With technical developments, artificial intelligence applications are becoming more prevalent. We chose ELSA speak because it is a magnificent example of Artificial intelligent applications, ELSA speak is a smartphone application that is free to download on both IOS and Android smartphones. ELSA speak utilizes artificial intelligence to help non-native English speakers pronounce words and phrases similar to a native speaker, as well as enhance their English skills. It employs speech-recognition technology that aids the application to excel the pronunciation of its users. This remarkable feature distinguishes ELSA from other voice recognition algorithms and increase the efficiency of the application. This study focused on evaluating ELSA speak application, by testing the degree of effectiveness based on survey questions. The results of the questionnaire were variable. The generality of the participants strongly agreed that ELSA has helped them enhance their pronunciation skills. However, a few participants were unconfident about the application’s ability to assist them in their learning journey. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ELSA%20speak%20application" title="ELSA speak application">ELSA speak application</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artificial%20intelligence" title=" artificial intelligence"> artificial intelligence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=speech-recognition%20technology" title=" speech-recognition technology"> speech-recognition technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language%20learning" title=" language learning"> language learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=english%20pronunciation" title=" english pronunciation"> english pronunciation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151244/english-learning-speech-assistant-speak-application-in-artificial-intelligence" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151244.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">106</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">66</span> Application of Dastamboo Fruit (Cucumis melo var. dudaim) Extract for Buffalo Meat Tenderization</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Javadi">A. Cubic pieces were selected from the biceps fermoris muscle of a five year-old female water buffalo; then, they were cut two or three hours after the buffalo was slaughtered. The selected samples were superficially exposed to the resolution obtained from the powder of the extract of Cucumis melo var. dudaim. Distilled water as a control sample and the powder of fruit extract of the mentioned plant with 0.5, 1 and 1.5 percent concentrations were experimented in the study. These samples were kept for three time spans of 2 hours, 7 and 14 days. Then, some tests were conducted on the samples both before and after cooking them. In general, with regard to the results obtained from the experiments and the investigations of the impact of time and different concentrations on the tenderization of buffalo meat, it can be argued that the time span of 2 hours and the concentration of 1.5 % can be considered as the best time and concentration for obtaining the most desirable tenderness. Also, tenderness increased in the samples kept for 7 and 14 days; however, due to the extraordinary decomposition, the samples were rather doughy and pasty. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=meat" title="meat">meat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cucumis%20melo%20var.%20dudaim" title=" Cucumis melo var. dudaim"> Cucumis melo var. dudaim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tenderization" title=" tenderization"> tenderization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20buffalo" title=" water buffalo"> water buffalo</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13178/application-of-dastamboo-fruit-cucumis-melo-var-dudaim-extract-for-buffalo-meat-tenderization" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13178.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">366</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">65</span> A Path for Assistance for People With Stroke in Angola</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Louren%C3%A7o%20Jos%C3%A9">Lourenço José</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elsa%20Melo"> Elsa Melo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sandra%20Viera"> Sandra Viera</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ana%20Pinheiro"> Ana Pinheiro</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: People with stroke in Angola face challenges in accessing appropriate healthcare and rehabilitation services. Holding one or more conditions increases one’s risk for development of future conditions; with patients over 65 years old at highest risk. Psychosocial factors such as anxiety and depression are rising exponentially globally, which has been amplified by the COVID19 pandemic. These are highly correlated and predict poorer outcomes when held in coexistence and increase the likelihood of comorbid physical health conditions. While possible future reform of social and healthcare systems may help to alleviate some of these mounting pressures, there remains an urgent need to better understand the potential role health behaviours and psychosocial conditions - such as anxiety and depression – may have on aging populations. Using the UK healthcare scene as a lens for analysis, this study uses big data collected in the UK Longitudinal Study of Aging (ELSA) to examine the role of anxiety and depression in ageing populations (65yrs+). Using logistic regression modelling, results identify the 10 most significant variables correlated with both anxiety and depression from data categorised into the areas of health behaviour, psychosocial, socioeconomic, and life satisfaction (each demonstrated through literature review to be of significance). These are compared with wider global research findings with the aim of better understanding the areas in which social and healthcare reform can support multimorbidity interventions, making suggestions for improved patient-centred care. Scope of future research is outlined, which includes analysis of 59 total multimorbidity variables from the ELSA dataset, going beyond anxiety and depression. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multimorbidity" title="multimorbidity">multimorbidity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20behaviours" title=" health behaviours"> health behaviours</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=patient%20centred%20care" title=" patient centred care"> patient centred care</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=psychosocial%20factors" title=" psychosocial factors"> psychosocial factors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161866/identifying-indicative-health-behaviours-and-psychosocial-factors-affecting-multi-morbidity-conditions-in-ageing-populations-preliminary-results-from-the-elsa-study-of-ageing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/161866.