Die von Wüste umgebene Stadt und vor allem ihre Bewohner meinen es dabei wahrlich nicht gut mit ihr. Als einzige mit dunkler Haut ist sie dort kaum mehr als geduldet, wird auch mit körperlicher Gewalt drangsaliert. Dennoch möchte sie ihren Weg gehen, sich von Meister Konstantin zu einer Gelehrten ausbilden lassen. Doch eine seltsame Macht geht von dem eigensinnigen Mann aus. Als sich in Bergquell ein Unglück ereignet und Fioras Vater stirbt, ist sie mit ihrer Schwester Mara auf sich allein gestellt. Durch einen Händler, der Bergquell eines Tages aufsucht, hofft Fiora auf eine Möglichkeit ihrem Leben eine entscheidende Wendung zu geben.</p><h3>Der Weg ist das Ziel</h3><p>Robin Hill ist das Pseudonym eines deutschen Thriller-Autors. Sein „phantastisches“ Debüt gerät überaus kompakt. Dabei ließ der Roman anfangs deutlich mehr Komplexität vermuten. Es ist interessant, dass der Titel betont als Roman zum „Trendthema KI“ positioniert wird. Auch wenn omnipräsent, so legt sich hier die Künstliche Intelligenz aber eher wie ein leichter Mantel um die Geschichte, drängt sich niemals auf - schon gar nicht als High-Tech-Konstrukt - sondern sticht immer nur punktuell durch, lässt uns gewahr werden, welchen Zustand die Welt erreicht hat. Recht früh erfahren wir bereits in kleinen sogenannten Zwischenspielen von besonderen Konflikten und Götterwesen, mächtigen Figuren, die auch im Zusammenspiel mit Fiora an Bedeutung gewinnen und mehr Raum einnehmen sollen.</p><p>Die zu Beginn noch wunderbar mysteriös und undurchsichtig anmutende Geschichte entwickelt sich dann im weiteren Verlauf zu einem stimmungsvollen, rasanten und durchweg packenden Roman. Denn Hill bleibt dicht bei seiner Hauptfigur, die versucht das Geheimnis um eine besondere Macht zu lüften, die sie auch schon bald selbst zu spüren bekommt. Mutig stellt sie sich den Herausforderungen und ihren Widersachern.</p><script type='text/javascript'>OA_show(49);</script><h3>Karge Wüsten und Industrie-Metropolen mit Luftschiffen und Himmelsstädten</h3><p>Fiora ist dabei eine durchaus facettenreiche und liebevoll gezeichnete Figur, die gerade im Zusammenspiel mit anderen Charakteren ihre Konturen erhält. Manchmal etwas naiv und widersprüchlich, wächst die junge Frau an ihren Taten und den Erfahrungen, die sie macht. Sie trifft auf fragwürdige und interessante Wegbegleiter und Widersacher, wird dabei immer wieder mit ihrer Identität und Herkunft konfrontiert, dazu gehört auch die nicht immer einfache Verbindung zu ihrer älteren Schwester.</p><p>Auf ihrem abenteuerlichen und gefährlichen Weg entdecken wir mit ihr eine dystopische Welt, reisen durch karge Wüsten und in große Industrie-Metropolen mit Luftschiffen und Himmelsstädten. Hill erzählt atmosphärisch dicht, verzichtet darauf, übertrieben detailliert in den Ausführungen zu Werke zu gehen, lässt die gegensätzlichen Schauplätze dennoch lebendig werden.</p><h2>Fazit:</h2><p>Robin Hills Ausflug in das Phantastik-Genre hat mir gut gefallen, wenngleich die Nähe zu „Dune“ oder der gar „visionäre Charakter“, wie es der Pressetext verspricht - wenn überhaupt - eher gelegentlich durchblitzt. Das möchte ich auch gar nicht kritisch werten, denn Hill entwirft hier seine eigene Welt und erzählt im Kern ein durchweg spannendes Fantasy-Abenteuer, in das er dezent bekannte Genre-Motive aus Science-Fiction und Steam-Punk mischt.
