Join this edWebinar as we dive into some of the biggest questions we’re asked about decodable texts and receive practical\, research-based answers to help you make strategic choices when working with your students. \nWe’ll begin by reviewing the general phonics scope and sequence you can expect most decodable texts to follow\, and you’ll learn ways to monitor your readers’ progress along that continuum. Then\, we’ll explain how to use that data to curate individual book baggies that suit each child’s instructional needs and interests. You’ll also watch videos of teachers in action to better understand how to effectively introduce and use decodable texts across your literacy block. We’ll share a small group structure that incorporates isolated phonics review and supports kids to transfer that knowledge to decode in context. Then you’ll learn how you can easily replicate this structure to guide your own lesson planning. We’ll also share ideas for using decodable texts to target key comprehension skills with both fiction and nonfiction texts. \nAt the end of the session\, expect to hear about some of our favorite decodable series\, including fiction and nonfiction Jump Rope Readers\, and a peek at a brand-new series coming soon! Every assignment\, project\, presentation\, and assessment is a challenge; however\, not all students understand why they are doing these challenges and how to persist when the challenge becomes difficult. To help students take charge of challenges\, Jay Jackson helps educators lead class discussions regarding necessary character traits including self-awareness\, integrity\, purpose\, passion\, positive mindset\, courage\, commitment\, and grit. \nJay’s process uses simple tools that educators can use to foster deep and meaningful discussions about the aforementioned character traits\, being very intentional about why and how to take on challenges without taking too much class time away from content. If your students need to improve their grit\, this process will aid in helping students understand how they can be successful and happy by taking charge of challenges. In this edWebinar\, attendees will: \n\nLearn to use tools to lead important student-led discussions about how students can best take on challenges to lead to success and happiness\nUse tools to reflect on their own practices in the classroom regarding taking on challenges\nHear about areas that affect how students and teachers approach challenges\, including self-awareness\, integrity\, purpose\, passion\, positive mindset\, courage\, commitment\, grit\, and flow\nBrainstorm lesson ideas that teach content but also allow students to reflect on the character trait above that the educator wants to emphasize\n\nThis edWebinar will be of interest to K-12 teachers and school leaders. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation. \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter \nJay Jackson is an educator at Fremont Unified School District and has been a teacher or administrator since 2002. Before becoming an educator\, he served for seven years as the Assistant Wrestling Coach at Stanford University. His focus in education is to help students become more successful and happier versions of themselves as they take on challenges. He accomplishes this by using simple tools that\, when coupled with questions\, allow him to integrate concepts of sports psychology into academic classes. These tools promote student introspection on how they can best achieve peak performance while remaining joyful. \n\nLearn more about viewing the live presentation and the recording\, earning your CE certificate\, and using our new accessibility features. \nJoin the Inspire Learning & Engagement community to network with educators\, participate in online discussions\, receive invitations to upcoming edWebinars\, and view recordings of previous programs to earn CE certificates. \n\n \nSince 1998\, Solution Tree has worked to empower educators.