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">92</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">63</span> Pb and NI Removal from Aqueous Environment by Green Synthesized Iron Nanoparticles Using Fruit Cucumis Melo and Leaves of Ficus Virens</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amandeep%20Kaur">Amandeep Kaur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sangeeta%20Sharma"> Sangeeta Sharma</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Keeping in view the serious entanglement of heavy metals ( Pb+2 and Ni+2) ions in an aqueous environment, a rapid search for efficient adsorbents for the adsorption of heavy metals has become highly desirable. In this quest, green synthesized Fe np’s have gathered attention because of their excellent adsorption capability of heavy metals from aqueous solution. This research report aims at the fabrication of Fe np’s using the fruit Cucumis melo and leaves of Ficus virens via a biogenic synthesis route. Further, synthesized CM-Fe-np’s and FV-Fe-np’s have been tested as potential bio-adsorbents for the removal of Pb+2 and Ni+2 by carrying out adsorption batch experiments. The influence of myriad parameters like initial concentration of Pb/Ni (5,10,15,20,25 mg/L), contact time (10 to 200 min.), adsorbent dosage (0.5, 0.10, 0.15 mg/L), shaking speed (120 to 350 rpm) and pH value (6,7,8,9) has been investigated. The maximum removal with CM-Fe-np’s and FV-Fe-np’s has been achieved at pH 7, metal conc. 5 mg/L, dosage 0.9 g/L, shaking speed 200 rpm and reaction contact time 200 min during the adsorption experiment. The results obtained are found to be in accordance with Freundlich and Langmuir's adsorption models; consequently, they could be highly applicable to the wastewater treatment plant. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adsorption" title="adsorption">adsorption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biogenic%20synthesis" title=" biogenic synthesis"> biogenic synthesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanoparticles" title=" nanoparticles"> nanoparticles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nickel" title=" nickel"> nickel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lead" title=" lead"> lead</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159301/pb-and-ni-removal-from-aqueous-environment-by-green-synthesized-iron-nanoparticles-using-fruit-cucumis-melo-and-leaves-of-ficus-virens" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159301.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">87</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">62</span> Trajectories of Physical Activity Intensity and Associated Factors in Men and Women from Elsa-Brasil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andr%C3%A9%20Luis%20Messias%20Dos%20Santos%20Duque">André Luis Messias Dos Santos Duque</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniela%20Polessa%20Paula"> Daniela Polessa Paula</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rosane%20Harter%20Griep"> Rosane Harter Griep</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The intensity of physical activity (PA) over time is essential for health promotion. However, there are few studies that have analyzed the practice of different intensities of PA longitudinally. The objective was to identify PA intensity trajectories in men and women from a Brazilian multicentric cohort and their associated factors. Data from 10,367 participants (5,777 women and 4,590 men) aged 35 to 74 years from the baseline and two follow-up visits (2012-2014 and 2017-2019) of the Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil) were analyzed. PA intensity (low, moderate, or high) was assessed using the leisure-time PA module of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and sociodemographic, behavioral, and clinical variables were included. Chi-square and T-student tests were used, considering a significant level of 5%. Four intensity trajectories were identified: low, moderate, high, and no pattern. Most participants (82.5% of women and 75.7% of men) had low PA intensity trajectories, and only 2% of women and 4.8% of men had high PA intensity trajectories. For both sexes, a significant difference (p<0.05) was found for age group, education level, income, smoking, type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertriglyceridemia, and hypertension. Actions that promote the practice of high-intensity PA over time and consider sociodemographic, clinical, and behavioral factors are necessary. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lifestyle" title="lifestyle">lifestyle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=longterm%20effects" title=" longterm effects"> longterm effects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physical%20activity" title=" physical activity"> physical activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=socioeconomic%20factors" title=" socioeconomic factors"> socioeconomic factors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192370/trajectories-of-physical-activity-intensity-and-associated-factors-in-men-and-women-from-elsa-brasil" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/192370.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">16</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">61</span> Taxonomic Analyses of Some Members of Cucurbitoideae Using Phytolith Marker</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J.%20K.%20Ebigwai">J. Worst still is the overriding reliance on morphometric marker in the delimitation of cucurbitoideae members. Considerable symplesiomorphic and synapmorphic character states have been observed among some members of same genera than do with some members of other genera. The broad study aims at establishing phylogenies among species of Cucumis (Melothrieae), Momordica, Telfairia (Jolliffieae), Trichosanthes (Trichosantheae), Citrullus, Lagenaria, Luffa (Benincaseae) and Cucurbita (Cucurbita) using anatomical, cytological, Palynological, serological, and phytolith markers. However, this paper shall present preliminary findings on the phytolith character states for Cucumis melo, Momordica charantia, Telfairia occidentales, Trichosanthes dioica, Citrullus vulgaris, Lagenaria siceraria, Luffa cylindrical, Cucurbita pepo and Cucurbita maxima. Heavy liquid floatation method was employed in the extraction of the phytolith matter from the leaf tissues of these species. The result revealed that a bilobate short cell and a trapeziform sinuate form were absent in all the species except in Cucumis melo, Citrullus vulgaris and Lagenaria siceraria. Also a globular granulate form was observed exclusively in Telfairia occidentales, Cucurbita maxima, Momordica charantia and Luffa cylindrical. Other forms of phytolith observed were not diagnostic as they were not species specific. The results tentatively suggests a closer examination of the existing classification system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bilobate%20short%20cell" title="bilobate short cell">bilobate short cell</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cucums" title=" cucums"> cucums</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phytolith" title=" phytolith"> phytolith</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=telfairia" title=" telfairia"> telfairia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trapeziform%20sinuate" title=" trapeziform sinuate"> trapeziform sinuate</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27050/taxonomic-analyses-of-some-members-of-cucurbitoideae-using-phytolith-marker" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/27050.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">344</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">60</span> Ethical, Legal and Societal Aspects of Unmanned Aircraft in Defence</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Henning%20Lahmann">Henning Lahmann</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benjamyn%20I.