A DAMPIERRE-SUR-LE-DOUBS (Doubs) par Pierre PÉTREQUIN, Jean-Pierre URLACHER et Dominique VUAILLAT Au mois de mars 1967, M. Y. Jeannin, conservateur du Musée de Montbéliard, nous signalait la découverte de fosses avec tessons de céramique du Bronze final dans une sablière de Dampierre-sur-le-Doubs. Les engins de terrassement qui procédaient au décapage d'une couche de terre arable mettaient au jour des foyers, des traces de trous de poteaux, etc. Sous la conduite de M. J.-P. Millotte, directeur de la Circonscription préhistorique de Franche-Comté, nous avons entrepris une fouille de sauvetage du 6 février au 23 mars 1967, avec la collaboration de M. J. L. Odouze1. Le gisement archéologique de Dampierre est établi dans un méandre de la plaine alluviale du Doubs, à une dizaine de kilomètres en aval de Montbéliard (fig. 1). Il s'étend sur les parcelles cadastrales nos 138 à 145, exploitées en sablière par l'entreprise Barbier Frères (Bavans), au lieu-dit « Sur le Terreau ». A 250 m du site protohistorique, un affleur ement rocheux dans le lit du Doubs permet de traverser la rivière à gué. Notre fouille a porté sur un décapage de 160 sur 140 m. Sous la couche d'humus et de terre superficielle apparaissent partout les alluvions du Doubs. C'est dans le niveau supérieur de ces alluvions graveleuses que se placent les structures d'habitat et les sépultures que nous avons relevées sur le plan général du chantier (fig. 2). De part et d'autre du site subsistent des traces d'anciens chenaux et de dérivations du Doubs. La découverte de tessons au fond de ces chenaux a permis de déterminer l'ancien tracé du Doubs, qui venait probablement isoler le site protohistorique sur une sorte de presqu'île, en bordure de méandre. Le plan général (fig. 2) fait apparaître des structures d'habitat compliquées, fort denses et d'interprétation malaisée si l'on admet qu'elles sont toutes contemporaines. Pourtant le décapage du secteur le plus rapproché du Doubs, situé à 0,80 m ou 1 m au-dessus du niveau actuel de circulation des eaux, a mis en évidence deux horizons archéologiques 1. Que MM. Les tombes du milieu de l’âge du Fer des plaines languedociennes sont encore fort mal connues. La fouille préventive menée en 2004 sur le site de la Pailletrice, à Pérols, près de Montpellier, a livré quatre tombes à fossé circulaire de la fin du VIe s. et du début du Ve s. av. J.-C. Ces structures sont groupées à proximité immédiate d’un chemin empierré, attesté dès le dernier quart du VIe s. av. J.-C. Pour la première fois dans cette région, l’état de conservation du gisement permet d’affirmer le caractère funéraire de tels cercles fossoyés. Le monument le mieux conservé montre un fossé périphérique limitant un tumulus de terre très bas, vers le centre duquel se trouvent un dépôt secondaire de crémation avec son ossuaire et les restes de deux vases en bronze, ainsi qu’une fosse peu profonde contenant des résidus du bûcher. Dans les fossés de tous ces monuments sont conservés des restes plus ou moins nombreux d’amphores et de vases à boire, témoins de possibles cérémonies auprès des tombeaux. Les données livrées par ce gisement sont insérées dans le contexte des pratiques funéraires du premier âge du Fer du Languedoc oriental. Abstract. Graves dating from the Middle Iron Age in the Languedocian plains remain little known. The preventive excavation conducted in 2004 at la Pailletrice in Pérols, close to Montpellier, uncovered four graves with circular pits from the end of the VIth c. BC and the early Vth c. BC They are gathered next to a stone path, testified from the last quarter of the VIth c. B.C. For the first time in this area, the vestiges have been preserved enough to assess the funerary characteristics of such circular pits. The best preserved monument shows a peripheral ditch marking out a very low earth barrow with a secondary cremation deposit next to its centre, an ossuary with the remains of two bronze vases, and a shallow pit containing residues from the pyre. A series of amphorae and drinking vessels remains have been preserved in all these pits, likely proof of rituals performed next to the graves. They date from the Bronze age and they were found in Burgundy near to the Saône river. These two sets come from preventive excavations conducted by the INRAP (National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research). The first set comes from Athée “Champs de Grette” (Côte-d’Or). This site was hold between the upper Palaeolithic to the end of the first Iron age. The second set comes from Sevrey “En Longeois” (Saône-et-Loire). This one was hold between Neolithic and during the Gallo-Roman period. For both sets, there is a significant number of ceramics. Last