for you have brought<MH3318> us out<MH3318> into this<MH2088> wilderness<MH4057b> to kill<MH4191> this<MH2088> entire<MH3605> assembly<MH6951> with hunger<MH7458>!” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Behold<MH2009>, I will rain<MH4305> bread<MH3899> from heaven<MH8064> for you; and the people<MH5971a> shall go<MH3318> out<MH3318> and gather<MH3950> a day’s<MH3117> portion<MH1697> every day<MH3117>, so<MH4616> that<MH4616> I may test<MH5254> them, whether or<MH518> not they will walk<MH1980> in My <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>instruction<MH8451>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>On the sixth<MH8345> day<MH3117>, when they prepare<MH3559> what<MH834> they bring<MH935> in<MH935>, it will be twice<MH4932> as much<MH834> as they gather<MH3950> daily<MH3117>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> said<MH559> to all<MH3605> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, “At evening<MH6153> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>you will know<MH3045> that the LORD<MH3068> has brought<MH3318> you out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>and in the morning<MH1242> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>you will see<MH7200> the glory<MH3519b> of the LORD<MH3068>, for He hears<MH8085> your grumblings<MH8519b> against<MH5921> the LORD<MH3068>; and what<MH4100> are we, that you grumble<MH3885b> against<MH5921> us?” <p class="hdg">The LORD Provides Meat</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> said<MH559>, “<i>This will happen</i> when the LORD<MH3068> gives<MH5414> you meat<MH1320> to eat<MH398> in the evening<MH6153>, and bread<MH3899> to the<MH7646> full<MH7646> in the morning<MH1242>; for the LORD<MH3068> hears<MH8085> your grumblings<MH8519b> which<MH834> you grumble<MH3885b> against<MH5921> Him. And what<MH4100> are we? Your grumblings<MH8519b> are not against<MH5921> us but against<MH5921> the LORD<MH3068>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to Aaron<MH175>, “Say<MH559> to all<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, ‘Come<MH7126> forward<MH7126> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>, for He has heard<MH8085> your grumblings<MH8519b>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And it came<MH1961> about<MH1961>, as Aaron<MH175> spoke<MH1696> to the entire<MH3605> congregation<MH5712> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, that they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>looked<MH6437> toward<MH413> the wilderness<MH4057b>, and behold<MH2009>, the glory<MH3519b> of the LORD<MH3068> appeared<MH7200> in the cloud<MH6051>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“I have heard<MH8085> the grumblings<MH8519b> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>; speak<MH1696> to them, saying<MH559>, ‘<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>At twilight<MH6153> you shall eat<MH398> meat<MH1320>, and in the morning<MH1242> you shall be filled<MH7646> with bread<MH3899>; and you shall know<MH3045> that I am the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>.’” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>So it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> at evening<MH6153> that the quails<MH7958> came<MH5927> up<MH5927> and covered<MH3680> the camp<MH4264>, and in the morning<MH1242> there was a layer<MH7902> of dew<MH2919> around<MH5439> the camp<MH4264>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>When the layer<MH7902> of dew<MH2919> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>evaporated<MH5927>, behold<MH2009>, on the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>surface<MH6440> of the wilderness<MH4057b> there was a fine<MH1851> flake-like<MH2636> thing<MH2636>, fine<MH1851> as the frost<MH3713b> on the ground<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>When the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> saw<MH7200> <i>it,</i> they said<MH559> to one<MH376> another<MH251>, “<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>What<MH4478b> is it?” For they did not know<MH3045> what<MH4100> it was. And Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to them, “It is the bread<MH3899> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> has given<MH5414> you to eat<MH402>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>This<MH2088> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>what<MH1697, 834> the LORD<MH3068> has commanded<MH6680>: ‘Everyone<MH376> gather<MH3950> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>as much<MH6310> as he will eat<MH398>; you shall take<MH3947> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>an omer<MH6016b> apiece<MH1538> according to the number<MH4557> of people<MH5315> each<MH376> of you has in his tent<MH168>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>The sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> did<MH6213a> so<MH3651>, and <i>some</i> gathered<MH3950> much<MH7235a> and <i>some</i> little<MH4591>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>When they measured<MH4058> it by the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>omer<MH6016b>, the one who had gathered<MH7235a> much<MH7235a> did not have<MH5736> too<MH5736> much<MH5736>, and the one who had