%20Scott"> Benjamyn I. Despite the vast opportunities that defence AI-technology presents, there are also a variety of ethical, legal, and societal concerns. To ensure the successful use of AI technology by the military, ethical, legal, and societal aspects (ELSA) need to be considered, and their concerns continuously addressed at all levels. This includes ELSA considerations during the design, manufacturing and maintenance of AI-based systems, as well as its utilisation via appropriate military doctrine and training. This raises the question how defence organisations can remain strategically competitive and at the edge of military innovation, while respecting the values of its citizens. This paper will explain the set-up and share preliminary results of a 4-year research project commissioned by the National Research Council in the Netherlands on the ethical, legal, and societal aspects of AI in defence. The project plans to develop a future-proof, independent, and consultative ecosystem for the responsible use of AI in the defence domain. In order to achieve this, the lab shall devise a context-dependent methodology that focuses on the ‘analysis’, ‘design’ and ‘evaluation’ of ELSA of AI-based applications within the military context, which include inter alia unmanned aircraft. This is bolstered as the Lab also recognises and complements the existing methods in regards to human-machine teaming, explainable algorithms, and value-sensitive design. Such methods will be modified for the military context and applied to pertinent case-studies. These case-studies include, among others, the application of autonomous robots (incl. semi- autonomous) and AI-based methods against cognitive warfare. As the perception of the application of AI in the military context, by both society and defence personnel, is important, the Lab will study how these perceptions evolve and vary in different contexts. Furthermore, the Lab will monitor – as they may influence people’s perception – developments in the global technological, military and societal spheres. Although the emphasis of the research project is on different forms of AI in defence, it focuses on several case studies. One of these case studies is on unmanned aircraft, which will also be the focus of the paper. Hence, ethical, legal, and societal aspects of unmanned aircraft in the defence domain will be discussed in detail, including but not limited to privacy issues. Typical other issues concern security (for people, objects, data or other aircraft), privacy (sensitive data, hindrance, annoyance, data collection, function creep), chilling effects, PlayStation mentality, and PTSD. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=autonomous%20weapon%20systems" title="autonomous weapon systems">autonomous weapon systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=unmanned%20aircraft" title=" unmanned aircraft"> unmanned aircraft</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=human-machine%20teaming" title=" human-machine teaming"> human-machine teaming</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=meaningful%20human%20control" title=" meaningful human control"> meaningful human control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=value-sensitive%20design" title=" value-sensitive design"> value-sensitive design</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151541/ethical-legal-and-societal-aspects-of-unmanned-aircraft-in-defence" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151541.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">93</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">59</span> Choice of Sleeper and Rail Fastening Using Linear Programming Technique</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luciano%20Oliveira">Luciano Oliveira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elsa%20V%C3%A1squez-Alvarez"> Elsa Vásquez-Alvarez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The increase in rail freight transport in Brazil in recent years requires new railway lines and the maintenance of existing ones, which generates high costs for concessionaires. Mangalore melon, a genetic homeologue of muskmelon, has a shelf life of more than six months and is mostly used for culinary purposes. Understanding the genetics of shelf life, yield and yield-related traits and identification of markers linked to such traits is helpful in transfer of extended shelf life from Mangalore melon to the muskmelon through intra-specific hybridization. For QTL mapping, 276 F2 mapping population derived from the cross Arka Siri × SS-17 was genotyped with 40 polymorphic markers distributed across 12 chromosomes. The same population was also phenotyped for yield, shelf life and fruit quality traits. One major QTL (R2 >10) and fourteen minor QTLs (R2 <10) localized on four linkage groups, governing different traits were mapped in F2 mapping population developed from the intraspecific cross with a LOD > 5.5. The phenotypic varience explained by each locus varied from 3.63 to 10.97 %. One QTL was linked to shelf-life (qSHL-3-1), five QTLs were linked to TSS (qTSS-1-1, qTSS-3-3, qTSS-3-1, qTSS-3-2 and qTSS-1-2), two QTLs for flesh thickness (qFT-3-1, and qFT-3-2) and seven QTLs for fruit yield per vine (qFYV-3-1, qFYV-1-1, qFYV-3-1, qFYV1-1, qFYV-1-3, qFYV2-1 and qFYV6-1). QTL flanking markers may be used for marker assisted introgression of shelf life into muskmelon. Important QTL will be further fine-mapped for identifying candidate genes by QTLseq and RNAseq analysis. Fine-mapping of Important Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) holds immense promise in elucidating the genetic basis of complex traits. Leveraging advanced techniques like QTLseq and RNA sequencing (RNA seq) is crucial for this endeavor. QTLseq combines next-generation sequencing with traditional QTL mapping, enabling precise identification of genomic regions associated with traits of interest. Through high-throughput sequencing, QTLseq provides a detailed map of genetic variations linked to phenotypic variations, facilitating targeted investigations. Moreover, RNA seq analysis offers a comprehensive view of gene expression patterns in response to specific traits or conditions. By comparing transcriptomes between contrasting phenotypes, RNA seq aids in pinpointing candidate genes underlying QTL regions. Integrating QTLseq with RNA seq allows for a multi-dimensional approach, coupling genetic variation with gene expression dynamics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=QTL" title="QTL">QTL</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shelf%20life" title=" shelf life"> shelf life</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TSS" title=" TSS"> TSS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=muskmelon%20and%20Mangalore%20melon" title=" muskmelon and Mangalore melon"> muskmelon and Mangalore melon</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183389/genetic-dissection-of-qtls-in-intraspecific-hybrids-derived-from-muskmelon-cucumis-melo-l-and-mangalore-melon-cucumis-melo-var-acidulus-for-shelflife-and-fruit-quality-traits" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183389.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">54</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">57</span> Accuracy of a 3D-Printed Polymer Model for Producing Casting Mold</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ariangelo%20Hauer%20Dias%20Filho">Ariangelo Hauer Dias Filho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gustavo%20Antoni%C3%A1comi%20de%20Carvalho"> Gustavo Antoniácomi de Carvalho</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benjamim%20de%20Melo%20Carvalho"> Benjamim de Melo Carvalho</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The work´s purpose was to evaluate the possibility of manufacturing casting tools utilizing Fused Filament Fabrication, a 3D printing technique, without any post-processing on the printed part. Innovation and creativity are incorporated as key aspects to creating value for consumers and for the creation of competitive advantage in organizations. However, there are factors that contribute strong with development of innovation and creation in organizations. These factors are the intellectual capital and knowledge management, which together with sustainability, ensure the development of competitive strategies. However, it is understood that the role of the leader is essential to stimulate the development of human capital, because the human capital is essential for organizations of knowledge. It is the leader who drives the dissemination and sharing of knowledge, an essential aspect for the formation of intellectual capital and therefore should be managed. And it turns out that the management of knowledge through intellectual capital allows the development of environmental initiatives efficiently and effectively. Thus, the research demonstrates the importance of the role of leader / manager in organizations and seeks to analyze how managers can contribute to the adoption of sustainability through intellectual capital and knowledge management. