under the civil society monitoring initiative. The objective of this brief is to conduct a concise review of the progress made by the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) in fulfilling its mandated responsibilities and to identify areas for improvement that can enhance its effectiveness in ensuring safety monitoring. RSC was set up to act as the national initiative that would implement the programme of the former Bangladesh Accord, now International Accord. The brief identifies the scope for further improvement in RSC’s operational and institutional performances. These areas include (a) its inspection effectiveness, coverage, reporting, and prioritising mechanism; (b) its management of remediation and escalation protocols; (c) the effectiveness and coverage of the training it provides; and (d) the pace of its OSH-related complaint-resolving mechanism.
