Least-Developed Countries</h1><div class="main"><p>The Division is responsible for assisting LDCs' governments to put in place policies for using the intellectual property system to their best advantage by developing and strengthening the creative potential and inventive capacity of their people.</p><p>The program formulates and promotes <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20180622023302/http://www.wipo.int/tad/en/">development assistance activities</a> and projects commensurate with the needs and priorities set by individual LDCs. It carries out research and undertakes relevant activities to provide advisory services to governments and private sectors in LDCs. It also develops and executes programs of technical cooperation activities with other WIPO sectors and departments as well as with the United Nations (UN), UN specialized agencies and other intergovernmental organizations.</p><p>The Division also works with LDCs to build and strengthen their technology transfer systems and institutions and contributes towards the realization of relevant recommendations of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) for the LDCs. Coordination of the implementation of the WIPO Deliverables — which is set of priority thematic areas for cooperation with LDCs as identified by LDCs' ministers on the occasion of the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (UN LDC IV) — is a key responsibility of the Division.</p><h2>Our activities include:</h2><ul class="dot__list"><li>Organization of national, regional and international high level policy forums on using intellectual property for the economic growth and development of LDCs.</li><li>Establishing <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20180622023302/http://www.wipo.int/ipstrategies/en/">IP and innovation policies and strategies</a> in LDCs.</li><li>Preparation of report and analysis for the UN Secretary General's Report to the UN General Assembly on the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA).</li><li>Facilitating capacity building in harnessing scientific and technical information (including patent information) for technological capacity building for development.</li><li>Facilitating project based transfer, adaptation, development and acquisition of appropriate technology for the development of LDCs on the basis of individual country priority need analysis.</li><li>Training human resources with special emphasis on technical skill development</li></ul>