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intellectual%20capital" title="intellectual capital">intellectual capital</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knowledge%20management" title=" knowledge management"> knowledge management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leadership%20role" title=" leadership role"> leadership role</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability" title=" sustainability"> sustainability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14133/intellectual-capital-knowledge-management-and-the-leader-role-in-the-construction-of-sustainability" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14133.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">496</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">54</span> Optimization of Carbon Nanotube Content of Asphalt Nanocomposites with Regard to Resistance to Permanent Deformation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jo%C3%A3o%20V.%20Staub%20de%20Melo">João V. Asphalt nanocomposites were prepared with the addition of different proportions of CNTs (1%, 2% and 3%) in relation to the weight of asphalt binder. The base binder used was a conventional binder (50-70 penetration) classified as PG 58-22. The optimum percentage of CNT addition in the asphalt binder (base) was determined through the evaluation of the rheological and empirical characteristics of the nanocomposites produced. In order to evaluate the contribution and the effects of the nanocomposite (optimized) in relation to the rutting, the conventional and nanomodified asphalt mixtures were tested in a French traffic simulator (Orniéreur). The results obtained demonstrate the efficient contribution of the asphalt nanocomposite containing CNTs to the resistance to permanent deformation of the asphalt mixture. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asphalt%20nanocomposites" title="asphalt nanocomposites">asphalt nanocomposites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asphalt%20mixtures" title=" asphalt mixtures"> asphalt mixtures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carbon%20nanotubes" title=" carbon nanotubes"> carbon nanotubes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanotechnology" title=" nanotechnology"> nanotechnology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=permanent%20deformation" title=" permanent deformation"> permanent deformation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72307/optimization-of-carbon-nanotube-content-of-asphalt-nanocomposites-with-regard-to-resistance-to-permanent-deformation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72307.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">285</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">53</span> Feature Extraction Based on Contourlet Transform and Log Gabor Filter for Detection of Ulcers in Wireless Capsule Endoscopy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nimisha%20Elsa%20Koshy">Nimisha Elsa Koshy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Varun%20P.%20Gopi"> Varun P. Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) is a low risk, painless, noninvasive procedure for diagnosing diseases such as bleeding, polyps, ulcers, and Crohns disease within the human digestive tract, especially the small intestine that was unreachable using the traditional endoscopic methods. However, analysis of massive images of WCE detection is tedious and time consuming to physicians. Hence, researchers have developed software methods to detect these diseases automatically. Thus, the effectiveness of WCE can be improved. In this paper, a novel textural feature extraction method is proposed based on Contourlet transform and Log Gabor filter to distinguish ulcer regions from normal regions. The results show that the proposed method performs well with a high accuracy rate of 94.16% using Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier in HSV colour space. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contourlet%20transform" title="contourlet transform">contourlet transform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=log%20gabor%20filter" title=" log gabor filter"> log gabor filter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ulcer" title=" ulcer"> ulcer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20capsule%20endoscopy" title=" wireless capsule endoscopy"> wireless capsule endoscopy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17330/feature-extraction-based-on-contourlet-transform-and-log-gabor-filter-for-detection-of-ulcers-in-wireless-capsule-endoscopy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17330.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">540</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">52</span> Annoyance Caused by Air Pollution: A Comparative Study of Two Industrialized Regions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Milena%20M.%20Melo">Milena M. By applying methods from artistic research, performative arts, audio science, nanotechnology, and interaction design, we created working prototypes with actuators that were specifically positioned in various places on the body. The vibrotactile prototypes were tested by our research team, design students, and people with deafblindness and blindness, each with different intentions. Some tests supported connoisseurship for vibrotactile musical expression. Others aimed for precise navigational instructions. Our results and discussion concern problems in establishing standards for vibrotactility because standards minimize diversity and narrow possible ways vibration can be experienced. Human bodies vary significantly in ‘where’ vibrotactile signals can be sensed and ‘how’ they awaken emotions. We encourage others to embrace the dynamic exchange between new haptic technology and aesthetic complexity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aesthetics" title="aesthetics">aesthetics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vibration" title=" vibration"> vibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=music" title=" music"> music</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interaction%20design" title=" interaction design"> interaction design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deafblindness" title=" deafblindness"> deafblindness</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159494/vibrotactility-exploring-and-prototyping-the-aesthetics-and-technology-of-vibrotactility" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159494.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">86</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">50</span> Improvement of the Melon (Cucumis melo L.) through Genetic Gain and Discriminant Function</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20R.