Preparing the Passover (Psalm 41:1-13; Matthew 26:17-25; Mark 14:12-21; John 13:18-30)<a href="/luke/22-7.htm">7</a>And the day of Unleavened Bread came, on which it was necessary for the Passover lamb to be sacrificed. <a href="/luke/22-8.htm">8</a>And He sent Peter and John, having said, “Having gone, prepare the Passover for us, that we might eat it.” <a href="/luke/22-9.htm">9</a>And they said to Him, “Where do You desire we should prepare it?” <a href="/luke/22-10.htm">10</a>And He said to them, “Behold, of you having entered into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house into which he enters, <a href="/luke/22-11.htm">11</a>and you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ <a href="/luke/22-12.htm">12</a>And he will show you a large furnished upper room. Prepare it there.” <a href="/luke/22-13.htm">13</a>And having gone, they found it as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover. The Last Supper (Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34)<a href="/luke/22-14.htm">14</a>And when the hour was come, He reclined, and the apostles with Him. <a href="/luke/22-15.htm">15</a>And He said to them, “With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. <a href="/luke/22-16.htm">16</a>For I say to you that never again will I eat thereof, until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” <a href="/luke/22-17.htm">17</a>And having received the cup, having given thanks, He said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves. <a href="/luke/22-18.htm">18</a>For I say to you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now until the kingdom of God shall come.” <a href="/luke/22-19.htm">19</a>And having taken the bread, having given thanks, He broke it and gave to them, saying, “This is My body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me,” <a href="/luke/22-20.htm">20</a>and the cup likewise, after having supped, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is being poured out for you.<a href="#fna" title="Some manuscripts end verse 19 after ‘This is My body’ and do not include verse 20">a</a> <a href="/luke/22-21.htm">21</a>But, behold, the hand of him betraying Me is with Me on the table. <a href="/luke/22-22.htm">22</a>For indeed the Son of Man goes according to that having been determined. But woe to that man by whom He is betrayed.” <a href="/luke/22-23.htm">23</a>And they began to question among themselves who then of them it might be who is about to do this. Who is the Greatest?<a href="/luke/22-24.htm">24</a>And there was also a dispute among them which of them is thought to be the greatest. <a href="/luke/22-25.htm">25</a>And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles rule over them, and those exercising authority over them are called benefactors. <a href="/luke/22-26.htm">26</a>But you shall not be thus. Instead, the greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and the one leading, as the one serving. <a href="/luke/22-27.htm">27</a>For who is greater, the one reclining or the one serving? Is not the one reclining? But I am in your midst as the One serving. <a href="/luke/22-28.htm">28</a>Now you are those having remained with Me in My trials. <a href="/luke/22-29.htm">29</a>And I appoint to you a kingdom, as My Father appointed to Me, <a href="/luke/22-30.htm">30</a>so that you may eat and may drink at My table in My kingdom, and may sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial (Matthew 26:31-35; Mark 14:27-31; John 13:36-38)<a href="/luke/22-31.htm">31</a>Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have all of you to sift like wheat. <a href="/luke/22-32.htm">32</a>But I begged for you, that your faith may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” <a href="/luke/22-33.htm">33</a>And he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death.” <a href="/luke/22-34.htm">34</a>And He said, “I tell you Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you will deny three times knowing Me.” <a href="/luke/22-35.htm">35</a>And He said to them, “When I sent you without purse and bag and sandals, did you lack anything?” And they said, “Nothing.” <a href="/luke/22-36.htm">36</a>And He said to them, “But now, the one having a purse, let him take it, and likewise a bag; and the one having no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy one. <a href="/luke/22-37.htm">37</a>For I say to you that this which has been written, it behooves to be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was reckoned with the lawless.’<a href="#fnb" title="Isaiah 53:12">b</a> For also the things concerning Me have an end.” <a href="/luke/22-38.htm">38</a>And they said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.” Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives (Matthew 26:36-46; Mark 14:32-42)<a href="/luke/22-39.htm">39</a>And having gone forth, He went according to the custom to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed Him. <a href="/luke/22-40.htm">40</a>And having come to the place, He said to them, “Pray not to enter into temptation.” <a href="/luke/22-41.htm">41</a>And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and having fallen on the knees, He was praying, <a href="/luke/22-42.htm">42</a>saying, “Father, if You are willing, take away this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.” <a href="/luke/22-43.htm">43</a>And an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. <a href="/luke/22-44.htm">44</a>And having been in agony, He was praying more earnestly. And His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.<a href="#fnc" title="Some manuscripts do not include verses 43 and 44">c</a> <a href="/luke/22-45.htm">45</a>And having risen up from the prayer, having come to the disciples, He found them sleeping from the grief. <a href="/luke/22-46.htm">46</a>And He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Having risen up, pray that you might not enter into temptation.” The Betrayal of Jesus (Matthew 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-52; John 18:1-14)<a href="/luke/22-47.htm">47</a>While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd, and he who is called Judas, one of the Twelve, was going before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. <a href="/luke/22-48.htm">48</a>And Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” <a href="/luke/22-49.htm">49</a>And those around Him, having seen what would be, said, “Lord, should we strike with the sword?” <a href="/luke/22-50.htm">50</a>And a certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. <a href="/luke/22-51.htm">51</a>And Jesus answering said, “Allow you thus far!” And having touched the ear, He healed him. <a href="/luke/22-52.htm">52</a>And Jesus said to those having come out against Him, the chief priests, and captains of the temple and elders, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as against a robber? <a href="/luke/22-53.htm">53</a>Every day of Me being with you in the temple, you did not stretch out the hands against Me; but this is your hour, and the power of the darkness.” Peter Denies Jesus (Matthew 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; John 18:15-18)<a href="/luke/22-54.htm">54</a>And having seized Him, they led Him away, and led Him into the house of the high priest. And Peter was following afar off. <a href="/luke/22-55.htm">55</a>And they having kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard, and having sat down together, Peter was sitting among them. <a href="/luke/22-56.htm">56</a>And a certain servant girl, having seen him sitting by the light, and having looked intently on him, said, “This one also was with Him.” <a href="/luke/22-57.htm">57</a>But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” <a href="/luke/22-58.htm">58</a>And after a little, having seen him, another was saying, “You also are of them.” But Peter was saying, “Man, I am not.” <a href="/luke/22-59.htm">59</a>And about one hour having elapsed, a certain other strongly affirmed it, saying, “Of a truth, this one also was with Him; for he is also a Galilean.” <a href="/luke/22-60.htm">60</a>But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you say.” And immediately while he was speaking, the rooster crowed. <a href="/luke/22-61.htm">61</a>And having turned, the Lord looked at Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” <a href="/luke/22-62.htm">62</a>And having gone forth outside, he wept bitterly. The Soldiers Mock Jesus (Isaiah 50:4-11; Matthew 27:27-31; Mark 15:16-20; John 19:1-15)<a href="/luke/22-63.htm">63</a>And the men who are holding Him began mocking Him, beating Him. <a href="/luke/22-64.htm">64</a>And having blindfolded Him,<a href="#fnd" title="BYZ and TR include ‘they were striking him on the face’">d</a> they were questioning Him, saying, “Prophesy, who is the one having struck You?” <a href="/luke/22-65.htm">65</a>And they were saying many other things to Him, blaspheming. Jesus Faces the Council<a href="/luke/22-66.htm">66</a>And when it became day, the elderhood of the people were gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him into their council, saying, <a href="/luke/22-67.htm">67</a>“If You are the Christ, tell us.” And He said to them, “If I should tell you, you would not believe, <a href="/luke/22-68.htm">68</a>and if I should ask you, you would not answer. <a href="/luke/22-69.htm">69</a>But from now on the Son of Man will be sitting at the right hand of the power of God.” <a href="/luke/22-70.htm">70</a>And they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” And He was saying to them, “You say that I am.” <a href="/luke/22-71.htm">71</a>And they said, “What need do we have of any more witness?
