thermal radiation, chemical reaction, viscous dissipation, and heat generation/ absorption have been studied. The non-linear partial differential equations of momentum, angular velocity, energy, and concentration are converted into ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations which can be solved numerically. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by using Runge Kutta fourth and fifth order along with the shooting method. The effect of physical parameters viz., micropolar parameter, unsteadiness parameter, thermal buoyancy parameter, concentration buoyancy parameter, Hartmann number, spin gradient viscosity parameter, microinertial density parameter, thermal radiation parameter, Prandtl number, Eckert number, heat generation or absorption parameter, Schmidt number and chemical reaction parameter on flow variables viz., the velocity of the micropolar fluid, microrotation, temperature, and concentration has been analyzed and discussed graphically. MATLAB code is used to analyze numerical and theoretical facts. From the simulation study, it can be concluded that an increment of micropolar parameter, Hartmann number, unsteadiness parameter, thermal and concentration buoyancy parameter results in decrement of velocity flow of micropolar fluid; microrotation of micropolar fluid decreases with an increment of micropolar parameter, unsteadiness parameter, microinertial density parameter, and spin gradient viscosity parameter; temperature profile of micropolar fluid decreases with an increment of thermal radiation parameter, Prandtl number, micropolar parameter, unsteadiness parameter, heat absorption, and viscous dissipation parameter; concentration of micropolar fluid decreases as unsteadiness parameter, Schmidt number and chemical reaction parameter increases. Furthermore, computational values of local skin friction coefficient, local wall coupled coefficient, local Nusselt number, and local Sherwood number for different values of parameters have been investigated. In this paper, the following important results are obtained; An increment of micropolar parameter and Hartmann number results in a decrement of velocity flow of micropolar fluid. Microrotation decreases with an increment of the microinertial density parameter. Temperature decreases with an increasing value of the thermal radiation parameter and viscous dissipation parameter. Concentration decreases as the values of Schmidt number and chemical reaction parameter increases. The coefficient of local skin friction is enhanced with an increase in values of both the unsteadiness parameter and micropolar parameter. Increasing values of unsteadiness parameter and micropolar parameter results in an increment of the local couple stress. An increment of values of unsteadiness parameter and thermal radiation parameter results in an increment of the rate of heat transfer. As the values of Schmidt number and unsteadiness parameter increases, Sherwood number decreases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20radiation" title="thermal radiation">thermal radiation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20reaction" title=" chemical reaction"> chemical reaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=viscous%20dissipation" title=" viscous dissipation"> viscous dissipation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20absorption%2F%20generation" title=" heat absorption/ generation"> heat absorption/ generation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=similarity%20transformation" title=" similarity transformation"> similarity transformation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155297/the-influence-of-thermal-radiation-and-chemical-reaction-on-mhd-micropolar-fluid-in-the-presence-of-heat-generationabsorption" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155297.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">128</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6782</span> The Hansen Solubility Parameters of Some Lignosulfonates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bernt%20O.%20Myrvold">Bernt O. In previous years, many existing dams have been treated by grouting, but with varying degrees of success. One of the major reasons for this erratic performance is the unsuitable selection of the grouting materials to reduce the seepage. Grouting is an effective way to improve the engineering properties of the soil and strengthen of the permeability of the soil to reduce the seepage. The purpose of this paper is to focus on the efficiency of current available grouting materials and techniques from construction, environmental and economical point of view. The seepage reduction usually accomplished by either chemical grouting or cementious grouting using ultrafine cement. In addition, the study shows a comparison between grouting materials according to their degree of permeability reduction and cost. The application of seepage reduction is based on the permeation grouting using grout curtain installation. The computer program (SEEP/W) is employed to model a dam rested on sandy soil, using grout curtain to reduce seepage quantity and hydraulic gradient by different grouting materials. This study presents a relationship that takes into account the permeability of the soil, grout curtain spacing and a new performance parameter that can be used to predict the best selection of grouting materials for seepage reduction. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seepage" title="seepage">seepage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sandy%20soil" title=" sandy soil"> sandy soil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grouting" title=" grouting"> grouting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=permeability" title=" permeability"> permeability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41047/minimization-of-seepage-in-sandy-soil-using-different-grouting-types" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41047.