%20Naroui%20Rad">M. This research was performed with the objective to assess the impact of nine different morphological traits on the production of 20 melon landraces in the sistan weather region. For all the traits genetic variation was noted. Minimum genetical variance (9.66) along with high genetic interaction with the environment led to low heritability (0.24) of the yield. The broad sense heritability of the traits that were included into the differentiating model was more than it was in the production. In this study, the five selected traits, number of fruit, fruit weight, fruit width, flesh diameter and plant yield can differentiate the genotypes with high or low production. This demonstrated the significance of these 5 traits in plant breeding programs. Discriminant function of these 5 traits, particularly, the weight of the fruit, in case of the current outputs was employed as an all-inclusive parameter for pointing out landraces with the highest yield. 75% of variation in yield can be explained with this index, and the weight of fruit also has substantial relation with the total production (r=0.72**). This factor can be highly beneficial in case of future breeding program selections. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=melon" title="melon">melon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discriminant%20analysis" title=" discriminant analysis"> discriminant analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=genetic%20components" title=" genetic components"> genetic components</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=yield" title=" yield"> yield</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=selection" title=" selection"> selection</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48563/improvement-of-the-melon-cucumis-melo-l-through-genetic-gain-and-discriminant-function" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/48563.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">333</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">49</span> Forklift Allocation in Warehouse Operations with Restricted Halls</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mauricio%20Becerra%20Fern%C3%A1ndez">Mauricio Becerra Fernández</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olga%20Rosana%20Romero%20Quiroga"> Olga Rosana Romero Quiroga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elsa%20Cristina%20Gonz%C3%A1lez%20La%20Rotta"> Elsa Cristina González La Rotta</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The logistics facilities design and construction is one of the strategic decisions that critically affects the performance of the company, from the economic perspective and relationship with customers. The case study company is the Colombian logistic sector leader, with over 60 years of experience, with sales of about one hundred twenty million dollars at the end of 2014. The preliminary design for the warehouse layout and operation includes a customer that provides approximately 17% of the profits of the company, considering the possibility of moving two forklifts in the warehouse halls. Some changes were not consider in previous stages of design, operations required forklift with different characteristics, whose size, do not allow the circulation of more than a forklift at a time. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the impact of this restriction on the warehouse operation, so decision makers implement actions to achieve efficient operation. The problem is addressed by recognizing logistics processes, which develop in a warehouse, collection of processes information behavior, the simulation of the current situation using ProModel software, model validation, making adjustments required, experiments design, conclusions and recommendations for the company. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design" title="design">design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20events%20simulation" title=" discrete events simulation"> discrete events simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forklift%20allocation" title=" forklift allocation"> forklift allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=logistics%20facilities" title=" logistics facilities"> logistics facilities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=warehouse" title=" warehouse"> warehouse</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41694/forklift-allocation-in-warehouse-operations-with-restricted-halls" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41694.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">302</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">48</span> Epigenetic Mechanisms Involved in the Occurrence and Development of Infectious Diseases</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frank%20Boris%20Feutmba%20Keutchou">Frank Boris Feutmba Keutchou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saurelle%20Fabienne%20Bieghan%20Same"> Saurelle Fabienne Bieghan Same</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Verelle%20Elsa%20Fogang%20Pokam"> Verelle Elsa Fogang Pokam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Charles%20Ursula%20Metapi%20Meikeu"> Charles Ursula Metapi Meikeu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Angel%20Marilyne%20Messop%20Nzomo"> Angel Marilyne Messop Nzomo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ousman%20Tamgue"> Ousman Tamgue</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Infectious diseases are one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. These diseases are caused by micro-pathogenic organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi. Heritable changes in gene expression that do not involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence are referred to as epigenetics. Emerging evidence suggests that epigenetic mechanisms are important in the emergence and progression of infectious diseases. Pathogens can manipulate host epigenetic machinery to promote their own replication and evade immune responses. The Human Genome Project has provided new opportunities for developing better tools for the diagnosis and identification of target genes. Several epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA expression, have been shown to influence infectious disease outcomes. Understanding the epigenetic mechanisms underlying infectious diseases may result in the progression of new therapeutic approaches focusing on host-pathogen interactions. The goal of this study is to show how different infectious agents interact with host cells after infection. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=epigenetic" title="epigenetic">epigenetic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=infectious%20disease" title=" infectious disease"> infectious disease</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-pathogenic%20organism" title=" micro-pathogenic organism"> micro-pathogenic organism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phenotype" title=" phenotype"> phenotype</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164754/epigenetic-mechanisms-involved-in-the-occurrence-and-development-of-infectious-diseases" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164754.