A correct estimation of the threshold capillary pressure is not only essential for CO₂ storage modeling but also important to assess the overall economical and environmental impact of the design process. A standard step by step approach has to be used to measure the threshold capillary pressure of shale and non-wetting fluids at different temperatures. The objective of this work is to assess the impact of high temperature on the threshold capillary pressure of four different shales as they interacted with four different oil based muds, air, CO₂, N₂, and methane. This study shows that the threshold capillary pressure of shale and non-wetting fluid is highly impacted by temperature. An empirical correlation for the dependence of threshold capillary pressure on temperature when different shales interacted with oil based muds and gasses has been developed. This correlation shows that the threshold capillary pressure decreases exponentially as the temperature increases. In this correlation, an experimental constant (α) appears, and this constant may depend on the properties of shale and non-wetting fluid. The value for α factor was found to be higher for gasses than for oil based muds. This is consistent with our intuition since the interfacial tension for gasses is higher than those for oil based muds. The author believes that measured threshold capillary pressure at ambient temperature is misleading and could yield higher values than those encountered at in situ conditions. Therefore one must correct for the impact of temperature when measuring threshold capillary pressure of shale at ambient temperature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capillary%20pressure" title="capillary pressure">capillary pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shale" title=" shale"> shale</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature" title=" temperature"> temperature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thresshold" title=" thresshold"> thresshold</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65146/the-impact-of-temperature-on-the-threshold-capillary-pressure-of-fine-grained-shales" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65146.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">371</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9368</span> Effectiveness of Dry Needling on Pain and Pressure Point Threshold in Cervicogenic Headache</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ramesh%20Chandra%20Patra">Ramesh Chandra Patra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ajay%20P.%20Gautam"> Ajay P. Headache that originated from upper cervical spine and refereed to the one side of the head and/or face is known as cervicogenic headache (CH) which constitute15% to 20% among all the headaches. In our best knowledge manual therapy is often advocated for managing CH, but very little focus given on muscle system although it is a musculoskeletal disorder. In this study, 75 patients with CH were selected and divided into two groups Group A: Manual therapy and Group B: dry needling along with manual therapy group. Assessment was done using NPRS (0-10) for pain, wide spread pressure pain threshold using an algometer at the beginning and end of the study. There is a consistent reduction in pain and tenderness in both the group but significant improvement was shown in combined group. Outcome of the study has explored that the effectiveness of dry needling along with Mulligan is more beneficial in patients with cervicogenic headaches. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cervicogenic%20headaches" title="cervicogenic headaches">cervicogenic headaches</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dry%20needling" title=" dry needling"> dry needling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NPRS" title=" NPRS"> NPRS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pressure%20point%20threshold" title=" pressure point threshold"> pressure point threshold</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77128/effectiveness-of-dry-needling-on-pain-and-pressure-point-threshold-in-cervicogenic-headache" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77128.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">229</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9367</span> Investigation of the Effects of Dry Needling With Stretching Upper Trapezius Muscle on Clinical Outcomes in Participants With Active Myofascial Trigger Point.</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marzieh%20Yassin">Marzieh Yassin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fereshteh%20Navaee"> Fereshteh Navaee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Javad%20Sarrafzadeh"> Javad Sarrafzadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reza%20Salehi"> Reza Salehi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Myofascial trigger point (MTrP) is one of the most common sources of musculoskeletal pain. Approximately 30-85% of the patients with musculoskeletal pains would experience MTrP in their life. The prevalence of MTrP has reported in the patients seen in a general orthopedic clinic, general medical clinic and specialty pain management centers, 21%, 30% and 93% respectively. Nowadays, dry needling is suggested as a standard treatment for MTrPs. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effectiveness of dry needling with stretching upper trapezius muscle on pain and pain pressure threshold in participants with active myofascial trigger point. Methods: Thirty participants with an active myofascial trigger point of the upper trapezius muscle were randomly divided into two groups: dry needling with passive stretch (n=15) and passive stretch alone (n=15). They received 5 sessions of the treatments for three weeks. The outcomes were pain intensity and pain pressure threshold that were assessed with visual analogue scale and algometer respectively. Results: Significant improvement in pain and pain pressure threshold was observed in both groups (P=0.0001) after the treatment. Also, the results showed a significant difference in measurements between two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: Dry needling with passive stretch can be more effective on pain and pain pressure threshold than passive stretching alone in short term in participants with active myofascial trigger points. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dry%20needling" title="dry needling">dry needling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=myofascial%20pain%20syndrome" title=" myofascial pain syndrome"> myofascial pain syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=myofascial%20trigger%20point" title=" myofascial trigger point"> myofascial trigger point</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stretching" title=" stretching"> stretching</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174129/investigation-of-the-effects-of-dry-needling-with-stretching-upper-trapezius-muscle-on-clinical-outcomes-in-participants-with-active-myofascial-trigger-point" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174129.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">67</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9366</span> Criterion-Referenced Test Reliability through Threshold Loss Agreement: Fuzzy Logic Analysis Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Ali%20Alavidoost">Mohammad Ali Alavidoost</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hossein%20Bozorgian"> Hossein Bozorgian</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Criterion-referenced tests (CRTs) are designed to measure student performance against a fixed set of predetermined criteria or learning standards. The reliability of such tests cannot be based on internal reliability. Threshold loss agreement is one way to calculate the reliability of CRTs. However, the selection of master and non-master in such agreement is determined by the threshold point. The problem is if the threshold point witnesses a minute change, the selection of master and non-master may have a drastic change, leading to the change in reliability results. Therefore, in this study, the Fuzzy logic approach is employed as a remedial procedure for data analysis to obviate the threshold point problem. Forty-one Iranian students were selected; the participants were all between 20 and 30 years old. A quantitative approach was used to address the research questions. In doing so, a quasi-experimental design was utilized since the selection of the participants was not randomized. Based on the Fuzzy logic approach, the threshold point would be more stable during the analysis, resulting in rather constant reliability results and more precise assessment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=criterion-referenced%20tests" title="criterion-referenced tests">criterion-referenced tests</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20loss%20agreement" title=" threshold loss agreement"> threshold loss agreement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20point" title=" threshold point"> threshold point</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20logic%20approach" title=" fuzzy logic approach"> fuzzy logic approach</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135929/criterion-referenced-test-reliability-through-threshold-loss-agreement-fuzzy-logic-analysis-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/135929.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">369</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9365</span> A Method for Calculating Dew Point Temperature in the Humidity Test</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wu%20Sa">Wu Sa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zhang%20Qian"> Zhang Qian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Li%20Qi"> Li Qi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wang%20Ye"> Wang Ye</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Currently in humidity tests having not put the Dew point temperature as a control parameter, this paper selects wet and dry bulb thermometer to measure the vapor pressure, and introduces several the saturation vapor pressure formulas easily calculated on the controller. In the absence of PVT reports on valid reservoir fluid samples, engineers rely on PVT correlations to generate the required PVT data. The accuracy of PVT correlations varies, and no correlation group has been found to provide accurate results for all oil types. The effect of inaccurate PVT data can be significant in engineering calculations and is well documented in the literature. Bubble point pressure can sometimes be obtained from external sources. In this paper, we show how to utilize the known bubble point pressure to improve the accuracy of calculated PVT properties from correlations. We conducted a systematic study using around 250 reservoir oil samples to quantify the effect of pre-knowledge of bubble point pressure. The samples spanned a wide range of oils, from very volatile oils to black oils and all the way to low-GOR oils. A method for shifting both undersaturated and saturated sections of the PVT properties curves to the correct bubble point is explained. Seven PVT correlation families were used in this study. All PVT properties (e.g., solution gas-oil ratio, formation volume factor, density, viscosity, and compressibility) were calculated using the correct bubble point pressure and the correlation estimated bubble point pressure. Comparisons between the calculated PVT properties and actual laboratory-measured values were made. It was found that pre-knowledge of bubble point pressure and using the shifting technique presented in the paper improved the correlation-estimated values by 10% to more than 30%. The most improvement was seen in the solution gas-oil ratio and formation volume factor. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PVT%20data" title="PVT data">PVT data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PVT%20properties" title=" PVT properties"> PVT properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PVT%20correlations" title=" PVT correlations"> PVT correlations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bubble%20point%20pressure" title=" bubble point pressure"> bubble point pressure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174002/effect-of-knowledge-of-bubble-point-pressure-on-estimating-pvt-properties-from-correlations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/174002.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">63</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9361</span> Extremal Laplacian Energy of Threshold Graphs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyed%20Ahmad%20Mojallal">Seyed Ahmad Mojallal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Let G be a connected threshold graph of order n with m edges and trace T. The responding time in low permeability reservoir is usually calculated by the method of stable state successive substitution neglecting the effect of medium deformation. Numerous studies show that the media deformation has an important impact on the development for low permeability reservoirs and can not be neglected. On the base of streamline tube model, we developed a method to interpret responding time with medium deformation factor. The results show that: the media deformation factor, threshold pressure gradient and well spacing have a significant effect on the flood response time. The greater the media deformation factor, threshold pressure gradient or well spacing is, the lower the flood response time is. The responding time of different streamlines varies. As the angle with the main streamline increases, the water flooding response time delays as a "parabola" shape. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low%20permeability" title="low permeability">low permeability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flood-response%20time" title=" flood-response time"> flood-response time</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20pressure%20gradient" title=" threshold pressure gradient"> threshold pressure gradient</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medium%20deformation" title=" medium deformation"> medium deformation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11166/study-of-the-responding-time-for-low-permeability-reservoirs" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11166.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">499</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9359</span> Reliability and Validity of Determining Ventilatory Threshold and Respiratory Compensation Point by Near-Infrared Spectroscopy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tso-Yen%20Mao">Tso-Yen Mao</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=De-Yen%20Liu"> De-Yen Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chun-Feng%20Huang"> Chun-Feng Huang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: This research intends to investigate the reliability and validity of ventilatory threshold (VT) and respiratory compensation point (RCP) determined by skeletal muscle hemodynamic status. Methods: One hundred healthy male (age: 22±3 yrs; height: 173.1±6.0 cm; weight: 67.1±10.5 kg) performed graded cycling exercise test which ventilatory and skeletal muscle hemodynamic data were collected simultaneously. VT and RCP were determined by combined V-slope (VE vs. VCO2) and ventilatory efficiency (VE/VO2 vs. VE/VCO2) methods. Pearson correlation, paired t-test, and Bland-Altman plots were used to analyze reliability, validity, and similarities. Statistical significance was set at α =. 05. Results: There are high test-retest correlations of VT and RCP in ventilatory or near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) methods (VT vs. VTNIRS: 0.95 vs. 0.94; RCP vs. RCPNIRS: 0.93 vs. 0.93, p<. 05). There are high coefficient of determination at the first timing point of O2Hb decreased (R2 = 0.88, p<. 05) with VT, and high coefficient of determination at the second timing point of O2Hb declined (R2 = 0.89, p< .05) with RCP. VO2 of VT and RCP are not significantly different between ventilatory and NIRS methods (p>. 05). Conclusion: Using NIRS method to determine VT and RCP is reliable and valid in male individuals during graded exercise. Non-invasive skeletal muscle hemodynamics monitor also can be used for controlling training intensity in the future. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anaerobic%20threshold" title="anaerobic threshold">anaerobic threshold</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exercise%20intensity" title=" exercise intensity"> exercise intensity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hemodynamic" title=" hemodynamic"> hemodynamic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NIRS" title=" NIRS"> NIRS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74719/reliability-and-validity-of-determining-ventilatory-threshold-and-respiratory-compensation-point-by-near-infrared-spectroscopy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74719.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">313</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9358</span> Adaptive Threshold Adjustment of Clear Channel Assessment in LAA Down Link</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu%20Li">Yu Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dongyao%20Wang"> Dongyao Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaobao%20Sun"> Xiaobao Sun</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wei%20Ni"> Wei Ni</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In long-term evolution (LTE), the carriers around 5GHz are planned to be utilized without licenses to further enlarge system capacity. This feature is termed licensed assisted access (LAA). The channel sensing (clean channel assessment, CCA) is required before any transmission on these unlicensed carriers, in order to make sure the harmonious co-existence of LAA with other radio access technology in the unlicensed band. Obviously, the CCA threshold is very critical, which decides whether the transmission right following