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">367</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6780</span> Parameter Tuning of Complex Systems Modeled in Agent Based Modeling and Simulation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rabia%20Korkmaz%20Tan">Rabia Korkmaz Tan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C5%9Eebnem%20Bora"> 艦ebnem Bora</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The major problem encountered when modeling complex systems with agent-based modeling and simulation techniques is the existence of large parameter spaces. A complex system model cannot be expected to reflect the whole of the real system, but by specifying the most appropriate parameters, the actual system can be represented by the model under certain conditions. When the studies conducted in recent years were reviewed, it has been observed that there are few studies for parameter tuning problem in agent based simulations, and these studies have focused on tuning parameters of a single model. In this study, an approach of parameter tuning is proposed by using metaheuristic algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Artificial Bee Colonies (ABC), Firefly (FA) algorithms. With this hybrid structured study, the parameter tuning problems of the models in the different fields were solved. The new approach offered was tested in two different models, and its achievements in different problems were compared. The simulations and the results reveal that this proposed study is better than the existing parameter tuning studies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parameter%20tuning" title="parameter tuning">parameter tuning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agent%20based%20modeling%20and%20simulation" title=" agent based modeling and simulation"> agent based modeling and simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metaheuristic%20algorithms" title=" metaheuristic algorithms"> metaheuristic algorithms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=complex%20systems" title=" complex systems"> complex systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77307/parameter-tuning-of-complex-systems-modeled-in-agent-based-modeling-and-simulation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77307.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">226</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6779</span> Optimization of a Cone Loudspeaker Parameter of Design Parameters by Analysis of a Narrow Acoustic Sound Pathway </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yue%20Hu">Yue Hu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xilu%20Zhao"> Xilu Zhao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Takao%20Yamaguchi"> Takao Yamaguchi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manabu%20Sasajima"> Manabu Sasajima</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yoshio%20Koike"> Yoshio Koike</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akira%20Hara"> Akira Hara</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study tried optimization of design parameter of a cone loudspeaker unit as an example of the high flexibility of the products design. This premise has been proven by converting it to a stochastic differential equation using the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. The formulated stochastic differential equation is further solved analytically using the Euler and the Kolmogorov Forward equations, thereby obtaining the probability density function using the Fourier transformation, thereby proving that the Hubble's parameter varies stochastically. This is further corroborated by simulating the observations using Python and R-software for validation of the premise postulated. We can further draw conclusion that the randomness in forces affecting the white noise can eventually affect the Hubble鈥檚 Parameter leading to scale invariance and thereby causing stochastic fluctuations in the density and the rate of expansion of the Universe. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chapman%20Kolmogorov%20forward%20differential%20equations" title="Chapman Kolmogorov forward differential equations">Chapman Kolmogorov forward differential equations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fourier%20transformation" title=" fourier transformation"> fourier transformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hubble%27s%20parameter" title=" hubble's parameter"> hubble's parameter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ornstein-uhlenbeck%20process" title=" ornstein-uhlenbeck process "> ornstein-uhlenbeck process </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stochastic%20differential%20equations" title=" stochastic differential equations "> stochastic differential equations </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116444/stochastic-variation-of-the-hubbles-parameter-using-ornstein-uhlenbeck-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116444.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">201</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6775</span> An Improved Parameter Identification Method for Three Phase Induction Motor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liang%20Zhao">Liang Zhao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chong-quan%20Zhong"> Chong-quan Zhong </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to improve the control performance of vector inverter, an improved parameter identification solution for induction motor is proposed in this paper. In physiological flows this phenomena can be observed in an eccentric catheterized artery with inner cylinder wall is impermeable and outer cylinder wall is permeable. Blood is a heterogeneous fluid having liquid phase consisting of plasma in which a solid phase of suspended cells and proteins. Arterial wall gets damaged due to aging and lipid molecules get deposited between damaged tissue cells. Blood flow increases towards the damaged tissues in the artery. In this investigation blood is modeled as two phase fluid as one is a fluid phase and the other is particulate phase. The velocity of the fluid phase and rate of flow are obtained by transforming eccentric annulus to concentric annulus with the conformal mapping. The formulated governing equations are analytically solved for the velocity and rate of flow. The numerical investigations are carried out by varying