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">80</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">47</span> Methodology for Diagnosing Architecture Improvements in a Cancer Hospital in Brasilia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mariana%20Sabino">Mariana Sabino</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Janes%20Cleiton%20de%20Oliveira"> Janes Cleiton de Oliveira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carlos%20Luna%20de%20Melo"> Carlos Luna de Melo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a discussion about the importance and influence of the environment in the patient’s recovery process. Some users (employees and patients) were submitted to a questionnaire that helps to diagnoses the major problems of the hospital, specially related to comfort (aesthetic, thermal, acoustic, light, ergonomic), well-being, how does the flow of patients and employees works in the hospital and wayfinding as well. After a short literature review presenting the topic, the hospital will be characterized, showing photos, the projects available and describing the hospital as well (how many rooms, functions of each one, receptions, waiting rooms, between other things.), than the questionnaire will be applied to patients and to the employees. Lastly the results of the answers given will be analyzed in graphics, and it will help to identify which are the major improvements needed immediately. This paper has the intention to propose a methodology to diagnose architecture problems in a cancer hospital in Brasilia, Brazil, besides to open a space to hear the people that use the building to tell about their discomforts and perceptions of the environment, it also will give an opportunity to apply the possible improvements. It is important to tell that it will be considered if the hospital has a healing environment, and it will also be considered the ergonomic issues about comfort and the way the system of this particular hospital works in general. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cancer%20hospital" title="cancer hospital">cancer hospital</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=comfort" title=" comfort"> comfort</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diagnose" title=" diagnose"> diagnose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=healing%20environment" title=" healing environment"> healing environment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92384/methodology-for-diagnosing-architecture-improvements-in-a-cancer-hospital-in-brasilia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92384.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">241</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> Come Play with Me: An Exploration of Rough-and-Tumble Play Interactions in Australian Families</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Erin%20Louise%20Robinson">Erin Louise Robinson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emily%20Elsa%20Freeman"> Emily Elsa Freeman</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Rough-and-tumble play (RTP) is a physical and competitive type of play that parents engage in with their children. While past research has reported RTP to be the preferred play type for western fathers, the frequency of these interactions in Australian families have not been explored. With parental perceptions of play importance playing a major role in the frequency of activity engagement, the present study investigated how perceptions and parent gender impact on RTP play frequency. By utilising child gender in our approach, we also examined the historical trend of boys receiving more physical play interactions with their parents. Three hundred and seventy-nine respondents completed the study with their 0–10-year-old children. The results indicated that, in line with past research, parents engaged more frequently in RTP with their sons than their daughters. While, both mothers and fathers participated in RTP with their children, fathers perceived RTP to be of greater important to their child’s development than mothers did. Moreover, supporting previous findings, this more positive perception of the play was related to greater frequency of RTP in these father-child dyads. Although RTP literature remains heavily focussed on fathers, the fact that mothers are engaging in these interactions as well, establishes the need to explore maternal influences in future research. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parenting" title="parenting">parenting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=play" title=" play"> play</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=child%20development" title=" child development"> child development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=family" title=" family"> family</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Australia" title=" Australia"> Australia</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137017/come-play-with-me-an-exploration-of-rough-and-tumble-play-interactions-in-australian-families" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137017.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">196</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> Permanent Deformation Resistance of Asphalt Mixtures with Red Mud as a Filler</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liseane%20Padilha%20Thives">Liseane Padilha Thives</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mayara%20S.%20S.%20Lima"> Mayara S. The large quantity of red mud generated and inadequately disposed in the environment has motivated researchers to develop methods for reinsertion of this waste into the productive cycle. This work aims to evaluate the resistance to permanent deformation of dense asphalt mixtures with red mud filler. The red mud was characterized by tests of X-ray diffraction, fluorescence, specific mass, laser granulometry, pH and scanning electron microscopy. For the analysis of the influence of the quantity of red mud in the mechanical performance of asphalt mixtures, a total filler content of 7% was established. Asphalt mixtures with 3%, 5% and 7% red mud were produced. A conventional mixture with 7% stone powder filler was used as reference. The asphalt mixtures were evaluated for performance to permanent deformation in the French Rutting Tester (FRT) traffic simulator. The mixture with 5% red mud presented greater resistance to permanent deformation with rutting depth at 30,000 cycles of 3.50%. The asphalt mixtures with red mud presented better performance, with reduction of the rutting of 12.63 to 42.62% in relation to the reference mixture. This study confirmed the viability of reinserting the red mud in the production chain and possible usage in the construction industry. The red mud as filler in asphalt mixtures is a reuse option of this waste and mitigation of the disposal problems, as well as being an environmentally friendly alternative. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asphalt%20mixtures" title="asphalt mixtures">asphalt mixtures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=permanent%20deformation" title=" permanent deformation"> permanent deformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=red%20mud" title=" red mud"> red mud</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pavements" title=" pavements"> pavements</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72325/permanent-deformation-resistance-of-asphalt-mixtures-with-red-mud-as-a-filler" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72325.