One of my parents was Sunni and the other Shia, my husband was Sunni I am Shia. That we lived together peacably was true under the Ottomans, it was true under the British Occupation, it was true under the Republic, it was true under Saddam, then you Brits and your American buddies came along and deliberately wrecked every part of our society. Is that I am an Iraki, living in Irak, practising medicine saving children’s lives as I’ve done for decades. I’ve survived being arrested and subjected to a brutal interrogation by Saddam’s men. Having my clinic bombed as part of what the Americans called “shock and awe” and having the remainder trashed and my patients terrorised by British soldiers. Then there are the numerous threats by death squads, ditto assassination attempts, ditto having my home firebombed repeatedly and members of my family killed.
