As we look back and think about the year past, there is no better soundtrack than the psychedelic soul of the Chambers Brothers. The gospel-soaked opening track "All Strung Out over You" sets the tone for the gutsy organ stomp of the rest of the album, but the true classic is the chiming apocalyptic chant "Time Has Come Today" with its searingly simple guitar riff and the dream-like slowdown of the culmination of the song. Time it right so the crescendo crescends directly at midnight. <br><span class="author"> - Zac Johnson</span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="staffPickItem" data-genres-filter="MA0000002532"> <div class="spImage"> <a href="/album/sings-the-ballads-of-the-true-west-mw0000051255" title="Sings the Ballads of the True West"><img data-src="https://fastly-s3.allmusic.com/release/mr0001375683/front/400/HbBD0HjtnOQ_aYd1IUhuripQg_7iAU1wjqLgK_xGXts=.jpg" alt="Sings the Ballads of the True West" class="spCoverImg lazyload" onerror="this.src='https://fastly-gce.allmusic.com/images/no_image/album_300x300.png'"></a> </div> <div class="spMeta"> <div class="date"> December 30, 2024 </div> <div class="artist"> <a href="https://www.allmusic.com/artist/johnny-cash-mn0000816890" title="Johnny Cash">Johnny Cash</a> </div> <div class="title"><a href="https://www.allmusic.com/album/sings-the-ballads-of-the-true-west-mw0000051255">Sings the Ballads of the True West</a></div> <div class="genres"> <a href="https://www.allmusic.com/genre/country-ma0000002532">Country</a> </div> <div class="headlineReview"> The Man in Black had a flair for concept albums which he nurtured during his tenure on Columbia Records.