CCA is delivered in time and without collisions. An improper CCA threshold may cause buffer overflow of some eNodeBs if the eNodeBs are heavily loaded with the traffic. Thus, to solve these problems, we propose an adaptive threshold adjustment method for CCA in the LAA downlink. Both the load and transmission opportunities are concerned. The trend of the LAA throughput as the threshold varies is obtained, which guides the threshold adjustment. The co-existing between LAA and Wi-Fi is particularly tested. The results from system-level simulation confirm the merits of our design, especially in heavy traffic cases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LTE" title="LTE">LTE</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LAA" title=" LAA"> LAA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CCA" title=" CCA"> CCA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20adjustment" title=" threshold adjustment"> threshold adjustment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130135/adaptive-threshold-adjustment-of-clear-channel-assessment-in-laa-down-link" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130135.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">140</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9357</span> A Critical Appraisal of CO₂ Entrance Pressure with Heat</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abrar%20Al-Mutairi">Abrar Al-Mutairi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Talal%20Al-Bazali"> Talal Al-Bazali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, changes in capillary entry pressure of shale, as it interacts with CO₂, under different temperatures (25 °C to 250 °C) have been investigated. The combined impact of temperature and petrophysical properties (water content, water activity, permeability and porosity) of shale was also addressed. Results showed that the capillary entry pressure of shale when it interacted with CO₂ was highly affected by temperature. In general, increasing the temperature decreased capillary entry pressure of shale. We believe that pore dilation, where pore throat size expands due to the application of heat, may have caused this decrease in capillary entry pressure of shale. However, in some cases we found that at higher temperature some shale samples showed that the temperature activated clay swelling may have caused an apparent decrease in pore throat radii of shale which translates into higher capillary entry pressure of shale. Also, our results showed that there is no distinct relationship between shale’s water content, water activity, permeability, and porosity on the capillary entry pressure of shale samples as it interacted with CO₂ at different temperatures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat" title="heat">heat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20pressure" title="threshold pressure">threshold pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CO%E2%82%82%20sequestration" title=" CO₂ sequestration"> CO₂ sequestration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shale" title=" shale"> shale</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148151/a-critical-appraisal-of-co2-entrance-pressure-with-heat" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148151.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">114</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9356</span> Effect of Inspiratory Muscle Training on Diaphragmatic Strength Following Coronary Revascularization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abeer%20Ahmed%20Abdelhamed"> Abeer Ahmed Abdelhamed</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) are the most common complications observed and managed after abdominal or cardiothoracic surgery. During pile installation in soil, a significant amount of excess pore pressure is generated, creating disturbance zones around the pile. The dissipation rate of excess pore pressure is an important factor influencing the pile setup. The paper aims to examine how alterations in parameters within disturbance zones affect the dissipation of excess pore pressure. An axisymmetric FE model is used to simulate pile installation in clay, subsequently consolidation using Plaxis 3D. The influence of disturbed zone on setup is verified, by comparing the parametric studies in uniform field and non-uniform field. Three types of consolidation are employed: consolidation in three directions, vertical consolidation, horizontal consolidation. The results of the parametric study show that the permeability coefficient decreases, soil stiffness decreases, and reference pressure increases in the disturbance zone, resulting in an increase in the dissipation time of excess pore pressure and exhibiting a noticeable threshold phenomenon, which has been commonly overlooked in previous literature. The research in this paper suggests that significant thresholds occur when the coefficient of permeability decreases to half of the original site's value for three-directional and horizontal consolidation within the disturbed zone. Similarly, the threshold for vertical consolidation is observed when the coefficient of permeability decreases to one-fourth of the original site's value. Especially in pile setup research, consolidation is assumed to be horizontal; the study findings suggest that horizontal consolidation has experienced notable alterations as a result of the presence of disturbed zones. Furthermore, the selection of pile installation methods proves to be critical. A nonlinearity excess pore pressure formula is proposed based on cavity expansion theory, which includes the distribution of soil profile modulus with depth. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pile%20setup" title="pile setup">pile setup</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20value%20effect" title=" threshold value effect"> threshold value effect</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=installation%20effects" title=" installation effects"> installation effects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uniform%20field" title=" uniform field"> uniform field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-uniform%20field" title=" non-uniform field"> non-uniform field</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185943/numerical-study-pile-installation-disturbance-zone-effects-on-excess-pore-pressure-dissipation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185943.