A wide range of constitutive equations are available; however, fitting the material constants in the constitutive equations could be complex and time-consuming due to the strong non-linearity and relationship between the constants. This work will focus on the development of a set of unified MATLAB programs for fitting the material constants in the constitutive equations efficiently. Users will only need to supply experimental data in the required format and run the program without modifying functions or precisely guessing the initial values, or finding the parameters in previous works and will be able to fit the material constants efficiently. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constitutive%20equations" title="constitutive equations">constitutive equations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FE%20modelling" title=" FE modelling"> FE modelling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MATLAB%20program" title=" MATLAB program"> MATLAB program</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20curve%20fitting" title=" non-linear curve fitting"> non-linear curve fitting</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162562/a-unified-fitting-method-for-the-set-of-unified-constitutive-equations-for-modelling-microstructure-evolution-in-hot-deformation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162562.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">99</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25274</span> Variogram Fitting Based on the Wilcoxon Norm</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hazem%20Al-Mofleh">Hazem Al-Mofleh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Daniels"> John Daniels</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joseph%20McKean"> Joseph McKean</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Within geostatistics research, effective estimation of the variogram points has been examined, particularly in developing robust alternatives. The parametric fit of these variogram points which eventually defines the kriging weights, however, has not received the same attention from a robust perspective. This paper proposes the use of the non-linear Wilcoxon norm over weighted non-linear least squares as a robust variogram fitting alternative. First, we introduce the concept of variogram estimation and fitting. Then, as an alternative to non-linear weighted least squares, we discuss the non-linear Wilcoxon estimator. Next, the robustness properties of the non-linear Wilcoxon are demonstrated using a contaminated spatial data set. Finally, under simulated conditions, increasing levels of contaminated spatial processes have their variograms points estimated and fit. In the fitting of these variogram points, both non-linear Weighted Least Squares and non-linear Wilcoxon fits are examined for efficiency. At all levels of contamination (including 0%), using a robust estimation and robust fitting procedure, the non-weighted Wilcoxon outperforms weighted Least Squares. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20wilcoxon" title="non-linear wilcoxon">non-linear wilcoxon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robust%20estimation" title=" robust estimation"> robust estimation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variogram%20estimation" title=" variogram estimation"> variogram estimation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wilcoxon%20norm" title=" wilcoxon norm"> wilcoxon norm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50377/variogram-fitting-based-on-the-wilcoxon-norm" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50377.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">458</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25273</span> Development of a System for Fitting Clothes and Accessories Using Augmented Reality</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dinmukhamed%20T.">Dinmukhamed T.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vassiliy%20S."> Vassiliy S.</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This article suggests the idea of fitting clothes and accessories based on augmented reality. It contains a host PC with Human Machine Interface, a wind tunnel, a wind speed controller, an automatic data acquisition module, and nonlinear calibration model. To improve the fitting error by using single fitting polynomial, this study proposes a Multiple three-order Polynomial Fitting Method (MPFM) for fitting the non-linear output of a CTA-based Hot wire Anemometry. The CTA-based anemometer with built-in fitting parameters is installed in the wind tunnel, and the wind speed is controlled by the PC-based controller. The Hot-Wire anemometer's thermistor resistance change is converted into a voltage signal or temperature differences, and then sent to the PC through a DAQ card. After completion measurements of original signal, the Multiple polynomial mathematical coefficients can be automatically calculated, and then sent into the micro-processor in the Hot-Wire anemometer. Finally, the corrected Hot-Wire anemometer is verified for the linearity, the repeatability, error percentage, and the system outputs quality control reports. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20rate%20sensing" title="flow rate sensing">flow rate sensing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hot%20wire" title=" hot wire"> hot wire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=constant%20temperature%20anemometry%20%28CTA%29" title=" constant temperature anemometry (CTA)"> constant temperature anemometry (CTA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear%20calibration" title=" linear calibration"> linear calibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiple%20three-order%20polynomial%20fitting%20method%20%28MPFM%29" title=" multiple three-order polynomial fitting method (MPFM)"> multiple three-order polynomial fitting method (MPFM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=temperature%20compensation" title=" temperature compensation"> temperature compensation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24601/development-of-advanced-linear-calibration-technique-for-air-flow-sensing-by-using-cta-based-hot-wire-anemometry" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24601.