From their home base in Lourinh茫, the group was just a car ride away from some of the best single pitch sport climbing that Europe has to offer. From the sharp, sustained limestone climbing of Montejunto to the seaside crag of Cascais, there was an incredible variety of terrain to climb. During their rest days, the group experienced the new year celebrations hosted in the streets of Lisbon and got the chance to experience the local culture and food in some of the cities and towns dotted around the country. This trip marks the 5th international trip led by HMC, and is certainly one of the biggest trips that the club has ever led. Mount Lemmon had some super fun climbing in a unique desert mountain range, with both single and multi pitch routes. Unfortunately, our time climbing there was cut short as the last day the LA fires made the air in Tucson hazardous to inhale. On our drive to Vegas we made a detour at the breathtaking Grand Canyon, where we were fortunate enough to get free entry for Jimmy Carter鈥檚 day of mourning. Although Arizona had its fair share of fun climbing, the really good stuff was certainly in Vegas. With quality single pitch and multipitch up to seven pitches, our group really hit its stride here. When we weren鈥檛 climbing our hardest we had fun in the hot tub of our Airbnb, going to the Rainforest Cafe on the Vegas Strip, and even doing a day trip to Zion. At Zion we did the iconic Angel鈥檚 Landing hike, where we were greeted at the top by two magnificent California Condors. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Vegas and return to the real world eventually. We will be hiking around 17 miles throughout the valley and taking in the sights of early Spring. There are no ratings required for this trip; however, it will be cold with temperatures ranging from mid-20s to mid-40s so we recommend you have some previous experience as it will be more challenging in the cold.</b></p> <p dir="ltr"><b>MANDATORY pre-trip meeting Tuesday, March 11th at 8 PM (after the general meeting). Breezeway will begin offering these classes over the course of two days for $150 in late May.</p> <p dir="ltr">聽</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Times</strong></p> <p>Regardless of pool location, the students always start Saturday morning at the dive shop at 8am.聽We finish Saturday around 4pm and leave the gear overnight at the pool.聽聽 We return to the pool the next day ( Sunday ) morning to finish pool lessons.聽 When the pool is done, we go back to the dive shop on Sunday afternoon to finalize paperwork.聽 Likely to be done about 4pm on Sunday.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Course Overview</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">The Fall Hoofer Open Water SCUBA course consists of a self-paced eLearning web classroom where students learn about diving physiology and safety and the equipment and skills needed by every diver. This is followed by two indoor swimming pool sessions where students are able to apply their new knowledge in a controlled environment. Students must complete the eLearning prior to the pool sessions (no exceptions). Students will receive the link to sign up for our eLearning after signing up for the course. Once the eLearning and the pool training sessions are completed, each student will complete two open water dives over two days.聽</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Prerequisites and Enrollment Conditions</strong></p> <p dir="ltr">You must finish the eLearning course, pool sessions, and open water dives. eLearning must be completed prior to the first pool session. No make-up sessions can be offered. If during the course under special circumstances you find out you cannot attend one of the dates, please let us know ASAP, so we can work something out.聽</p> <p dir="ltr">We follow the PADI health requirements, a copy of all the medical conditions that may require a physician's approval to be cleared for diving will need to be filled out under the PADI medical form. Note, that if you have one of these conditions, it does not necessarily bar you from diving. It does mean we would need a doctor to sign off that you are medically cleared for diving. If you do answer yes to any of the questions found on the form, please seek physician approval and provide the form to the event leader or your instructor.