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">46</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9354</span> A Comparison of Design and Off-Design Performances of a Centrifugal Compressor</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zeynep%20Ayta%C3%A7">Zeynep Aytaç</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nuri%20Y%C3%BCcel"> Nuri Yücel</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Today, as the need for high efficiency and fuel-efficient engines have increased, centrifugal compressor designs are expected to be high-efficient and have high-pressure ratios than ever. The present study represents a design methodology of centrifugal compressor placed in a mini jet engine for the design and off-design points with the utilization of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and compares the performance characteristics at the mentioned two points. Although the compressor is expected to provide the required specifications at the design point, it is known that it is important for the design to deliver the required parameters at the off-design point also as it will not operate at the design point always. It was observed that the obtained mass flow rate, pressure ratio, and efficiency values are within the limits of the design specifications for the design and off-design points. The pressure die casting is basically defined into two types (1) Hot chamber Die Casting (2) Cold chamber Die Casting. Cold chamber die casting is used for casting alloys that require high pressure and have a high melting temperature, such as brass, aluminum, magnesium, copper based alloys and other high melting point nonferrous alloys. Hot chamber die casting is suitable for casting zinc, tin, lead, and low melting point alloys. In hot chamber die casting machine, the molten metal is an integral pan of the machine. It mainly consists of hot chamber and gooseneck type metal container made of cast iron. This machine is mainly used for low melting alloys and alloys of metals like zinc, lead etc. Metals and alloys having a high melting point and those which are having an affinity for iron cannot be cast by this machine, which could otherwise attack the shot sleeve and damage the machine. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hot%20chamber%20die%20casting" title="hot chamber die casting">hot chamber die casting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cold%20chamber%20die%20casting" title=" cold chamber die casting"> cold chamber die casting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metals%20and%20alloys" title=" metals and alloys"> metals and alloys</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=casting%20technology" title=" casting technology"> casting technology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25342/fundamental-research-dissension-between-hot-and-cold-chamber-high-pressure-die-casting" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25342.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">618</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9352</span> The Effect of Positional Release Technique versus Kinesio Tape on Iliocostalis lumborum in Back Myofascial Pain Syndrome</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shams%20Khaled%20Abdelrahman%20Abdallah%20Elbaz">Shams Khaled Abdelrahman Abdallah Elbaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alaa%20Aldeen%20Abd%20Al%20Hakeem%20Balbaa"> Alaa Aldeen Abd Al Hakeem Balbaa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of Positional Release Technique versus Kinesio Tape on pain level, pressure pain threshold level and functional disability in patients with back myofascial pain syndrome at iliocostalis lumborum. Backgrounds/significance: Myofascial Pain Syndrome is a common muscular pain syndrome that arises from trigger points which are hyperirritable, painful and tender points within a taut band of skeletal muscle. In more recent literature, about 75% of patients with musculoskeletal pain presenting to a community medical centres suffer from myofascial pain syndrome.Iliocostalis lumborum are most likely to develop active trigger points. Subjects: Thirty patients diagnosed as back myofascial pain syndrome with active trigger points in iliocostalis lumborum muscle bilaterally had participated in this study. Methods and materials: Patients were randomly distributed into two groups. The first group consisted of 15 patients (8 males and 7 females) with mean age 30.6 (±3.08) years, they received positional release technique which was applied 3 times per session, 3/week every other day for 2 weeks. The second group consisted of 15 patients(5 males, 10 females) with a mean age 30.4 (±3.35) years, they received kinesio tape which was applied and changed every 3 days with one day off for a total 3 times in 2 weeks. Both techniques were applied over trigger points of the iliocostalis lumborum bilaterally. Patients were evaluated pretreatment and posttreatment program for Pain intensity (Visual analogue scale), pressure pain threshold (digital pressure algometry), and functional disability (The Oswestry Disability Index). Analyses: Repeated measures MANOVA was used to detect differences within and between groups pre and post treatment. Then the univariate ANOVA test was conducted for the analysis of each dependant variable within and between groups. All statistical analyses were done using SPSS. with significance level set at p<0.05 throughout all analyses. Results: The results revealed that there was no significant difference between positional release technique and kinesio tape technique on pain level, pressure pain threshold and functional activities (p > 0.05). Both groups of patients showed significant improvement in all the measured variables (p < 0.05) evident by significant reduction of both pain intensity and functional disability as well as significant increase of pressure pain threshold Conclusions : Both positional release technique and kinesio taping technique are effective in reducing pain level, improving pressure pain threshold and improving function in treating patients who suffering from back myofascial pain syndrome at iliocostalis lumborum. As there was no statistically significant difference was proven between both of them. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=positional%20release%20technique" title="positional release technique">positional release technique</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=kinesio%20tape" title=" kinesio tape"> kinesio tape</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=myofascial%20pain%20syndrome" title=" myofascial pain syndrome"> myofascial pain syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iliocostalis%20lumborum" title=" Iliocostalis lumborum "> Iliocostalis lumborum </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45814/the-effect-of-positional-release-technique-versus-kinesio-tape-on-iliocostalis-lumborum-in-back-myofascial-pain-syndrome" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45814.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">231</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9351</span> Threshold Concepts in TESOL: A Thematic Analysis of Disciplinary Guiding Principles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neil%20Morgan">Neil Morgan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The notion of Threshold Concepts has offered a fertile new perspective on the transformative effects of mastery of particular concepts on student understanding of subject matter and their developing identities as inductees into disciplinary discourse communities. Only by successfully traversing key knowledge thresholds, it is claimed, can neophytes gain access to the more sophisticated understandings of subject matter possessed by mature members of a discipline. This paper uses thematic analysis of disciplinary guiding principles to identify nine candidate Threshold Concepts that appear to underpin effective TESOL practice. The relationship between these candidate TESOL Threshold Concepts, TESOL principles, and TESOL instructional techniques appears to be amenable to a schematic representation based on superordinate categories of TESOL practitioner concern and, as such, offers an alternative to the view of Threshold Concepts as a privileged subset of disciplinary core concepts. The paper concludes by exploring the potential of a Threshold Concepts framework to productively inform TESOL initial teacher education (ITE) and in-service education and training (INSET). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TESOL" title="TESOL">TESOL</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20concepts" title=" threshold concepts"> threshold concepts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TESOL%20principles" title=" TESOL principles"> TESOL principles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TESOL%20ITE%2FINSET" title=" TESOL ITE/INSET"> TESOL ITE/INSET</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=community%20of%20practice" title=" community of practice"> community of practice</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127795/threshold-concepts-in-tesol-a-thematic-analysis-of-disciplinary-guiding-principles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127795.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">140</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9350</span> Combined Localization, Beamforming, and Interference Threshold Estimation in Underlay Cognitive System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omar%20Nasr">Omar Nasr</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasser%20Naguib"> Yasser Naguib</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Hafez"> Mohamed Hafez </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper aims at providing an innovative solution for blind interference threshold estimation in an underlay cognitive network to be used in adaptive beamforming by secondary user Transmitter and Receiver. And there is a limit in investigating quantitatively and systematically the mechanism of correlation between economic development and GHG emissions considering inherent differences among manufacturing sub-sectors. Considering the sectorial characteristics, the manufacturing sub-sectors with various impacts of output on GHG emissions may be explained by different development modes in each manufacturing sub-sector, such as investment scale, technology level and the level of international competition. In order to assess the environmental impact associated with any specific level of economic development and explore the factors that affect GHG emissions in China’s manufacturing industry during the process of economic growth, using the threshold Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology (STIRPAT) model, this paper investigated the influence impacts of GHG emissions for China’s manufacturing sectors of different stages of economic development. A data set from 28 manufacturing sectors covering an 18-year period was used. Results demonstrate that output per capita and investment scale contribute to increasing GHG emissions while energy efficiency, R&D intensity and FDI mitigate GHG emissions. Results also verify the nonlinear effect of output per capita on emissions as: (1) the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis is supported when threshold point RMB 31.19 million is surpassed; (2) the driving strength of output per capita on GHG emissions becomes stronger as increasing investment scale; (3) the threshold exists for energy efficiency with the positive coefficient first and negative coefficient later; (4) the coefficient of output per capita on GHG emissions decreases as R&D intensity increases. (5) FDI shows a reduction in elasticity when the threshold is compassed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=China" title="China">China</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GHG%20emissions" title=" GHG emissions"> GHG emissions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=manufacturing%20industry" title=" manufacturing industry"> manufacturing industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20STIRPAT%20model" title=" threshold STIRPAT model"> threshold STIRPAT model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61271/characteristics-and-drivers-of-greenhouse-gas-ghg-emissions-from-chinas-manufacturing-industry-a-threshold-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61271.