It is significant in biblical history as the hometown of the prophet Jeremiah (<a href="/jeremiah/1.htm">Jeremiah 1:1</a>). The city is mentioned in various contexts, including as a place of refuge and a site of prophetic activity. Anathoth's association with the priestly class underscores its religious importance. Archaeologically, it is identified with the modern village of Anata, located northeast of Jerusalem.