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">416</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25271</span> Developing Mathematical Relationships to Evaluate the Amount of Added Ease to the Basic Pattern of Weft Knitting Fabrics and Its Fitting to the Upper Part of Egyptian Women&#039;s Bodies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hebatullah%20Ali%20Abdel-Aleem%20Abdel-Hamid">Hebatullah Ali Abdel-Aleem Abdel-Hamid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Camellia%20Mousa%20Mohamed%20Elzean"> Camellia Mousa Mohamed Elzean</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Knitted garments recently became a key component in wardrobes of the Egyptian woman. Many Egyptian women depend on garments made of knitted fabrics in their outer appearance because of its specific properties including flexibility. Through observation and application, it was noticed that knitwear blocks that used for knitted fabrics somehow does not fit the figures of the Egyptian women. Moreover, the pattern makers are usually confused and unable to choose the suitable blocks for different knitting fabrics taking into consideration its physical and mechanical properties. This study seeks to develop mathematical relationships for evaluation of the amount of added- or subtracted ease to Aldrich’s basic fitting blocks for some weft knitting fabrics and its fitting to the upper part of Egyptian women's bodies. To achieve this goal, 12 samples were used to evaluate fitting of Aldrich’s Basic Fitting Block to the upper part of Egyptian women's bodies. The samples were evaluated before and after alterations, through wear trials on the standard mannequins of size 48 and 56, and judged by experienced assessors using fit evaluation scale. The data obtained were statistically analyzed to identify the efficiency of the adjustments. The Aldrich’s Basic Fitting Block was selected because his method is known internationally and easy to use. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aldrich%20basic%20fitting%20block" title="Aldrich basic fitting block">Aldrich basic fitting block</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clothing%20industry" title=" clothing industry"> clothing industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knitted%20fabrics" title=" knitted fabrics"> knitted fabrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pattern%20construction" title=" pattern construction"> pattern construction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73581/developing-mathematical-relationships-to-evaluate-the-amount-of-added-ease-to-the-basic-pattern-of-weft-knitting-fabrics-and-its-fitting-to-the-upper-part-of-egyptian-womens-bodies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73581.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">266</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25270</span> A Study on Human Musculoskeletal Model for Cycle Fitting: Comparison with EMG</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yoon-%20Ho%20Shin">Yoon- Ho Shin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jin-Seung%20Choi"> Jin-Seung Choi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong-Won%20Kang"> Dong-Won Kang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jeong-Woo%20Seo"> Jeong-Woo Seo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joo-Hack%20Lee"> Joo-Hack Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ju-Young%20Kim"> Ju-Young Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dae-Hyeok%20Kim"> Dae-Hyeok Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seung-Tae%20Yang"> Seung-Tae Yang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gye-Rae%20Tack"> Gye-Rae Tack </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It is difficult to study the effect of various variables on cycle fitting through actual experiment. To overcome such difficulty, the forward dynamics of a musculoskeletal model was applied to cycle fitting in this study. The measured EMG data were compared with the muscle activities of the musculoskeletal model through forward dynamics. EMG data were measured from five cyclists who do not have musculoskeletal diseases during three minutes pedaling with a constant load (150 W) and cadence (90 RPM). The muscles used for the analysis were the Vastus Lateralis (VL), Tibialis Anterior (TA), Bicep Femoris (BF), and Gastrocnemius Medial (GM). Person’s correlation coefficients of the muscle activity patterns, the peak timing of the maximum muscle activities, and the total muscle activities were calculated and compared. BIKE3D model of AnyBody (Anybodytech, Denmark) was used for the musculoskeletal model simulation. The comparisons of the actual experiments with the simulation results showed significant correlations in the muscle activity patterns (VL: 0.789, TA: 0.503, BF: 0.468, GM: 0.670). The peak timings of the maximum muscle activities were distributed at particular phases. The total muscle activities were compared with the normalized muscle activities, and the comparison showed about 10% difference in the VL (+10%), TA (+9.7%), and BF (+10%), excluding the GM (+29.4%). Thus, it can be concluded that muscle activities of model & experiment showed similar results. The results of this study indicated that it was possible to apply the simulation of further improved musculoskeletal model to cycle fitting. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=musculoskeletal%20modeling" title="musculoskeletal modeling">musculoskeletal modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EMG" title=" EMG"> EMG</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cycle%20fitting" title=" cycle fitting"> cycle fitting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title=" simulation"> simulation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20629/a-study-on-human-musculoskeletal-model-for-cycle-fitting-comparison-with-emg" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20629.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">568</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25269</span> The Efficacy of an Ideal RGP Fitting on Higher Order Aberrations (HOA) in 65 Keratoconus Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ghandehari-Motlagh">Ghandehari-Motlagh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad"> Mohammad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: To evaluate of the effect of an ideal fit of RGPs on HOA and keratoconus indices. Universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) has been adopted based on the assumption that with early identification of HL, children will have access to optimal amplification and intervention at younger ages, therefore, taking advantage of the brain’s maximal plasticity. One particular challenge for parents in the early years is achieving consistent hearing aid (HA) use which is critical to the child’s development and constitutes the first step in the rehabilitation process. This study examined the consistency of hearing aid use in young children based on data logging information documented during audiology sessions in the first three years after hearing aid fitting. Methodology: The first 100 children who were diagnosed with bilateral HL before 72 months of age since 2003 to 2015 in a pediatric audiology clinic and who had at least two hearing aid follow-up sessions with available data logging information were included in the study. Data from each audiology session (age of child at the session, average hours of use per day (for each ear) in the first three years after HA fitting) were collected. Clinical characteristics (degree of hearing loss, age of HA fitting) were also documented to further understanding of factors that impact HA use. Results: Preliminary analysis of the results of the first 20 children shows that all of them (100%) have at least one data logging session recorded in the clinical audiology system (Noah). Of the 20 children, 17(85%) have three data logging events recorded in the first three years after HA fitting. Based on the statistical analysis of the first 20 cases, the median hours of use in the first follow-up session after the hearing aid fitting in the right ear is 3.9 hours with an interquartile range (IQR) of 10.2h. For the left ear the median is 4.4 and the IQR is 9.7h. In the first session 47% of the children use their hearing aids ≤5 hours, 12% use them between 5 to 10 hours and 22% use them ≥10 hours a day. However, these children showed increased use by the third follow-up session with a median (IQR) of 9.1 hours for the right ear and 2.5, and of 8.2 hours for left ear (IQR) IQR is 5.6 By the third follow-up session, 14% of children used hearing aids ≤5 hours, while 38% of children used them ≥10 hours. Based on the primary results, factors like age and level of HL significantly impact the hours of use. Conclusion: The use of data logging information to assess the actual hours of HA provides an opportunity to examine the: a) challenges of families of young children with HAs, b) factors that impact use in very young children. Data logging when used collaboratively with parents, can be a powerful tool to identify problems and to encourage and assist families in maximizing their child’s hearing potential. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hearing%20loss" title="hearing loss">hearing loss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hearing%20aid" title=" hearing aid"> hearing aid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20logging" title=" data logging"> data logging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hours%20of%20use" title=" hours of use"> hours of use</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73589/pediatric-hearing-aid-use-a-study-based-on-data-logging-information" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73589.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">230</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25267</span> Robust Variogram Fitting Using Non-Linear Rank-Based Estimators</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hazem%20M.%20Al-Mofleh">Hazem M. In spatial statistics, the conventional variogram fitting procedure (non-linear weighted least squares) suffers from the same outlier problem that has plagued this method from its inception. Even a 3-parameter model, like the variogram, can be adversely affected by a single outlier. This paper uses the Hogg-Type adaptive procedures to select an optimal score function for a rank-based estimator for these non-linear models. Numeric examples and simulation studies will demonstrate the robustness, utility, efficiency, and validity of these estimates. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymptotic%20relative%20efficiency" title="asymptotic relative efficiency">asymptotic relative efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20rank-based" title=" non-linear rank-based"> non-linear rank-based</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rank%20estimates" title=" rank estimates"> rank estimates</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=variogram" title=" variogram"> variogram</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43980/robust-variogram-fitting-using-non-linear-rank-based-estimators" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43980.