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">428</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9348</span> Thermo-Mechanical Approach to Evaluate Softening Behavior of Polystyrene: Validation and Modeling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salah%20Al-Enezi">Salah Al-Enezi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rashed%20Al-Zufairi"> Rashed Al-Zufairi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naseer%20Ahmad"> Naseer Ahmad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A Thermo-mechanical technique was developed to determine softening point temperature/glass transition temperature (Tg) of polystyrene exposed to high pressures. The design utilizes the ability of carbon dioxide to lower the glass transition temperature of polymers and acts as plasticizer. In this apparatus, the sorption of carbon dioxide to induce softening of polymers as a function of temperature/pressure is performed and the extent of softening is measured in three-point-flexural-bending mode. The polymer strip was placed in the cell in contact with the linear variable differential transformer (LVDT). CO2 was pumped into the cell from a supply cylinder to reach high pressure. The results clearly showed that full softening point of the samples, accompanied by a large deformation on the polymer strip. The deflection curves are initially relatively flat and then undergo a dramatic increase as the temperature is elevated. It was found that increasing the pressure of CO2 causes the temperature curves to shift from higher to lower by increment of about 45 K, over the pressure range of 0-120 bars. The obtained experimental Tg values were validated with the values reported in the literature. Finally, it is concluded that the defection model fits consistently to the generated experimental results, which attempts to describe in more detail how the central deflection of a thin polymer strip affected by the CO2 diffusions in the polymeric samples. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=softening" title="softening">softening</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high-pressure" title=" high-pressure"> high-pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polystyrene" title=" polystyrene"> polystyrene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CO%E2%82%82%20diffusions" title=" CO₂ diffusions"> CO₂ diffusions</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109030/thermo-mechanical-approach-to-evaluate-softening-behavior-of-polystyrene-validation-and-modeling" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109030.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">127</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9347</span> Threshold (K, P) Quantum Distillation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shashank%20Gupta">Shashank Gupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carlos%20Cid"> Carlos Cid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=William%20John%20Munro"> William John Munro</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Quantum distillation is the task of concentrating quantum correlations present in N imperfect copies to M perfect copies (M < N) using free operations by involving all P the parties sharing the quantum correlation. The Field Operation And Manipulation (OpenFOAM) platform is used as the computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool. Firstly, the influences of grid resolution on the results of k-ε, k-ω, and LES turbulence models are investigated and compared with those of experimental measurements. A numerical pressure under-shoot is appeared near the end of blade pressure surface which is sensitive to grid resolution and flow turbulence modeling. The LES model is able to resolve separation on a coarse and fine grid resolutions. Secondly, the off-design flow condition is modeled by negative and positive inflow incidence angles. The numerical experiments show that a separation bubble generated on blade pressure side is predicted by LES. The total pressure drop is also been calculated at incidence angle between -20◦ and +8◦. The minimum total pressure drop is obtained by k-ω and LES at the design point. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low%20pressure%20turbine" title="low pressure turbine">low pressure turbine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=off-design%20performance" title=" off-design performance"> off-design performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=openFOAM" title=" openFOAM"> openFOAM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=turbulence%20modeling" title=" turbulence modeling"> turbulence modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20separation" title=" flow separation"> flow separation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26688/numerical-study-of-off-design-performance-of-a-highly-loaded-low-pressure-turbine-cascade" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26688.