For they were tentmakers by the trade. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And he was reasoning in the synagogue on every Sabbath, persuading both Jews and Greeks. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Now when both Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was occupied with the word, earnestly testifying to the Jews Jesus to be the Christ. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>But of them opposing and reviling <i>him</i>, having shaken out the garments, he said to them, “Your blood <i>be</i> upon your head; I <i>am</i> clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And having departed from there, he came to <i>the</i> house of a certain one named Titius Justus, worshiping God, whose house was adjoining the synagogue. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, with his all household. And many of the Corinthians hearing believed and were baptized. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Now the Lord said to Paul through a vision in <i>the</i> night, <span class="red">“Do not fear, but continue speaking, and do not be silent, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>because I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to harm you, because there are many people to me in this city.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And he remained a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. </p><p class="hdg">Paul Before Gallio</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>But Gallio being proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and led him to the judgment seat, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>saying, “This <i>man</i> persuades men to worship God contrary to the Law.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now Paul being about to open the mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If indeed it was some unrighteousness or wicked crime, O Jews, according to reason I would have endured with you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But if it is a question about a word, and names, and in reference to your law, you will see <i>to it</i> yourselves. I resolve not to be a judge of these things.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And he drove them from the judgment seat. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Then all <i>of them</i>, having seized Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue, began to beat <i>him</i> before the judgment seat. And it mattered nothing to Gallio about these things. </p><p class="hdg">Paul Returns to Antioch</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Now Paul, having remained many days more, having taken leave of the brothers, sailed away to Syria—and with him Priscilla and Aquila—having shaved the head in Cenchrea, for he had a vow. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Now they came to Ephesus, and left them there. And he himself having entered into the synagogue, reasoned with the Jews. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Now of them asking <i>him</i> to remain for a longer time, he did not consent, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>but having taken leave and having said,<span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="BYZ and TR include ‘I must by all means keep this feast that comes in Jerusalem, but’">a</a></span> “I will return to you again, God willing,” he sailed from Ephesus, <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>and having landed at Caesarea, having gone up and having greeted the church, he went down to Antioch. </p><p class="hdg">Paul's Third Missionary Journey<br /><span class="cross">(Acts 13:1-3; Acts 15:36-41)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And having stayed some time, he went forth, passing successively through the Galatian region and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Now a certain Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus, being an eloquent man, mighty in the Scriptures. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>He was instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and was teaching earnestly the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/18-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue.
