Retrocomputing includes many activities that can be seen as constituting 'preservation.' At the same time, it is often transformative, producing assemblages that 'remix' fragments from the past with newer elements or joining together historic components that were never combined before. While such 'remix' may seem to undermine preservation, it allows for fragments of computing history to be reintegrated into a living, ongoing practice, contributing to preservation in a broader sense. The seemingly unorganized nature of retrocomputing assemblages also provides space for alternative 'situated knowledges' and histories of computing, which can sometimes be quite sophisticated. Recognizing such alternative epistemologies paves the way for alternative approaches to preservation.</q></cite><span title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&rft_val_fmt=info%3Aofi%2Ffmt%3Akev%3Amtx%3Ajournal&rft.genre=article&rft.jtitle=IConference+2013+Proceedings&rft.atitle=Retrocomputing+as+Preservation+and+Remix&rft.pages=422-432&rft.date=2013&rft_id=info%3Ahdl%2F2142%2F38392&rft_id=info%3Adoi%2F10.9776%2F13230&rft.au=Yuri+Takhteyev&rft.au=Quinn+DuPont&rft_id=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ideals.illinois.edu%2Fbitstream%2Fhandle%2F2142%2F38392%2F230.pdf%3Fsequence%3D4&rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Fen.wikipedia.org%3ARetrogaming" class="Z3988"></span><span class="cs1-maint citation-comment"><code class="cs1-code">{{<a href="/wiki/Template:Cite_journal" title="Template:Cite journal">cite journal</a>}}</code>: CS1 maint: DOI inactive as of November 2024 (<a href="/wiki/Category:CS1_maint:_DOI_inactive_as_of_November_2024" title="Category:CS1 maint: DOI inactive as of November 2024">link</a>)</span></span> </li> <li id="cite_note-4"><span class="mw-cite-backlink"><b><a href="#cite_ref-4">^</a></b></span> <span class="reference-text"><link rel="mw-deduplicated-inline-style" href="mw-data:TemplateStyles:r1238218222"><cite id="CITEREFTruitt" class="citation news cs1">Truitt, Brian. <a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2014/09/02/angry-video-game-nerd-the-movie-exclusive-clip/14986761/">"<span class="cs1-kern-left"></span>'Angry Video Game Nerd' tackles Atari cartridge legend"</a>. <i>USA TODAY</i><span class="reference-accessdate">.