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">362</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9343</span> Modeling of Steady State Creep in Thick-Walled Cylinders under Internal Pressure</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tejeet%20Singh">Tejeet Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ishavneet%20Singh"> Ishavneet Singh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present study focused on carrying out the creep analysis in an isotropic thick-walled composite cylindrical pressure vessel composed of aluminum matrix reinforced with silicon-carbide in particulate form. The parameter can be obtained by performing either cyclic triaxial test, shaking table test, cyclic simple shear or resonant column. In a cyclic triaxial test, other researchers install measuring devices in close proximity of the soil to measure the parameter. In this study, an attempt was made to estimate the cyclic threshold shear strain parameter using full-field measurement technique. The technique uses a camera to monitor and measure the movement of the soil. For this study, the technique was incorporated in a strain-controlled consolidated undrained cyclic triaxial test. Calibration of the camera was first performed to ensure that the camera can properly measure the deformation under cyclic loading. Its capacity to measure deformation was also investigated using a cylindrical rubber dummy. Two-dimensional image processing was implemented. Lucas and Kanade optical flow algorithm was applied to track the movement of the soil particles. Results from the full-field measurement technique were compared with the results from the linear variable displacement transducer. A range of values was determined from the estimation. This was due to the nonhomogeneous deformation of the soil observed during the cyclic loading. The minimum values were in the order of 10-2% in some areas of the specimen. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyclic%20loading" title="cyclic loading">cyclic loading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyclic%20threshold%20shear%20strain" title=" cyclic threshold shear strain"> cyclic threshold shear strain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=full-field%20measurement" title=" full-field measurement"> full-field measurement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optical%20flow" title=" optical flow"> optical flow</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76850/full-field-estimation-of-cyclic-threshold-shear-strain" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76850.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">234</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9341</span> Multi-Objective Optimal Threshold Selection for Similarity Functions in Siamese Networks for Semantic Textual Similarity Tasks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kriuk%20Boris">Kriuk Boris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kriuk%20Fedor"> Kriuk Fedor</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a comparative study of fundamental similarity functions for Siamese networks in semantic textual similarity (STS) tasks. We evaluate various similarity functions using the STS Benchmark dataset, analyzing their performance and stability. Additionally, we introduce a multi-objective approach for optimal threshold selection. Our findings provide insights into the effectiveness of different similarity functions and offer a straightforward method for threshold selection optimization, contributing to the advancement of Siamese network architectures in STS applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=siamese%20networks" title="siamese networks">siamese networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semantic%20textual%20similarity" title=" semantic textual similarity"> semantic textual similarity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=similarity%20functions" title=" similarity functions"> similarity functions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=STS%20benchmark%20dataset" title=" STS benchmark dataset"> STS benchmark dataset</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20selection" title=" threshold selection"> threshold selection</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/187407/multi-objective-optimal-threshold-selection-for-similarity-functions-in-siamese-networks-for-semantic-textual-similarity-tasks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/187407.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">37</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9340</span> Investigation of Factors Affecting the Total Ionizing Dose Threshold of Electrically Erasable Read Only Memories for Use in Dose Rate Measurement</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liqian%20Li">Liqian Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu%20Liu"> Yu Liu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karen%20Colins"> Karen Colins</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The dose rate present in a seriously contaminated area can be indirectly determined by monitoring radiation damage to inexpensive commercial electronics, instead of deploying expensive radiation hardened sensors. EEPROMs (Electrically Erasable Read Only Memories) are a good candidate for this purpose because they are inexpensive and are sensitive to radiation exposure. When the total ionizing dose threshold is reached, an EEPROM chip will show signs of damage that can be monitored and transmitted by less susceptible electronics. The dose rate can then be determined from the known threshold dose and the exposure time, assuming the radiation field remains constant with time. Therefore, the threshold dose needs to be well understood before this method can be used. There are many factors affecting the threshold dose, such as the gamma ray energy spectrum, the operating voltage, etc. The purpose of this study was to experimentally determine how the threshold dose depends on dose rate, temperature, voltage, and duty factor. It was found that the duty factor has the strongest effect on the total ionizing dose threshold, while the effect of the other three factors that were investigated is less significant. The effect of temperature was found to be opposite to that expected to result from annealing and is yet to be understood. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