eccentricity parameter, slip parameter and drag parameter. Enhancement of slip parameter signifies loss of fluid then the velocity and rate of flow will be decreased. As particulate drag parameter increases then the velocity as well as rate flow decreases. Eccentricity facilitates transport of more fluid then the velocity and rate of flow increases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=catheter" title="catheter">catheter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=slip%20parameter" title=" slip parameter"> slip parameter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drag%20parameter" title=" drag parameter"> drag parameter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eccentricity" title=" eccentricity"> eccentricity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22025/effect-of-velocity-slip-on-two-phase-flow-in-an-eccentric-annular-region" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/22025.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">523</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6773</span> Weighted G2 Multi-Degree Reduction of Bezier Curves</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salisu%20ibrahim">Salisu ibrahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdalla%20Rababah"> Abdalla Rababah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this research, we use Weighted G2-Multi-degree reduction of Bezier curve of degree n to a Bezier curve of degree m, m < n. Therefore, it is important to determine reliable values for the accuracy of stability analysis. Direct shear tests are mostly performed to determine the shear strength of cohesionless soils. The major limitation of the direct shear test is that the failure takes place through the pre-defined failure plane but the failure is not along pre-defined plane and is along the weakest plane in actual shearing mechanism that goes on in the field. This leads to overestimating the strength parameter; hence, a new apparatus called simple shear is developed and used in this study to determine the shear strength parameter that simulates the field conditions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=direct%20shear" title="direct shear">direct shear</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simple%20shear" title=" simple shear"> simple shear</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=angle%20of%20shear%20resistance" title=" angle of shear resistance"> angle of shear resistance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cohesionless%20soils" title=" cohesionless soils"> cohesionless soils</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15739/calculating-shear-strength-parameter-from-simple-shear-apparatus" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15739.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">411</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6770</span> An Analytical Study on the Vibration Reduction Method of Railway Station Using TPU</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jinho%20Hur">Jinho Hur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Minjung%20Shin"> Minjung Shin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heekyu%20Kim"> Heekyu Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In many places, new railway constructions in the city are being used to build a viaduct station to take advantage of the space below the line, for difficulty of securing railway site and disconnections of areas. The space under the viaduct has limited to use by noise and vibration. In order to use it for various purposes, reducing noise and vibration is required. The vibration reduction method for new structures is recently developed enough to use as accommodation, but the reduction method for existing structures is still far-off. In this study, it suggests vibration reduction method by filling vibration reduction material to column members which is path of structure-bone-noise from trains run. Because most of railroad stations are reinforced concrete structures. It compares vibration reduction of station applied the method and original station by FEM analysis. As a result, reduction of vibration acceleration level in bandwidth 15~30Hz can be reduced. The dependency of the simulated detection efficiency of the TDCR, by using Monte Carlo simulation Geant4 code, on the Birks factor (kB) and defocusing parameter has been examined especially for low energy beta-emitter radionuclides such as 3H and 14C, for which this dependency is relevant. The results achieved in this analysis can be used for selecting the best kB factor and the defocusing parameter for computing theoretical TDCR parameter value. The theoretical results were compared with the available ones, measured by the ENEA TDCR portable detector, for some pure-beta emitter radionuclides. This analysis allowed to improve the knowledge of the characteristics of the ENEA TDCR detector that can be used as a traveling instrument for in-situ measurements with particular benefits in many applications in the field of nuclear medicine and in the nuclear energy industry. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Birks%20constant" title="Birks constant">Birks constant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=defocusing%20parameter" title=" defocusing parameter"> defocusing parameter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GEANT4%20code" title=" GEANT4 code"> GEANT4 code</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TDCR%20parameter" title=" TDCR parameter"> TDCR parameter</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131757/effect-of-birks-constant-and-defocusing-parameter-on-triple-to-double-coincidence-ratio-parameter-in-monte-carlo-simulation-geant4" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131757.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">148</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6768</span> Size Reduction of Images Using Constraint Optimization Approach for Machine Communications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chee%20Sun%20Won">Chee Sun Won</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents the size reduction of images for machine-to-machine communications.
