Примерно 10 процентов жителей являются коренным населением. Они продолжают традиционную деятельность и одновременно адаптируются к современному миру. Тем не менее, по мере изменения окружающей среды Арктики меняются источники средств к существовванию, культуры, традиции, языки и самобытность коренных народов и других общин.</p> </div> <p>Изменения в Арктике влияют на жителей по-разному. Арктические сообщества уже сталкиваются с проблемами, возникающими в результате воздействия изменения климата, демонстрируя необходимость действий по повышению устойчивости и облегчению к адаптации. Их уровень воздействия в значительной степени зависит от их образа жизни, включая диеты. Программа арктического мониторинга и оценки (АМАП) проводит оценку воздействия различных загрязнителей на здоровье человека с 1998 г. и продолжает вносить свой вклад в существенную базу знаний по этому вопросу.</p> <p>Арктические сообщества также испытывают повышенный уровень самоубийств, особенно среди молодежи. Они призвали к более активному участию в вопросах, которые их затрагивают - сейчас и в будущем.</p> <p>За эти годы Арктический совет активизировал свои усилия по вовлечению молодежи. Рабочие группы, такие как “Сохранение арктической флоры и фауны” (КАФФ) и СДВГ были предшественниками не только того, как смотрят на то, как молодежь подвержена изменениям в Арктике, но и активного вовлечения их в свои проекты.