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">431</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25266</span> Concept of Using an Indicator to Describe the Quality of Fit of Clothing to the Body Using a 3D Scanner and CAD System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monika%20Balach">Monika Balach</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iwona%20Frydrych"> Iwona Frydrych</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Agnieszka%20Cichocka"> Agnieszka Cichocka </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objective of this research is to develop an algorithm, taking into account material type and body type that will describe the fabric properties and quality of fit of a garment to the body. One of the objectives of this research is to develop a new algorithm to simulate cloth draping within CAD/CAM software. Existing virtual fitting does not accurately simulate fabric draping behaviour. Part of the research into virtual fitting will focus on the mechanical properties of fabrics. Material behaviour depends on many factors including fibre, yarn, manufacturing process, fabric weight, textile finish, etc. For this study, several different fabric types with very different mechanical properties will be selected and evaluated for all of the above fabric characteristics. These fabrics include woven thick cotton fabric which is stiff and non-bending, woven with elastic content, which is elastic and bends on the body. Within the virtual simulation, the following mechanical properties can be specified: shear, bending, weight, thickness, and friction. To help calculate these properties, the KES system (Kawabata) can be used. This system was originally developed to calculate the mechanical properties of fabric. In this research, the author will focus on three properties: bending, shear, and roughness. This study will consider current research using the KES system to understand and simulate fabric folding on the virtual body. Testing will help to determine which material properties have the largest impact on the fit of the garment. By developing an algorithm which factors in body type, material type, and clothing function, it will be possible to determine how a specific type of clothing made from a particular type of material will fit on a specific body shape and size. A fit indicator will display areas of stress on the garment such as shoulders, chest waist, hips. From this data, CAD/CAM software can be used to develop garments that fit with a very high degree of accuracy. This research, therefore, aims to provide an innovative solution for garment fitting which will aid in the manufacture of clothing. This research will help the clothing industry by cutting the cost of the clothing manufacturing process and also reduce the cost spent on fitting. The manufacturing process can be made more efficient by virtual fitting of the garment before the real clothing sample is made. Fitting software could be integrated into clothing retailer websites allowing customers to enter their biometric data and determine how the particular garment and material type would fit their body. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20scanning" title="3D scanning">3D scanning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fabric%20mechanical%20properties" title=" fabric mechanical properties"> fabric mechanical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20of%20fit" title=" quality of fit"> quality of fit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=virtual%20fitting" title=" virtual fitting"> virtual fitting</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/83450/concept-of-using-an-indicator-to-describe-the-quality-of-fit-of-clothing-to-the-body-using-a-3d-scanner-and-cad-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/83450.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25265</span> Parameter Interactions in the Cumulative Prospect Theory: Fitting the Binary Choice Experiment Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elzbieta%20Babula">Elzbieta Babula</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juhyun%20Park"> Juhyun Park</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Tversky and Kahneman’s cumulative prospect theory assumes symmetric probability cumulation with regard to the reference point within decision weights. A total of 1963 hearing impaired people were included and were segmented into subgroups based on hearing-loss, demographics, audiological and questionnaires data (i.e., the speech, spatial and qualities of hearing scale [SSQ-12] and the International Outcome Inventory for Hearing-Aids [IOI-HA]). With the aim to provide a better hearing-aid fit to individual patients, we applied modern machine learning techniques with traditional audiograms rule-based systems. Results show that age, speech discrimination scores, and audiogram configurations were evolved as important parameters in characterizing sub-population from the data-set. The attempt to characterize sub-population reveal a clearer picture about the individual hearing difficulties encountered and the benefits derived from more individualized hearing aids. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hearing%20loss" title="hearing loss">hearing loss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=audiological%20data" title=" audiological data"> audiological data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hearing%20aids" title=" hearing aids"> hearing aids</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/101004/techniques-to-characterize-subpopulations-among-hearing-impaired-patients-and-its-impact-for-hearing-aid-fitting" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/101004.