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">289</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">44</span> A New Approach to Increase Consumer Understanding of Meal’s Quality – Food Focus Instead of Nutrient Focus</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elsa%20Lamy">Elsa Lamy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mar%C3%ADlia%20Prada"> Marília Prada</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ada%20Rocha"> Ada Rocha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cl%C3%A1udia%20Viegas"> Cláudia Viegas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The traditional and widely used nutrition-focused approach to communicate with consumers is reductionist and makes it difficult for consumers to assess their food intake. Without sufficient nutrition knowledge and understanding, it would be difficult to choose a healthful diet based only on nutritional recommendations. This study aimed to evaluate the understanding of how food/nutritional information is presented in menus to Portuguese consumers, comparing the nutrient-focused approach (currently used Nutrition Declaration) and the new food-focused approach (the infographic). For data collection, a questionnaire was distributed online using social media channels. A main effect of format on ratings of meal balance and completeness (Fbalance(1,79) = 18.26, p < .001, ηp2 = .188; Fcompleteness(1,67) = 27.18, p < .001, ηp2 = .289). Overall, dishes paired with the nutritional information were rated as more balanced (Mbalance= 3.70, SE = .11; Mcompleteness = 4.00, SE = .14) than meals with the infographic representation (Mbalance = 3.14, SE = .11; Mcompleteness = 3.29, SE = .13). We also observed a main effect of the meal, F(3,237) = 48.90, p < .001, ηp2 = .382, such that M1 and M2 were perceived as less balanced than the M3 and M4, all p < .001. The use of a food-focused approach (infographic) helped participants identify the lack of balance in the less healthful meals (dishes M1 and M2), allowing for a better understanding of meals' compliance with recommendations contributing to better food choices and a healthier lifestyle. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=food%20labelling" title="food labelling">food labelling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=food%20and%20nutritional%20recommendations" title=" food and nutritional recommendations"> food and nutritional recommendations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=infographics" title=" infographics"> infographics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=portions%20based%20information" title=" portions based information"> portions based information</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164297/a-new-approach-to-increase-consumer-understanding-of-meals-quality-food-focus-instead-of-nutrient-focus" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164297.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">79</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">43</span> Antifungal Susceptibility of Yeasts Isolated from Clinical Samples from a Tertiary Hospital from State of Puebla</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ricardo%20Munguia-Perez">Ricardo Munguia-Perez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nayeli%20Remigio-Alvarado"> Nayeli Remigio-Alvarado</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.Miriam%20Hernandez-Arroyo"> M.Miriam Hernandez-Arroyo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elsa%20Casta%C3%B1eda-Roldan"> Elsa Castañeda-Roldan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fungi have emerged as important pathogens causing morbidity and mortality mainly in immunosuppressed, malnourished and elderly patients. On the other hand, working with teams distributed in different locations also raises new challenges. In this sense, automated processes can help to improve the quality of process execution. Therefore, this work presents the development of a tool called TSS Script that automates the sample preparation process for carrier requirements validation tests. The objective of the work is to obtain significant gains in execution time and reducing errors in scenario preparation. To estimate the gains over time, the executions performed in an automated and manual way were timed. In addition, a questionnaire-based survey was developed to discover new requirements and improvements to include in this automated support. The results show an average gain of 46.67% of the total hours worked, referring to sample preparation. The use of the tool avoids human errors, and for this reason, it adds greater quality and speed to the process. Another relevant factor is the fact that the tester can perform other activities in parallel with sample preparation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Android" title="Android">Android</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GSD" title=" GSD"> GSD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=automated%20testing%20tool" title=" automated testing tool"> automated testing tool</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20products" title=" mobile products"> mobile products</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/139796/true-single-sku-script-applying-the-automated-test-to-set-software-properties-in-a-global-software-development-environment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/139796.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">317</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">41</span> Video Object Segmentation for Automatic Image Annotation of Ethernet Connectors with Environment Mapping and 3D Projection</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marrone%20Silverio%20Melo%20Dantas%20Pedro%20Henrique%20Dreyer">Marrone Silverio Melo Dantas Pedro Henrique Dreyer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gabriel%20Fonseca%20Reis%20de%20Souza"> Gabriel Fonseca Reis de Souza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniel%20Bezerra"> Daniel Bezerra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ricardo%20Souza"> Ricardo Souza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Lins"> Silvia Lins</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Judith%20Kelner"> Judith Kelner</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Djamel%20Fawzi%20Hadj%20Sadok"> Djamel Fawzi Hadj Sadok</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The creation of a dataset is time-consuming and often discourages researchers from pursuing their goals. To overcome this problem, we present and discuss two solutions adopted for the automation of this process. Both optimize valuable user time and resources and support video object segmentation with object tracking and 3D projection. In our scenario, we acquire images from a moving robotic arm and, for each approach, generate distinct annotated datasets. We evaluated the precision of the annotations by comparing these with a manually annotated dataset, as well as the efficiency in the context of detection and classification problems. For detection support, we used YOLO and obtained for the projection dataset an F1-Score, accuracy, and mAP values of 0.846, 0.924, and 0.875, respectively. Concerning the tracking dataset, we achieved an F1-Score of 0.861, an accuracy of 0.932, whereas mAP reached 0.894. In order to evaluate the quality of the annotated images used for classification problems, we employed deep learning architectures. We adopted metrics accuracy and F1-Score, for VGG, DenseNet, MobileNet, Inception, and ResNet. The VGG architecture outperformed the others for both projection and tracking datasets. It reached an accuracy and F1-score of 0.997 and 0.993, respectively. Similarly, for the tracking dataset, it achieved an accuracy of 0.991 and an F1-Score of 0.981. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RJ45" title="RJ45">RJ45</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=automatic%20annotation" title=" automatic annotation"> automatic annotation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=object%20tracking" title=" object tracking"> object tracking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20projection" title=" 3D projection"> 3D projection</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130540/video-object-segmentation-for-automatic-image-annotation-of-ethernet-connectors-with-environment-mapping-and-3d-projection" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130540.