Follow him into the house into which he enters, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>and you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And he will show you a large furnished upper room. Prepare <i>it</i> there.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And having gone, they found <i>it</i> as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover. </p><p class="hdg">The Last Supper<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 26:26-30; Mark 14:22-26; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And when the hour was come, He reclined, and the apostles with Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And He said to them, <span class="red">“With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>For I say to you that never again will I eat thereof, until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And having received <i>the</i> cup, having given thanks, He said, <span class="red">“Take this and divide <i>it</i> among yourselves. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>For I say to you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now until the kingdom of God shall come.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And having taken <i>the</i> bread, having given thanks, He broke <i>it</i> and gave to them, saying, <span class="red">“This is My body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me,”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>and the cup likewise, after having supped, saying, <span class="red">“This cup <i>is</i> the new covenant in My blood, which is being poured out for you.</span><span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="Some manuscripts end verse 19 after ‘This is My body’ and do not include verse 20">a</a></span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But, behold, the hand of him betraying Me <i>is</i> with Me on the table. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For indeed the Son of Man goes according to that having been determined. But woe to that man by whom He is betrayed.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And they began to question among themselves who then of them it might be who is about to do this. </p><p class="hdg">Who is the Greatest?</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And there was also a dispute among them which of them is thought to be <i>the</i> greatest. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And He said to them, <span class="red">“The kings of the Gentiles rule over them, and those exercising authority over them are called benefactors. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But you <i>shall</i> not <i>be</i> thus. Instead, the greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and the <i>one</i> leading, as the <i>one</i> serving. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>For who <i>is</i> greater, the <i>one</i> reclining or the <i>one</i> serving? <i>Is</i> not the <i>one</i> reclining? But I am in your midst as the <i>One</i> serving.</span> </p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Now you are those having remained with Me in My trials. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And I appoint to you a kingdom, as My Father appointed to Me, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>so that you may eat and may drink at My table in My kingdom, and may sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 26:31-35; Mark 14:27-31; John 13:36-38)</span></p><p class="red"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have all of you to sift like wheat. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>But I begged for you, that your faith may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And He said, <span class="red">“I tell you Peter, <i>the</i> rooster will not crow today until you will deny three times knowing Me.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And He said to them, <span class="red">“When I sent you without purse and bag and sandals, did you lack anything?”</span></p><p class="reg"> And they said, “Nothing.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>And He said to them, <span class="red">“But now, the <i>one</i> having a purse, let him take <i>it</i>, and likewise a bag; and the <i>one</i> having no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy <i>one</i>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>For I say to you that this which has been written, it behooves to be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was reckoned with <i>the</i> lawless.’<span class="fn"><a href="#fnb" title="Isaiah 53:12">b</a></span> For also the things concerning Me have an end.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>And they said, “Lord, behold, here <i>are</i> two swords.”</p><p class="reg"> And He said to them, <span class="red">“It is enough.”</span> </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 26:36-46; Mark 14:32-42)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And having gone forth, He went according to the custom to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And having come to the place, He said to them, <span class="red">“Pray not to enter into temptation.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and having fallen on the knees, He was praying, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>saying, <span class="red">“Father, if You are willing, take away this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>And an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>And having been in agony, He was praying more earnestly. And His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.<span class="fn"><a href="#fnc" title="Some manuscripts do not include verses 43 and 44">c</a></span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>And having risen up from the prayer, having come to the disciples, He found them sleeping from the grief. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>And He said to them, <span class="red">“Why are you sleeping? Having risen up, pray that you might not enter into temptation.”</span> </p><p class="hdg">The Betrayal of Jesus<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 26:47-56; Mark 14:43-52; John 18:1-14)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd, and he who is called Judas, one of the Twelve, was going before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>And Jesus said to him, <span class="red">“Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>And those around Him, having seen what would be, said, “Lord, should we strike with <i>the</i> sword?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>And a certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span>And Jesus answering said, <span class="red">“Allow you thus far!”</span> And having touched the ear, He healed him. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>And Jesus said to those having come out against Him, <i>the</i> chief priests, and captains of the temple and elders, <span class="red">“Have you come out with swords and clubs as against a robber? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-53.htm"><b>53</b></a></span>Every day of Me being with you in the temple, you did not stretch out the hands against Me; but this is your hour, and the power of the darkness.”</span> </p><p class="hdg">Peter Denies Jesus<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; John 18:15-18)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-54.htm"><b>54</b></a></span>And having seized Him, they led <i>Him</i> away, and led <i>Him</i> into the house of the high priest. And Peter was following afar off. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-55.htm"><b>55</b></a></span>And they having kindled a fire in <i>the</i> midst of the courtyard, and having sat down together, Peter was sitting among them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-56.htm"><b>56</b></a></span>And a certain servant girl, having seen him sitting by the light, and having looked intently on him, said, “This one also was with Him.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-57.htm"><b>57</b></a></span>But he denied <i>it</i>, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-58.htm"><b>58</b></a></span>And after a little, having seen him, another was saying, “You also are of them.”</p><p class="reg"> But Peter was saying, “Man, I am not.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-59.htm"><b>59</b></a></span>And about one hour having elapsed, a certain other strongly affirmed <i>it</i>, saying, “Of a truth, this one also was with Him; for he is also a Galilean.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-60.htm"><b>60</b></a></span>But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you say.” And immediately while he was speaking, the rooster crowed. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-61.htm"><b>61</b></a></span>And having turned, the Lord looked at Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, <span class="red">“Before <i>the</i> rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-62.htm"><b>62</b></a></span>And having gone forth outside, he wept bitterly. </p><p class="hdg">The Soldiers Mock Jesus<br /><span class="cross">(Isaiah 50:4-11; Matthew 27:27-31; Mark 15:16-20; John 19:1-15)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-63.htm"><b>63</b></a></span>And the men who are holding Him began mocking Him, beating <i>Him</i>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-64.htm"><b>64</b></a></span>And having blindfolded Him,<span class="fn"><a href="#fnd" title="BYZ and TR include ‘they were striking him on the face’">d</a></span> they were questioning <i>Him</i>, saying, “Prophesy, who is the <i>one</i> having struck You?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-65.htm"><b>65</b></a></span>And they were saying many other things to Him, blaspheming. </p><p class="hdg">Jesus Faces the Council</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-66.htm"><b>66</b></a></span>And when it became day, the elderhood of the people were gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him into their council, saying, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-67.htm"><b>67</b></a></span>“If You are the Christ, tell us.”</p><p class="reg"> And He said to them, <span class="red">“If I should tell you, you would not believe, <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-68.htm"><b>68</b></a></span>and if I should ask <i>you</i>, you would not answer. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-69.htm"><b>69</b></a></span>But from now on the Son of Man will be sitting at <i>the</i> right hand of the power of God.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-70.htm"><b>70</b></a></span>And they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?”</p><p class="reg"> And He was saying to them, <span class="red">“You say that I am.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/22-71.htm"><b>71</b></a></span>And they said, “What need do we have of any more witness?