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">154</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25262</span> Synchrotron Radiation and Inverse Compton Scattering in Astrophysical Plasma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20S.%20Sathiesh">S. Firstly, a polynomial fitting method based on truncated residual histogram was proposed to find the optimal fitting curve of the profile and reduce the influence of noise on profile curve fitting. Then, based on the curvature distribution characteristics of the fitting curve, the interval search algorithm based on dynamic window’s maximum curvature entropy was proposed to realize the automatic segmentation of small circular arc. At last, we fit two circle centers as matching reference points based on small circular arcs on both sides and realized the alignment from the measured profile to the standard designed profile. The static experimental results show that the mean and standard deviation of the method are controlled within 0.01mm with small measurement errors and high repeatability. The dynamic test also verified the repeatability of the method in the train-running environment, and the dynamic measurement deviation of rail wear is within 0.2mm with high repeatability. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=curvature%20entropy" title="curvature entropy">curvature entropy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=profile%20registration" title=" profile registration"> profile registration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rail%20wear" title=" rail wear"> rail wear</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structured%20light" title=" structured light"> structured light</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=train-running" title=" train-running"> train-running</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89368/automatic-registration-of-rail-profile-based-local-maximum-curvature-entropy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89368.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">260</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25256</span> Geospatial Curve Fitting Methods for Disease Mapping of Tuberculosis in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Davies%20Obaromi">Davies Obaromi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qin%20Yongsong"> Qin Yongsong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=James%20Ndege"> James Ndege</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> To interpolate scattered or regularly distributed data, there are imprecise or exact methods. However, there are some of these methods that could be used for interpolating data in a regular grid and others in an irregular grid. In spatial epidemiology, it is important to examine how a disease prevalence rates are distributed in space, and how they relate with each other within a defined distance and direction. In this study, for the geographic and graphic representation of the disease prevalence, linear and biharmonic spline methods were implemented in MATLAB, and used to identify, localize and compare for smoothing in the distribution patterns of tuberculosis (TB) in Eastern Cape Province. The aim of this study is to produce a more “smooth” graphical disease map for TB prevalence patterns by a 3-D curve fitting techniques, especially the biharmonic splines that can suppress noise easily, by seeking a least-squares fit rather than exact interpolation. The datasets are represented generally as a 3D or XYZ triplets, where X and Y are the spatial coordinates and Z is the variable of interest and in this case, TB counts in the province. This smoothing spline is a method of fitting a smooth curve to a set of noisy observations using a spline function, and it has also become the conventional method for its high precision, simplicity and flexibility. Surface and contour plots are produced for the TB prevalence at the provincial level for 2012 – 2015. From the results, the general outlook of all the fittings showed a systematic pattern in the distribution of TB cases in the province and this is consistent with some spatial statistical analyses carried out in the province. This new method is rarely used in disease mapping applications, but it has a superior advantage to be assessed at subjective locations rather than only on a rectangular grid as seen in most traditional GIS methods of geospatial analyses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear" title="linear">linear</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biharmonic%20splines" title=" biharmonic splines"> biharmonic splines</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tuberculosis" title=" tuberculosis"> tuberculosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=South%20Africa" title=" South Africa"> South Africa</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95803/geospatial-curve-fitting-methods-for-disease-mapping-of-tuberculosis-in-eastern-cape-province-south-africa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/95803.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">238</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25255</span> CFD Prediction of the Round Elbow Fitting Loss Coefficient</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Paula%20P.%20dos%20Santos">Ana Paula P. dos Santos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudia%20R.