As I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “I certainly<MH518> will not be inquired<MH1875> of by you.”’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Will you judge<MH8199> them, will you judge<MH8199> <i>them,</i> son<MH1121> of man<MH120>? Make known<MH3045> to them the abominations<MH8441> of their fathers<MH1>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>and say<MH559> to them, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “On the day<MH3117> when I chose<MH977> Israel<MH3478> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>swore<MH5375, 3027> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>descendants<MH2233> of the house<MH1004> of Jacob<MH3290> and made<MH3045> Myself known<MH3045> to them in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, when I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>swore<MH5375, 3027> to them, saying<MH559>, I am the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>on that day<MH3117> I swore<MH5375, 3027> to them, to bring<MH3318> them out<MH3318> from the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714> into a land<MH776> that I had <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>selected<MH8446> for them, flowing<MH2100> with milk<MH2461> and honey<MH1706>, which<MH1931> is the glory<MH6643a> of all<MH3605> the lands<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And I said<MH559> to them, ‘Throw<MH7993> away<MH7993>, each<MH376> of you, the detestable<MH8251> things<MH8251> of his eyes<MH5869>, and do not defile<MH2930> yourselves with the idols<MH1544> of Egypt<MH4714>; I am the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>But they rebelled<MH4784> against Me and were<MH14> not willing<MH14> to listen<MH8085> to Me; they did not throw<MH7993> away<MH7993>, each<MH376> of them, the detestable<MH8251> things<MH8251> of their eyes<MH5869>, nor<MH3808> did they abandon<MH5800a> the idols<MH1544> of Egypt<MH4714>. <p class="paragraph"> “Then I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>resolved<MH559> to pour<MH8210> out<MH8210> My wrath<MH2534> on them, to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>use<MH3615> up<MH3615> My anger<MH639> against them in the midst<MH8432> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>But I acted<MH6213a> for the sake<MH4616> of My name<MH8034>, that it would not be defiled<MH2490c> in the sight<MH5869> of the nations<MH1471> among<MH8432> whom<MH834> they <i>lived,</i> in whose<MH834> sight<MH5869> I made<MH3045> Myself known<MH3045> to them by bringing<MH3318> them out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>So I took<MH3318> them out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714> and brought<MH935> them into the wilderness<MH4057b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>I gave<MH5414> them My statutes<MH2708> and informed<MH3045> them of My ordinances<MH4941>, which<MH834>, <i>if</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>a person<MH120> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>follows<MH6213a> them, then he will live<MH2421a> by them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Also<MH1571> I gave<MH5414> them My Sabbaths<MH7676> to be a sign<MH226> between<MH996> Me and them, so that they might know<MH3045> that I am the LORD<MH3068> who sanctifies<MH6942> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> rebelled<MH4784> against Me in the wilderness<MH4057b>. They did not walk<MH1980> in My statutes<MH2708> and they rejected<MH3988a> My ordinances<MH4941>, which<MH834>, <i>if</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>a person<MH120> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>follows<MH6213a> them, then he will live<MH2421a> by them; and they greatly<MH3966> profaned<MH2490c> My Sabbaths<MH7676>. Then I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>resolved<MH559> to pour<MH8210> out<MH8210> My wrath<MH2534> on them in the wilderness<MH4057b>, to annihilate<MH3615> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But I acted<MH6213a> for the sake<MH4616> of My name<MH8034>, so that it would not be defiled<MH2490c> before the eyes<MH5869> of the nations<MH1471>, before whose<MH834> eyes<MH5869> I had brought<MH3318> them out<MH3318>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Also<MH1571> I swore<MH5375, 3027> to them in the wilderness<MH4057b> that I would not bring<MH935> them into the land<MH776> which<MH834> I had given<MH5414> <i>them,</i> flowing<MH2100> with milk<MH2461> and honey<MH1706>, which<MH1931> is the glory<MH6643a> of all<MH3605> the lands<MH776>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>because<MH3282> they rejected<MH3988a> My ordinances<MH4941>, and as for My statutes<MH2708>, they did not walk<MH1980> in them; they also profaned<MH2490c> My Sabbaths<MH7676>, because<MH3588> their heart<MH3820> continually followed<MH1980, 310> their idols<MH1544>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Yet My eye<MH5869> spared<MH2347> them rather<MH4480> than<MH4480> destroying<MH7843> them, and I did not bring<MH6213a> about<MH6213a> their annihilation<MH3617> in the wilderness<MH4057b>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>“Instead, I said<MH559> to their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>children<MH1121> in the wilderness<MH4057b>, ‘Do not walk<MH1980> in the statutes<MH2706> of your fathers<MH1> or keep<MH8104> their ordinances<MH4941> or defile<MH2930> yourselves with their idols<MH1544>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>I am the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>; walk<MH1980> in My statutes<MH2708> and keep<MH8104> My ordinances<MH4941> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>follow<MH6213a> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Sanctify<MH6942> My Sabbaths<MH7676>; and they shall be a sign<MH226> between<MH996> Me and you, so that you may know<MH3045> that I am the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But the children<MH1121> rebelled<MH4784> against Me; they did not walk<MH1980> in My statutes<MH2708>, nor<MH3808> were<MH8104> they careful<MH8104> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>follow<MH6213a> My ordinances<MH4941> which<MH834>, <i>if</i> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>a