In addition to the traditional topic of mass diffusion, the journal is open to papers from the area of heat transfer in solids, liquids and gases, materials and substances.
All papers are peer-reviewed and edited.

Papers submitted in Defect and Diffusion Forum (DDF) cannot be published or sent for publication elsewhere. Multiple submission and redundant publication is prohibited. Authors allowed to preserve pre-prints in arXiv and ChemRxiv and in case of publication of their paper in DDF, authors should update pre-print by linking it to corresponding paper's DoI. 
Authors retain the right to publish an extended, significantly updated version in another periodical. 
Each submitted paper in Defect and Diffusion Forum (DDF) is a subject of obligatory peer-review by at least two independent external reviewers in the area of scientific research. Detailed peer-review process and peer-review policy can be found here.

Defect and Diffusion Forum (DDF) publishes in hybrid model. Publisher's copyrighted papers are published online. The standard copyright agreement can be found here. Authors have optional possibility to publish their papers under the Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0) license at APC Euro 1450 or at waived institutional rates (see details here). Data sharing and/or reproducibility is done individually in line with copyright agreement or Creative Commons license. 

Each submitted paper is a subject of plagiarism check via iThenticate, as well as eligibility with international standards and requirements. All allegations of research misconduct in published papers, including but not limited by plagiarism, authorship, citation manipulation, data falsification, etc., are subject of responsibility of Trans Tech Publications and editors and processed following COPE's guidelines.

They are also the most promising one, with one particular sample of multi-walled nanotube attaining a tensile strength of 63GPa, and with carbon nanotubes in general having a specific strength of up to 48000kNm/kg: effectively a direct exploitation of the covalent sp<sup>2</sup> bonding between carbon atoms. Plastic deformation begins at about 5% strain. The nanotubes can be produced in lengths of up to 550mm, and thicknesses as small as 4.3Å; making them perfect reinforcement fibres for composites. They also have many other properties which may be useful in electronics, gas storage , etc. The present compilation focuses on the various characteristic types of defect which are found in carbon nanotubes, plus the relatively limited number of diffusion studies which have been performed. It has long been known for its harmful effect upon mild steel sheet; the deleterious phenomenon of hydrogen-embrittlement having been recognized since the early days of the industrial revolution. Its behavior in some metals is further complicated by its tendency to form hydrides with the metal, or with various non-metallic impurities. The ability of some metals and alloys to store large quantities of hydrogen – first recognized in the 19<sup>th</sup> century - is another complicating factor. The complexity of metal-hydrogen behavior was undoubtedly also the cause of the mistaken ‘cold fusion’ claims of the late 1980s. The present issue comprises a compilation of hydrogen diffusion and permeation data in metals. These data are believed to be ‘pure’: that is, free from the interfering effects of hydride formation, etc. The almost 600 entries, 201 tables and 41 figures cover the period from 1966 to 2013.
