<span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>For I have not dwelt<MH3427> in a house<MH1004> since<MH4480> the day<MH3117> I brought<MH5927> up<MH5927> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> from Egypt<MH4714>, even to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>; rather, I have been<MH1961> moving<MH1980> about<MH1980> in a tent<MH168>, that is, in a dwelling<MH4908> place<MH4908>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Wherever<MH3605, 834> I have gone<MH1980> with all<MH3605> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, did I speak<MH1696> a word<MH1697> with one<MH259> of the tribes<MH7626> of Israel<MH3478>, whom<MH834> I commanded<MH6680> to shepherd<MH7462a> My people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478>, saying<MH559>, ‘Why<MH4100> have you not built<MH1129> Me a house<MH1004> of cedar<MH730>?’”’ <p class="hdg">God’s Covenant with David</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> then, this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> you shall say<MH559> to My servant<MH5650> David<MH1732>: ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> says<MH559>: “I Myself<MH589> took<MH3947> you from the pasture<MH5116a>, from following<MH310> the sheep<MH6629>, to be leader<MH5057> over<MH5921> My people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And I have been<MH1961> with you wherever<MH3605, 834> you have gone<MH1980>, and have eliminated<MH3772> all<MH3605> your enemies<MH340> from you; I will also make<MH6213a> a great<MH1419> name<MH8034> for you, like the names<MH8034> of the great<MH1419> men<MH1419> who<MH834> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>are on the earth<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And I will establish<MH7760> a place<MH4725> for My people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478>, and will plant<MH5193> them, so that they may live<MH7931> in<MH7931> their own place<MH8478> and not be disturbed<MH7264> again<MH5750>, nor<MH3808> will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>malicious<MH5767b> people<MH1121> oppress<MH6031a> them anymore<MH3254> as previously<MH7223>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>even from the day<MH3117> that I appointed<MH6680> judges<MH8199> over<MH5921> My people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478>; and I will give<MH5117> you rest<MH5117> from all<MH3605> your enemies<MH340>. The LORD<MH3068> also declares<MH5046> to you that the LORD<MH3068> will make<MH6213a> a house<MH1004> for you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>When<MH3588> your days<MH3117> are finished<MH4390> and you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>lie<MH7901> down<MH7901> with your fathers<MH1>, I will raise<MH6965> up<MH6965> your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>descendant<MH2233> after<MH310> you, who<MH834> will come<MH3318> from <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>you, and I will establish<MH3559> his kingdom<MH4467>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>He shall build<MH1129> a house<MH1004> for My name<MH8034>, and I will establish<MH3559> the throne<MH3678> of his kingdom<MH4467> forever<MH5704, 5769>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>I will be a father<MH1> to him and he will be a son<MH1121> to Me; when<MH834> he does<MH5753b> wrong<MH5753b>, I will discipline<MH3198> him with a rod<MH7626> of men<MH376> and with strokes<MH5061> of sons<MH1121> of mankind<MH120>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>but My favor<MH2617a> shall not depart<MH5493> from him, as I took<MH5493> <i>it</i> away<MH5493> from Saul<MH7586>, whom<MH834> I removed<MH5493> from you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Your house<MH1004> and your kingdom<MH4467> shall endure<MH539> before<MH6440> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Me forever<MH5704, 5769>; your throne<MH3678> shall be established<MH3559> forever<MH5704, 5769>.”’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>In accordance with all<MH3605> these<MH428> words<MH1697> and all<MH3605> of this<MH2088> vision<MH2384>, so<MH3651> Nathan<MH5416> spoke<MH1696> to David<MH1732>. <p class="hdg">David’s Prayer</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then David<MH1732> the king<MH4428> came<MH935> in<MH935> and sat<MH3427> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>, and he said<MH559>, “Who<MH4310> <i>am</i> I, Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>GOD<MH3068>, and who<MH4310> <i>are the members of</i> my household<MH1004>, that You have brought<MH935> me this<MH1988> far<MH1988>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And yet<MH5750> this<MH2088> was<MH6994> insignificant<MH6994> in Your eyes<MH5869>, Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, for You have spoken<MH1696> also<MH1571> of the house<MH1004> of Your servant<MH5650> regarding the distant<MH7350> future<MH7350>. And this<MH2088> is the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>custom<MH8451> of mankind<MH120>, Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Again<MH3254> what<MH4100> more<MH5750> can David<MH1732> say<MH1696> to You? For You know<MH3045> Your servant<MH5650>, Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>For the sake<MH5668> of Your word<MH1697>, and according to Your heart<MH3820>, You have done<MH6213a> all<MH3605> this<MH2088> greatness<MH1420>, to let Your servant<MH5650> know<MH3045>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>For<MH5921> this<MH5921, 3651> reason<MH5921, 3651> You are<MH1431> great<MH1431>, Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>; for there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> one<MH369> like<MH3644> You, and there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> God<MH430> except<MH2108> You, according to all<MH3605> that we have heard<MH8085> with our ears<MH241>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And what<MH4310> one<MH259> nation<MH1471> on the earth<MH776> is like Your people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478>, whom<MH834> God<MH430> went<MH1980> to redeem<MH6299> for Himself as a people<MH5971a>, and to make<MH7760> a name<MH8034> for Himself, and to do<MH6213a> a great<MH1420> thing<MH1420> for You and awesome<MH3372a> things<MH3372a> for Your land<MH776>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>because<MH4480, 6440> of Your people<MH5971a> whom<MH834> You have redeemed<MH6299> for Yourself from Egypt<MH4714>, <i>from other</i> nations<MH1471> and their gods<MH430>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>For You have established<MH3559> for Yourself Your people<MH5971a> Israel<MH3478> as Your <i>own</i> people<MH5971a> forever<MH5704, 5769>, and You, LORD<MH3068>, have become<MH1961> their God<MH430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> then, LORD<MH3068> God<MH430>, the word<MH1697> that You have spoken<MH1696> about<MH5921> Your servant<MH5650> and his house<MH1004>, confirm<MH6965> <i>it</i> forever<MH5704, 5769>, and do<MH6213a> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> You have spoken<MH1696>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>so that Your name<MH8034> may be<MH1431> great<MH1431> forever<MH5704, 5769>, by saying<MH559>, ‘The LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> <i>is</i> God<MH430> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478>’; and may the house<MH1004> of Your servant<MH5650> David<MH1732> be established<MH3559> before<MH6440> You. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>For You, LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478>, have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>given<MH1540> a revelation<MH1540, 241> to Your servant<MH5650>, saying<MH559>, ‘I will build<MH1129> you a house<MH1004>’; therefore<MH5921, 3651> Your servant<MH5650> has found<MH4672> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>courage<MH3820> to pray<MH6419> this<MH2088> prayer<MH8605> to You. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> then, Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, You are God<MH430>, and Your words<MH1697> are truth<MH571>; and You have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>promised<MH1696> this<MH2088> good<MH2899b> thing<MH2899b> to Your servant<MH5650>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_samuel/7-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And now<MH6258>, may <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>it please<MH2974> You to bless<MH1288> the house<MH1004> of Your servant<MH5650>, so that it may continue<MH1961> forever<MH5769> before<MH6440> You.
