islet that now belongs to Egypt, about 250 m ( 820 ft) to the east to the coast of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinai_Peninsula">Sinai Peninsula</a> in the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Aqaba">Gulf of Eilat</a> (or Aqaba), at the northern end of the Red Sea, and 13 km (8.1 mi) southwest of modern <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eilat">Eilat</a> (Israel). It is made of solid granite. Some scholars identify this island port with the biblical <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezion-Geber">Ezion-Geber</a>. It was built between 1960 and 1970. The dam became a key government target after the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_revolution_of_1952">Egyptian Revolution of 1952</a> and has had a significant effect on Egypt's economy and culture. The dimensions of the work are: 111 m (364 ft) high, 3,830 m (12,570 ft) long, and 980 m (3,220 ft) wide at the base. The reservoir, called <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Nasser">Lake Nasser</a>, is 500 km (310 miles) long and 35 km (22 miles) at its widest, covering an area of 5,250 km2 (2,030 square miles). A part of the lake is located on the territory of Sudan, where it is called Lake Nubia. Lake Nasser flooded much of lower <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nubia">Nubia</a> and between 100,000 and 120,000 people were resettled in Sudan and Egypt. 22 monuments and architectural complexes that were threatened by the lake, including the temples of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Simbel">Abu Simbel</a>, were preserved by moving them to the banks as part of the <a href="https://whc.unesco.org/en/activities/172/">UNESCO Nubia Campaign</a>. It is currently a self-governed Palestinian territory that, together with the West Bank, makes up the State of Palestine governed by the Palestinian National Authority. After the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, during the First World War, France and Great Britain divided up the territory, leaving the area of  Palestine undefined; and between 1920 and 1948 the strip was part of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandatory_Palestine">British Mandate for Palestine</a>. During the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948_Arab%E2%80%93Israeli_War">1948 Arab-Israeli war</a>, the territory was occupied by the Egyptian army, and on September 22, 1948 the Government of all Palestinians was proclaimed in Gaza by the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_League">Arab League</a>. Its length is 163,30 km (120.11 mi) between Port Sa铆d (on the Mediterranean coast) and Suez (on the Red Sea coast).
