Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.</span></td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><span class="btext2">However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.</span></td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><span class="btext3">However not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.</span></td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><span class="btext4">Howbeit <i>there is</i> not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat <i>it</i> as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.</span></td><td width="20%" class="odd" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><span class="btext5">However, not everyone has this knowledge. In fact, some have been so used to idolatry up until now that when they eat food offered to an idol, their conscience, being weak, is defiled. </span></td></tr></table> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"><tr><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><span class="btext1">But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.</span></td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><span class="btext2">Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.</span></td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><span class="btext3">But food will not commend us to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat.</span></td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><span class="btext4">But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.</span></td><td width="20%" class="even" valign="top"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_corinthians/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><span class="btext5">Food will not make us acceptable to God.