gathered<MH4591> little<MH4591> did not have<MH2637> too<MH2637> little<MH2637>; everyone<MH376> gathered<MH3950> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>as much<MH6310> as he would eat<MH398>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to them, “No<MH408> one<MH376> is to leave<MH3498> any<MH4480> of it until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>But they did not listen<MH8085> to Moses<MH4872>, and some<MH376> left<MH3498> part of it until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>, and it bred<MH7426b> worms<MH8438> and stank<MH887>; and Moses<MH4872> was<MH7107> angry<MH7107> with them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>They gathered<MH3950> it morning<MH1242> by morning<MH1242>, everyone<MH376> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>as much<MH6310> as he would eat<MH398>; but when the sun<MH8121> became<MH2552> hot<MH2552>, it would melt<MH4549>. <p class="hdg">The Sabbath</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Now on the sixth<MH8345> day<MH3117> they gathered<MH3950> twice<MH4932> as<MH4932> much<MH4932> bread<MH3899>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>two<MH8147> omers<MH6016b> for each<MH259> one<MH259>. When all<MH3605> the leaders<MH5387a> of the congregation<MH5712> came<MH935> and told<MH5046> Moses<MH4872>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>then he said<MH559> to them, “This<MH1931> is what<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>meant<MH1696>: Tomorrow<MH4279> is a Sabbath<MH7677> observance<MH7677>, a holy<MH6944> Sabbath<MH7676> to the LORD<MH3068>. Bake<MH644> what<MH834> you will bake<MH644> and boil<MH1310> what<MH834> you will boil<MH1310>, and all<MH3605> that is left<MH5736> over<MH5736> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>put<MH5117> aside<MH5117> to be kept<MH4931> until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So they put<MH5117> it aside<MH5117> until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>, as Moses<MH4872> had ordered<MH6680>, and it did not stink<MH887> nor<MH3808> was there a maggot<MH7415> in it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> said<MH559>, “Eat<MH398> it today<MH3117>, for today<MH3117> is a Sabbath<MH7676> to the LORD<MH3068>; today<MH3117> you will not find<MH4672> it in the field<MH7704>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Six<MH8337a> days<MH3117> you shall gather<MH3950> it, but on the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117>, <i>the</i> Sabbath<MH7676>, there will be <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>none<MH3808>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Yet it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> on the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117> that some<MH4480> of the people<MH5971a> went<MH3318> out<MH3318> to gather<MH3950>, but they found<MH4672> none<MH3808>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “How<MH575> long<MH5704> do you refuse<MH3985> to keep<MH8104> My commandments<MH4687> and My <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>instructions<MH8451>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>See<MH7200>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>the LORD<MH3068> has given<MH5414> you the Sabbath<MH7676>; for that<MH3651> reason<MH3651> He gives<MH5414> you bread<MH3899> for two days<MH3117> on the sixth<MH8345> day<MH3117>. Remain<MH3427>, everyone<MH376>, in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>; no<MH408> one<MH376> is to leave<MH3318, 4480> his place<MH4725> on the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>So the people<MH5971a> rested<MH7673a> on the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> named<MH7121, 8034> <i>the bread</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>manna<MH4478a>, and it was like coriander<MH1407> seed<MH2233>, white<MH3836>, and its taste<MH2940> was like wafers<MH6838> with honey<MH1706>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Then Moses<MH4872> said<MH559>, “This<MH2088> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>what<MH1697, 834> the LORD<MH3068> has commanded<MH6680>: ‘A <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>full<MH4393> omer<MH6016b> of it is to be kept<MH4931> safe<MH4931> throughout your generations<MH1755>, so<MH4616> that<MH4616> they may see<MH7200> the bread<MH3899> that I fed<MH398> you in the wilderness<MH4057b>, when I brought<MH3318> you out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to Aaron<MH175>, “Take<MH3947> a jar<MH6803> and put<MH5414> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>full<MH4393> omer<MH6016b> of manna<MH4478a> in it, and place<MH5117> it before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> to be kept<MH4931> safe<MH4931> throughout your generations<MH1755>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>As the LORD<MH3068> commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872>, so Aaron<MH175> placed<MH5117> it before<MH6440> the Testimony<MH5715>, to be kept<MH4931>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/16-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> ate<MH398> the manna<MH4478a> for forty<MH705> years<MH8141>, until<MH5704> they came<MH935> to an inhabited<MH3427> land<MH776>;