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">167</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> Anti-Angiogenic Effects of the Macrovipera lebetina obtusa Snake Crude Venom and Obtustatin</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Narine%20Ghazaryan">Narine Ghazaryan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joana%20Catarina%20Macedo"> Joana Catarina Macedo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Vaz"> Sara Vaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naira%20Ayvazyan"> Naira Ayvazyan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elsa%20Logarinho"> Elsa Logarinho</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Macrovipera lebetina obtusa (MLO) is a poisonous snake in Armenia. Obtustatin represents the shortest known monomeric disintegrin, isolated from the snake venom of MLO, and is known to specifically inhibit α1β1 integrin. Its oncostatic effect is due to the inhibition of angiogenesis, which likely arises from α1β1 integrin inhibition in the endothelial cells. To explore the therapeutic potential of the MLO snake venom and obtustatin, we studied activity of obtustatin and MLO venom in vitro, by testing their efficacy in human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HMVEC-D) and in vivo, using chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane assay (CAM assay). Our in vitro results showed that obtustatin in comparison with MLO venom did not exhibit cytotoxic activity in HMVEC-D cells in comparison to MLO venom. But in vivo results have shown that 4µg /embryo (90 µM) of obtustatin inhibited angiogenesis induced by FGF2 by 17% while MLO snake venom induced 22% reduction of the angiogenic index. The concentration of obtustatin in the crude MLO venom was 0.3 nM, which is 300.000 times less than the concentration of the obtustatin itself. Given this enormous difference in concentration, it is likely that some components of the crude venom contribute to the observed anti-angiogenic effect. Hypotheses will be ascertained to justify this action: components in the MLO venom may increase obtustatin efficacy or have independent but synergic anti-angiogenic activities. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=angiogenesis" title="angiogenesis">angiogenesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alpa1%20beta%201%20integrin" title=" alpa1 beta 1 integrin"> alpa1 beta 1 integrin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Macrovipera%20lebetina%20obtusa" title=" Macrovipera lebetina obtusa"> Macrovipera lebetina obtusa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=obtustatin" title=" obtustatin"> obtustatin</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85110/anti-angiogenic-effects-of-the-macrovipera-lebetina-obtusa-snake-crude-venom-and-obtustatin" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85110.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">196</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Investigating the Environmental Impact of Additive Manufacturing Compared to Conventional Manufacturing through Life Cycle Assessment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gustavo%20Menezes%20De%20Souza%20Melo">Gustavo Menezes De Souza Melo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arnaud%20Heitz"> Arnaud Heitz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johannes%20Henrich%20Schleifenbaum"> Johannes Henrich Schleifenbaum</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Additive manufacturing is a growing market that is taking over in many industries as it offers numerous advantages like new design possibilities, weight-saving solutions, ease of manufacture, and simplification of assemblies. These are all unquestionable technical or financial assets. As to the environmental aspect, additive manufacturing is often discussed whether it is the best solution to decarbonize our industries or if conventional manufacturing remains cleaner. This work presents a life cycle assessment (LCA) comparison based on the technological case of a motorbike swing-arm. We compare the original equipment manufacturer part made with conventional manufacturing (CM) methods to an additive manufacturing (AM) version printed using the laser powder bed fusion process. The AM version has been modified and optimized to achieve better dynamic performance without any regard to weight saving. Lightweight not being a priority in the creation of the 3D printed part brings us a unique perspective in this study. To achieve the LCA, we are using the open-source life cycle, and sustainability software OpenLCA combined with the ReCiPe 2016 at midpoint and endpoint level method. This allows the calculation and the presentation of the results through indicators such as global warming, water use, resource scarcity, etc. The results are then showing the relative impact of the AM version compared to the CM one and give us a key to understand and answer questions about the environmental sustainability of additive manufacturing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=additive%20manufacturing" title="additive manufacturing">additive manufacturing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20impact" title=" environmental impact"> environmental impact</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=life%20cycle%20assessment" title=" life cycle assessment"> life cycle assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=laser%20powder%20bed%20fusion" title=" laser powder bed fusion"> laser powder bed fusion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/139498/investigating-the-environmental-impact-of-additive-manufacturing-compared-to-conventional-manufacturing-through-life-cycle-assessment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/139498.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">263</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">38</span> Profile and Care of Stroke Patients in Angola: Preliminary Results of a Longitudinal Two-Center Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=L.%20Jos%C3%A9">L. Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted at two Health centers, from March to November 2023, enrolling stroke patients. Data was gathered using a survey created by the researchers and validated by a health panel of experts from Angola. The analysis focused on demographic and stroke characteristics, as well as the care provided. Ethical approval and informed consent were obtained. Results: Preliminary results of a total of 186 patients are described, 122 from a Central Acute Care Hospital, with a mean age of 51.3±14.35 years old, a BMI of 26.7±4.15 kg/m2, 41% male, and 64 patients from a Rehabilitation Center, with 55.6±11.55 years old, a BMI of 27.0±3.8 kg/m2, 53% male. Ischemic stroke was reported as the most representative type in both centers (71.3% and 70.3%, respectively), though 100% of patients had no imaging diagnosis confirmation, neither data about the subtype was given. For patients admitted to the Hospital, discharge occurred before rehabilitation, and no follow-up was possible. No rehabilitation care was delivered in the first 7 days after the stroke. In the Rehabilitation Center, patient’s rehabilitation started in the late subacute phase, after a mean of 171.8±11.5 days. Conclusions: Stroke diagnosis lacks imaging confirmation, which is decisive for proper treatment, and rehabilitation starts during the late subacute phase, which is too late considering the international guidelines and the best window of opportunity for neuroplasticity and recovery. These results highlight the urgent need for the definition of Stroke-directed Health Care Policies in Angola. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