%20Andrade"> Claudia R. Ductwork can be composed by straight ducts and different types of fittings (elbows, transitions, converging and diverging tees and wyes). Duct fittings are significant sources of pressure loss in fluid distribution systems. Fitting losses can be even more significant than equipment components such as coils, filters, and dampers. At the present work, a conventional 90o round elbow under turbulent incompressible airflow is studied. Mass, momentum, and k-e turbulence model equations are solved employing the finite volume method. The SIMPLE algorithm is used for the pressure-velocity coupling. In order to validate the numerical tool, the elbow pressure loss coefficient is determined using the same conditions to compare with ASHRAE database. Furthermore, the effect of Reynolds number variation on the elbow pressure loss coefficient is investigated. These results can be useful to perform better preliminary design of air distribution ductworks in air conditioning systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=duct%20fitting" title="duct fitting">duct fitting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pressure%20loss" title=" pressure loss"> pressure loss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elbow" title=" elbow"> elbow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermodynamics" title=" thermodynamics"> thermodynamics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3445/cfd-prediction-of-the-round-elbow-fitting-loss-coefficient" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3445.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">391</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25254</span> iCount: An Automated Swine Detection and Production Monitoring System Based on Sobel Filter and Ellipse Fitting Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jocelyn%20B.%20Barbosa">Jocelyn B. With the advent of digital imaging and database technology, business owners have been motivated to integrate technology to their business operation ranging from small, medium to large enterprises. Technology has been found to have brought many benefits that can make a business grow. Hog or swine raising, for example, is a very popular enterprise in the Philippines, whose challenges in production monitoring can be addressed through technology integration. Swine production monitoring can become a tedious task as the enterprise goes larger. Specifically, problems like delayed and inconsistent reports are most likely to happen if counting of swine per pen of which building is done manually. In this study, we present iCount, which aims to ensure efficient swine detection and counting that hastens the swine production monitoring task. We develop a system that automatically detects and counts swine based on Sobel filter and ellipse fitting model, given the still photos of the group of swine captured in a pen. We improve the Sobel filter detection result through 8-neigbhorhood rule implementation. Ellipse fitting technique is then employed for proper swine detection. Furthermore, the system can generate periodic production reports and can identify the specific consumables to be served to the swine according to schedules. Experiments reveal that our algorithm provides an efficient way for detecting swine, thereby providing a significant amount of accuracy in production monitoring. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=automatic%20swine%20counting" title="automatic swine counting">automatic swine counting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swine%20detection" title=" swine detection"> swine detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swine%20production%20monitoring" title=" swine production monitoring"> swine production monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ellipse%20fitting%20model" title=" ellipse fitting model"> ellipse fitting model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sobel%20filter" title=" sobel filter"> sobel filter</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62074/icount-an-automated-swine-detection-and-production-monitoring-system-based-on-sobel-filter-and-ellipse-fitting-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62074.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">311</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25253</span> Refitting Equations for Peak Ground Acceleration in Light of the PF-L Database</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Matev%C5%BE%20Bre%C5%A1ka">Matevž Breška</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iztok%20Peru%C5%A1"> Iztok Peruš</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vlado%20Stankovski"> Vlado Stankovski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Systematic overview of existing Ground Motion Prediction Equations (GMPEs) has been published by Douglas. The number of earthquake recordings that have been used for fitting these equations has increased in the past decades. The current PF-L database contains 3550 recordings. Since the GMPEs frequently model the peak ground acceleration (PGA) the goal of the present study was to refit a selection of 44 of the existing equation models for PGA in light of the latest data. The algorithm Levenberg-Marquardt was used for fitting the coefficients of the equations and the results are evaluated both quantitatively by presenting the root mean squared error (RMSE) and qualitatively by drawing graphs of the five best fitted equations. The RMSE was found to be as low as 0.08 for the best equation models. Many studies on dengue cases in Malaysia were conducted but are limited in modeling the outbreak and forecasting incidence. This article attempts to propose the most appropriate time series model to explain the behavior of dengue incidence in Malaysia for the purpose of forecasting future dengue outbreaks. Several seasonal auto-regressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) models were developed to model Malaysia’s number of dengue incidence on weekly data collected from January 2001 to December 2011. SARIMA (2,1,1)(1,1,1)52 model was found to be the most suitable model for Malaysia’s dengue incidence with the least value of Akaike information criteria (AIC) and Bayesian information criteria (BIC) for in-sample fitting. The models further evaluate out-sample forecast accuracy using four different accuracy measures. The results indicate that SARIMA (2,1,1)(1,1,1)52 performed well for both in-sample fitting and out-sample evaluation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=time%20series%20modeling" title="time series modeling">time series modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Box-Jenkins" title=" Box-Jenkins"> Box-Jenkins</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SARIMA" title=" SARIMA"> SARIMA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forecasting" title=" forecasting"> forecasting</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1823/forecasting-model-to-predict-dengue-incidence-in-malaysia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1823.