year, we created our own typology of forms and ornaments. This work allows us to identify more easily the rest of the ceramics of these two sites. The goal of this year is to develop our “technological eye”. So, we tried to understand how potters build their own ceramics. For this, we recall the manufacturing process like forming, roughing and surface treatment during finishing. We have also included firing and sizing of inclusions of ceramic bodies. The technological observations on the ceramics of the two sites give us the opportunity to see if similarities and differences are observables. Thereby, we can supposethat interactions between artisans of the two sites couldhappened andallowed exchanges and development of shared (or not) technologies and methods. ------------- Ce mémoire de deuxième année consiste à l’analyse de deux corpus de céramiques datées du début de l’âge du Bronze final et qui sont localisés en Bourgogne au bord de la Saône. Ces deux corpus sont issus de fouilles préventives réalisées par l’INRAP. Le premier corpus provient du « Champs de Grette » et a été mis au jour à Athée en Côte d’Or, il s’agit d’un site occupé entre le Paléolithique supérieur et la fin du premier âge du Fer. Le nombre minimum d’individus pour la période de l’âge du Bronze final est de 350. Quant au deuxième corpus, il a lui été mis au jour sur la commune de Sevrey « En Longeois » à proximité de Chalon-sur-Saône en Saône-et-Loire. Sevrey « En Longeois » a été occupé du néolithique à la période gallo-romaine. Concernant l’âge du Bronze final, ici aussi, on dénombre une importante quantité de céramiques. L’année passée nous avions mis au point une typologie des formes et des décors sur deux fosses de ces sites ; ce travail déjà effectué nous permet d’inventorier et de répertorier le reste du mobilier. L’objectif de cette année étant d’aborder un aspect plus technologique de ces céramiques. Nous avons essayé de comprendre comment ces céramiques ont été fabriquées en évoquant notamment le concept des chaines opératoires comme la mise en forme, l’ébauchage et le traitement des surfaces lors des finitions. Enfin, nous avons également abordé la granulométrie des inclusions et la cuisson des pâtes. Les observations technologiques sur les corpus céramiques des deux sites nous donne l’opportunité de voir si des concordances et des différences sont observables. La métallurgie du fer est bien représentée dès le Ha B2-3. Le passage au Premier âge du Fer / Ha C montre une continuité des styles céramiques, mais aussi une tendance au fractionnement en faciès régionaux. La pratique du dépôt terrestre de bronzes est abandonnée (elle ne réapparaît qu'au cours du VII e s.) et les immersions de biens métalliques de prix se raréfient. Les tombes d'hommes armés apparaissent pendant la phase ancienne du Premier âge du Fer. Le Centre-Ouest et ses marges n'apparaissent donc pas comme « périphériques », ils suivent une évolution de leurs pratiques sociales parallèle à celle de l'Europe moyenne. Ce constat devra à terme conduire à une révision de la notion de « Bronze atlantique », partiellement recevable pour la production métallique, mais pas pour la céramique, et pas davantage en ce qui concerne les pratiques sociales, en particulier au niveau des élites. Cette rencontre fut la première jamais organisée sur ce thème, qui n’a suscité que peu de recherches depuis les années 1960. Elle répondait à un double besoin : rattraper, autant que faire se peut, une partie au moins du retard accumulé et mettre en perspective un certain nombre de découvertes réalisées ces dernières années, découvertes qui renouvellent largement la documentation disponible. Ce volume comprend les 11 communications prononcées à l’occasion de la table ronde. Elles s’appuient pour l’essentiel sur des sites découverts lors d’opérations d’archéologie préventive réalisées par Antéa Archéologie, la PAIR et l’INRAP et couvrent l’Alsace (7 comm.), la Lorraine (3 comm.) et le Nord de la Franche-Comté (1 comm.). Les sites présentés sont pour la plupart inédits et concernent, pour certains, des domaines qui étaient jusque là complètement vierges de trouvailles, par exemple la question de l’habitat campaniforme en Alsace. Des articles de synthèse présentent, en outre, l’état le plus récent des recherches sur les pratiques funéraires en Lorraine (Néolithique final et Bronze ancien) et en Alsace (Bronze ancien) ainsi qu’une esquisse de chronologie de la séquence Campaniforme – Bronze ancien en Alsace. Suivant un plan chronologique, nous abordons les sites de la fin de l'âge du Bronze puis ceux du second âge du Fer en ouvrant ensuite des pistes de réflexion sur l'organisation territoriale et économique.
