SINGERS!</h1> <p> </p> <h2>Do you like to sing?</h2> <p> </p> <p>If so, we’d love to meet you! We are a truly happy ‘family’ of around 25 singers from 16 nationalities who range in age from 27 to 80! There’s no need to be able to read music or to have sung in a choir before, though obviously that is always an advantage. We provide all Singers with sheet music and lyrics plus a CD to practice from so, provided you’ve got a good ear for picking up tunes, you’ll do just fine. (There is a seasonal subscription of 20€ which goes towards paying our director and pianist and also the cost of uniforms, music and CDs.) Right now we’re particularly keen to welcome male singers and women with high soprano voices, for, to create a truly balanced choir, we need more of both! (But of course everyone is welcome.)</p> <p> </p> <p>We’ve got a particularly exciting programme planned for this season. We have already sung at the Andorra Park Hotel for the inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of Estonia. Learning their national anthem was a challenge but what a great tune!</p> <p> </p> <p>Next, on 12th May, we are taking part in an Aplec (gathering) of 11 choirs from Andorra and north Catalunia to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Orfeó Andorrà choir. We will take turns singing round various squares in Andorra la Vella and then, at 6pm, we will join together as one huge choir to sing in the Centre de Congressos. (Entrance is free and everyone is welcome.)</p> <p> </p> <p>On Saturday, 25th May we will be taking part in the International Day of Cultural Diversity. We’ll join the opening street procession around part of Andorra la Vella where we also have a stand in the Plaça de les Arcades. Then, at 8.15 pm, we will be giving a joint concert with the Orfeó Andorrà at Sant Esteve Church.</p> <p> </p> <p>Next on the agenda, on Sunday 9th June, we will be participating in the all day Festa de la Música taking place, for the second year running, in the parishes of Ordino and La Massana. It is organised by one of our members in collaboration with the two parishes. (Last year it featured 24 different acts.)</p> <p> </p> <p>After that we are hoping to organise an exchange with a choir from the port of Badelona with the idea that we will sing aboard a sail-training ship.</p> <p> </p> <p>The final event on our summer calendar will be the most important of the season, our fund raising, “At Home with the Singers”, when we let our hair down, offer drinks (traditionally provided by the Club) followed by an end of season concert. We’ve got a great programme planned, ranging from the Beatle’s <i>Yellow Submarine </i>(sung in Catalan!), John Rutter’s arrangement of the gospel song <i>Heavenly Aeroplane </i>through popular songs such as <i>Edelweiss</i> to Dvorak’s haunting <i>Kyrie</i>.</p> <p> </p> <p>This season we again have the highly talented young American, Robert Bailey, directing and training us while the Andorran, Marina Vallcorba, accompanies us for concerts. Choir practices are held in Andorra la Vella on Thursdays from 8.30pm to 10.30pm (with extra practices on Tuesdays as concerts approach.) The rehearsals are conducted in English/Catalan so a great opportunity to pick up some Catalan on the way. Usually about half the songs are in English and the rest in other languages.</p> <p>Why not come along to one of our rehearsals and see if you’d like to join us?
