and he was chief of the publicans, and he was rich. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And he was seeking to see Jesus, who He is; and was not able on account of the multitude, because he was small in stature. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And having run forward in advance, he went up in a sycamore-tree in order that he might see Him: because He was about to pass that way. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And when He came to the place, Jesus looking up, saw him, and said to him, <FR>Zaccheus, hastening, come down; for it behooveth me to abide in thy house this day.<Fr> <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And hastening, he came down, and received Him rejoicing. <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And all seeing, murmured, saying, that He is come in to abide with a sinner man. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And Zaccheus standing, said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any one fraudulently, I restore fourfold. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And Jesus said to him, <FR>This day salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;<Fr> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span><FR>for the Son of man came to seek and to save that which is lost.<Fr><p> <A name="12"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Ten Minas<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/25.htm#14">Matthew 25:14&#8211;30</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And they hearing these things, proceeding, He spoke a parable, because he is nigh unto Jerusalem, and they think the kingdom of God is about to be made manifest immediately. <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then He said, <FR>A certain nobleman went to a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and return.<Fr> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span><FR>And calling his ten servants, he gave to them ten pounds, and said to them, Operate till I come.<Fr> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span><FR>But his citizens continued to hate him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We do not wish this man to rule over us.<Fr> <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span><FR>And it came to pass, when he returned, having received the kingdom, and he said, that those servants should be called, to whom he had given the money, in order that he might know what each one had gained by their merchandise.<Fr> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span><FR>And the first came, saying, Lord, thy pound has gained ten pounds.<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span><FR>And he said to him, Well done, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in the least, have thou authority over ten cities.<Fr> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span><FR>And the second one came, saying, Lord, thy pound has gained five pounds.<Fr> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span><FR>And he also said to him, Be thou over five cities.<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><FR>And the other one came, saying, Lord, behold, thy pound, which I had laid away in a napkin:<Fr> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span><FR>for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that which thou hadst not laid down, and thou reapest that which thou hast not sown.<Fr> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span><FR>And he says to him, Out of thine own mouth I will judge thee, thou wicked servant. Didst thou know that I am an austere man, taking up what I have not laid down, and reaping what I have not sown?<Fr> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span><FR>Wherefore indeed didst thou not put my money in the bank? and having come I would have received the same with the product.<Fr> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span><FR>And he said to the bystanders, Take the pound from him, and give it to the one having ten pounds.<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span><FR>And they said to him, Lord, he has ten pounds.<Fr> <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span><FR>I say unto you, that to every one having it shall be given; and from every one not having, it shall be taken away even that which he hath.<Fr> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span><FR>Moreover bring these my enemies, not wishing me to rule over them, hither, and slay them before me.<Fr><p> <A name="29"></a><p class="hdg">The Triumphal Entry<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../matthew/21.htm">Matthew 21:1&#8211;11</a>; <a href ="../mark/11.htm">Mark 11:1&#8211;11</a>; <a href ="../john/12.htm#12">John 12:12&#8211;19</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And speaking these things, He was journeying before them, going up to Jerusalem.<p> <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And it came to pass, when He drew nigh unto Bethphage and Bethany, to the mount called the Mount of Olives, and He sent away two of His disciples, <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>saying, <FR>Go into the village over against you; in which entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one of men ever sat: loosing, lead him hither.<Fr> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span><FR>And if any one may ask you, Why do you loose him? thus say to him, that the Lord hath need of him:<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>and those having been sent, departing, found as Jesus told them. <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/19-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And they loosing the donkey, his master said to them, Why do you loose the donkey?