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">485</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25251</span> Electricity Load Modeling: An Application to Italian Market</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Giovanni%20Masala">Giovanni Masala</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stefania%20Marica"> Stefania Marica</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Forecasting electricity load plays a crucial role regards decision making and planning for economical purposes. Besides, in the light of the recent privatization and deregulation of the power industry, the forecasting of future electricity load turned out to be a very challenging problem. Empirical data about electricity load highlights a clear seasonal behavior (higher load during the winter season), which is partly due to climatic effects. We also emphasize the presence of load periodicity at a weekly basis (electricity load is usually lower on weekends or holidays) and at daily basis (electricity load is clearly influenced by the hour). Finally, a long-term trend may depend on the general economic situation (for example, industrial production affects electricity load). All these features must be captured by the model. The purpose of this paper is then to build an hourly electricity load model. The deterministic component of the model requires non-linear regression and Fourier series while we will investigate the stochastic component through econometrical tools. The calibration of the parameters&rsquo; model will be performed by using data coming from the Italian market in a 6 year period (2007- 2012). Then, we will perform a Monte Carlo simulation in order to compare the simulated data respect to the real data (both in-sample and out-of-sample inspection). The reliability of the model will be deduced thanks to standard tests which highlight a good fitting of the simulated values. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ARMA-GARCH%20process" title="ARMA-GARCH process">ARMA-GARCH process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electricity%20load" title=" electricity load"> electricity load</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fitting%20tests" title=" fitting tests"> fitting tests</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fourier%20series" title=" Fourier series"> Fourier series</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monte%20Carlo%20simulation" title=" Monte Carlo simulation"> Monte Carlo simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20regression" title=" non-linear regression"> non-linear regression</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11709/electricity-load-modeling-an-application-to-italian-market" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11709.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">395</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25250</span> Prediction of Permeability of Frozen Unsaturated Soil Using Van Genuchten Model and Fredlund-Xing Model in Soil Vision</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bhavita%20S.%20Dave">Bhavita S. In this study, soil specimens were subjected to 0, 1, 3, and 5 freezing-thawing (F-T) cycles for different degrees of saturation to have a wide range of suction, and its soil freezing characteristic curves were formulated for all F-T cycles. Finally, numerical examples are presented, to show the efficiency and accuracy of the new method. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=third%20derivative%20four-step" title="third derivative four-step">third derivative four-step</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exponentially%20fitted" title=" exponentially fitted"> exponentially fitted</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=a-stable" title=" a-stable"> a-stable</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stiff%20differential%20equations" title=" stiff differential equations"> stiff differential equations</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74060/a-class-of-third-derivative-four-step-exponential-fitting-numerical-integrator-for-stiff-differential-equations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74060.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">265</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25248</span> Parametric Modeling for Survival Data with Competing Risks Using the Generalized Gompertz Distribution</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noora%20Al-Shanfari">Noora Al-Shanfari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Mazharul%20Islam"> M. Parametric modeling of CIF has the advantage of fitting various shapes of CIF and estimates the impact of covariates with maximum efficiency. To calculate the total CIF's covariate influence using a parametric model., it is essential to parametrize the baseline of the CIF. As the CIF is an improper function by nature, it is necessary to utilize an improper distribution when applying parametric models. The Gompertz distribution, which is an improper distribution, is limited in its applicability as it only accounts for monotone hazard shapes. The generalized Gompertz distribution, however, can adapt to a wider range of hazard shapes, including unimodal, bathtub, and monotonic increasing or decreasing hazard shapes. In this paper, the generalized Gompertz distribution is used to parametrize the baseline of the CIF, and the parameters of the proposed model are estimated using the maximum likelihood approach. The proposed model is compared with the existing Gompertz model using the Akaike information criterion. Appropriate statistical test procedures and model-fitting criteria will be used to test the adequacy of the model. Both models are applied to the ‘colon’ dataset, which is available in the “biostat3” package in R. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=competing%20risks" title="competing risks">competing risks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cumulative%20incidence%20function" title=" cumulative incidence function"> cumulative incidence function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=improper%20distribution" title=" improper distribution"> improper distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parametric%20modeling" title=" parametric modeling"> parametric modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=survival%20analysis" title=" survival analysis"> survival analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162228/parametric-modeling-for-survival-data-with-competing-risks-using-the-generalized-gompertz-distribution" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162228.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">103</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25247</span> Stray Light Reduction Methodology by a Sinusoidal Light Modulation and Three-Parameter Sine Curve Fitting Algorithm for a Reflectance Spectrometer</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hung%20Chih%20Hsieh">Hung Chih Hsieh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheng%20Hao%20Chang"> Cheng Hao Chang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yun%20Hsiang%20Chang"> Yun Hsiang Chang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu%20Lin%20Chang"> Yu Lin Chang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the applications of the spectrometer, the stray light that comes from the environment affects the measurement results a lot. Hence, environment and instrument quality control for the stray reduction is critical for the spectral reflectance measurement. In this paper, a simple and practical method has been developed to correct a spectrometer's response for measurement errors arising from the environment's and instrument's stray light. A sinusoidal modulated light intensity signal was incident on a tested sample, and then the reflected light was collected by the spectrometer. Since a sinusoidal signal modulated the incident light, the reflected light also had a modulated frequency which was the same as the incident signal. Using the three-parameter sine curve fitting algorithm, we can extract the primary reflectance signal from the total measured signal, which contained the primary reflectance signal and the stray light from the environment. The spectra similarity between the extracted spectra by this proposed method with extreme environment stray light is 99.98% similar to the spectra without the environment's stray light. This result shows that we can measure the reflectance spectra without the affection of the environment's stray light. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectrometer" title="spectrometer">spectrometer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stray%20light" title=" stray light"> stray light</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=three-parameter%20sine%20curve%20fitting" title=" three-parameter sine curve fitting"> three-parameter sine curve fitting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spectra%20extraction" title=" spectra extraction"> spectra extraction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138998/stray-light-reduction-methodology-by-a-sinusoidal-light-modulation-and-three-parameter-sine-curve-fitting-algorithm-for-a-reflectance-spectrometer" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138998.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">248</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">25246</span> Modeling Activity Pattern Using XGBoost for Mining Smart Card Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eui-Jin%20Kim">Eui-Jin Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hasik%20Lee"> Hasik Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Su-Jin%20Park"> Su-Jin Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong-Kyu%20Kim"> Dong-Kyu Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Smart-card data are expected to provide information on activity pattern as an alternative to conventional person trip surveys. The focus of this study is to propose a method for training the person trip surveys to supplement the smart-card data that does not contain the purpose of each trip. We selected only available features from smart card data such as spatiotemporal information on the trip and geographic information system (GIS) data near the stations to train the survey data. XGboost, which is state-of-the-art tree-based ensemble classifier, was used to train data from multiple sources. This classifier uses a more regularized model formalization to control the over-fitting and show very fast execution time with well-performance. The validation results showed that proposed method efficiently estimated the trip purpose. GIS data of station and duration of stay at the destination were significant features in modeling trip purpose. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
