It does not permit you to enter Canada. You must have a study permit if your program or course of study takes more than 6 months to complete. Your Study Permit must be valid for the duration of your program in Canada. The Study Permit gives you legal status in Canada to study and automatically expires 90 days after the completion of your program.</p> <p>Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has indicated you <a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/apply.html" target="_blank">must apply for your study permit online</a>.   </p> <p>You must always follow the <a href="http://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare-arrival/study-permit-conditions.html#s01" target="_blank">conditions of your Study Permit</a>.</p> <p>In the context of COVID-19, IRCC has put in place <a href="https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid" target="_blank">special measures for international students</a> that are subject to change. Please note that IRCC is responsible for evaluating your application for a study permit. Laurentian University has no control over the decision or processing times, and cannot communicate with IRCC on your behalf.</p> <p> </p> <h4>How to Bring Dependants with You to Canada</h4> <p>Certain family members may also be eligible to travel with you or <a href="https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors/immediate-family.html#how-citizens-prs" target="_blank">reunite with you if you are already in Canada</a>. Throughout your degree, it will be your responsibility to know the deadlines and submit your documents and assignments on time.</p> <p> </p> <h3><a name="2.2">2.2 Apply for Housing</a></h3> <h4>On-campus Housing</h4> <p>Laurentian University guarantees housing for one year to newly admitted first-year undergraduate students who meet the housing guarantee criteria. Please note that on-campus residences are primarily for first-year students. However, some areas are designated for upper-year students. Click on “Residence” on your <a href="https://my.laurentian.ca/" target="_blank">Laurentian Applicant Portal</a> to submit your application before the deadline. </p> <p><strong>The accommodation guarantee is valid until June 1 at 11:59 p.m. (EDT). Following this deadline, you can continue <a href="https://my.laurentian.ca/" target="_blank">to apply to housing on campus</a>, but the offers will be made on a first come first-served basis.</strong></p> <p>Housing Services has created a <a href="https://laurentian.ca/accommodations">Residence Updates website</a> to keep you informed about the accommodations plan for the upcoming academic year. Your options to consider are:</p> <ul> <li>Staying in a hotel or motel for a few nights (approximately $100 CAD to $170 CAD per night)</li> <li>Stay at a Hostel or find a room through <a href="https://www.airbnb.ca/" target="_blank">Airbnb</a> for a few nights (approximately $70 to $100 per night)</li> </ul> <p> </p> <h3><a name="2.3">2.3 Activate Your Account</a></h3> <p>After accepting your offer, 2 or 3 months prior to your program start date you will receive an onboarding email to ask you to activate your student account. Visit <a href="http://my.laurentian.ca/start" target="_blank">my.laurentian.ca/start</a> to complete the onboarding. You will need your student number at this stage. Refer to your admissions letter for your student number.</p> <p>Once you’ve completed the survey and your account is activated, you will receive your Laurentian email address. You will need to know both your student number and email throughout the duration of your studies.</p> <p>Once your account is active, it is important to visit <a href="http://my.laurentian.ca/" target="_blank">my.laurentian.ca</a> regularly for key updates as all communications from Laurentian University will be sent to your Laurentian email address. <strong>*We will no longer use your personal email to communicate with you.</strong> Your student portal is where you can receive important emails from us, upload your photo for your student card, register online for courses and much more. We suggest adding your Laurentian email address to your Google Mail Account (Gmail).</p> <p><strong>Tip</strong>: After activating your account, you will need to use your user name (not student number) to login to your <a href="http://my.laurentian.ca/" target="_blank">MyLaurentian Portal</a>.</p> <p> </p> <h3><a name="2.4">2.4 Course Enrolment</a></h3> <p>In Canada, you must choose your courses yourself. It is very important to prepare your course selection before the enrolment period as courses can fill up quickly. Please verify the <a href="https://laurentian.ca/important-dates">registration start date and time</a> that apply to you.</p> <p><strong>Important:</strong></p> <ul> <li>To register for courses, access the Self-Service platform via your <a href="http://my.laurentian.ca/" target="_blank">my.laurentian.ca</a> account.</li> <li>Remember to <strong>enrol for Fall AND Winter courses at the same time</strong>. Courses can fill up quickly!</li> <li>A planned course is not a registered course.