person<MH120> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>follows<MH6213a> them, then he will live<MH2421a> by them; they profaned<MH2490c> My Sabbaths<MH7676>. So I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>resolved<MH559> to pour<MH8210> out<MH8210> My wrath<MH2534> on them, to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>use<MH3615> up<MH3615> My anger<MH639> against them in the wilderness<MH4057b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But I withdrew<MH7725> My hand<MH3027> and acted<MH6213a> for the sake<MH4616> of My name<MH8034>, so that it would not be defiled<MH2490c> in the sight<MH5869> of the nations<MH1471> in whose<MH834> sight<MH5869> I had brought<MH3318> them out<MH3318>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Also<MH1571> I swore<MH5375, 3027> to them in the wilderness<MH4057b> that I would scatter<MH6327a> them among the nations<MH1471> and disperse<MH2219> them among the lands<MH776>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>because<MH3282> they had not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>complied<MH6213a> with<MH6213a> My ordinances<MH4941>, but had rejected<MH3988a> My statutes<MH2708> and had profaned<MH2490c> My Sabbaths<MH7676>, and their eyes<MH5869> were <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>on the idols<MH1544> of their fathers<MH1>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>I also<MH1571> gave<MH5414> them statutes<MH2706> that were not good<MH2896a>, and ordinances<MH4941> by which they could not live<MH2421a>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>and I pronounced<MH2930> them unclean<MH2930> because of their gifts<MH4979>, in that they made all<MH3605> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>their firstborn<MH1060, 7358> pass<MH5674a> through<MH5674a> <i>the fire</i> so<MH4616> that<MH4616> I might make<MH8074> them desolate<MH8074>, in<MH4616> order<MH4616> that<MH4616> they might know<MH3045> that I am the LORD<MH3068>.”’ <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>“Therefore<MH3651> speak<MH1696> to the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>, son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, and say<MH559> to them, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “Again<MH5750>, in this<MH2088> your fathers<MH1> have blasphemed<MH1442> Me by being<MH4603> disloyal<MH4603> to Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>When I had brought<MH935> them into the land<MH776> which<MH834> I swore<MH5375, 3027> to give<MH5414> to them, then they saw<MH7200> every<MH3605> high<MH7311> hill<MH1389> and every<MH3605> tree<MH6086> thick<MH5687> with branches<MH5687>, and there<MH8033> they offered<MH2076> their sacrifices<MH2077> and there<MH8033> they presented<MH5414> the provocation<MH3708a> of their offering<MH7133a>. There<MH8033> also they made<MH7760> their soothing<MH5207> aroma<MH7381b> and there<MH8033> they poured<MH5258a> out<MH5258a> their drink<MH5262a> offerings<MH5262a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Then I said<MH559> to them, ‘What<MH4100> is the high<MH1116> place<MH1116> to which<MH834> you go<MH935>?’ So its name<MH8034> is called<MH7121> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>Bamah<MH1117> to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>.”’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651>, say<MH559> to the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “Will you defile<MH2930> yourselves in the way<MH1870> of your fathers<MH1> and adulterously<MH2181> pursue<MH2181, 310> their detestable<MH8251> things<MH8251>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>when you offer<MH5375> your gifts<MH4979>, when you make your sons<MH1121> pass<MH5674a> through the fire<MH784>, you are defiling<MH2930> yourselves with all<MH3605> your idols<MH1544> to this day<MH3117>. So shall I be inquired<MH1875> of by you, house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>? As I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “I certainly<MH518> will not be inquired<MH1875> of by you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And whatever comes<MH5927> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>into your mind<MH7307> certainly<MH1961> will not come<MH1961> about<MH1961>, when<MH834> you say<MH559>: ‘We will be like the nations<MH1471>, like the families<MH4940> of the lands<MH776>, serving<MH8334> wood<MH6086> and stone<MH68>.’ <p class="hdg">God Will Restore Israel to Her Land</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>“As I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>, “with a mighty<MH2389> hand<MH3027> and with an outstretched<MH5186> arm<MH2220> and with wrath<MH2534> poured<MH8210> out<MH5186>, I assuredly<MH518, 3808> shall be<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> over<MH5921> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>I will bring<MH3318> you out<MH3318> from the peoples<MH5971a> and gather<MH6908> you from the lands<MH776> where<MH834> you are scattered<MH6327a>, with a mighty<MH2389> hand<MH3027> and with an outstretched<MH5186> arm<MH2220> and with wrath<MH2534> poured<MH8210> out<MH8210>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>and I will bring<MH935> you into the wilderness<MH4057b> of the peoples<MH5971a>, and there<MH8033> I will enter<MH8199> into<MH8199> judgment<MH8199> with you face<MH6440> to face<MH6440>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Just<MH312c> as I entered<MH8199> into<MH8199> judgment<MH8199> with your fathers<MH1> in the wilderness<MH4057b> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, so<MH3651> I will enter<MH8199> into<MH8199> judgment<MH8199> with you,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>“I will make you pass<MH5674a> under<MH8478> the rod<MH7626>, and I will bring<MH935> you into the bond<MH4562> of the covenant<MH1285>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/20-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>and I will purge<MH1305> from you the rebels<MH4775> and those who revolt<MH6586> against Me; I will bring<MH3318> them out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> where<MH4033> they reside<MH4033>, but they will not enter<MH935> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>land<MH127> of Israel<MH3478>.
