And Jesus, having stooped down, wrote with His finger into the ground. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-7.htm#literal"><b>7</b></a></span>And as they continued asking Him, having lifted up Himself and He said to them, The one sinless among you, let him cast the first stone upon her. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-8.htm#literal"><b>8</b></a></span>And again having stooped down, He wrote into the ground. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-9.htm#literal"><b>9</b></a></span>And having heard {and being convicted by (under) the conscience}, they went out one by one, having begun from the elder ones until the last, and Jesus was left alone and the women being in the midst. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-10.htm#literal"><b>10</b></a></span>And Jesus having lifted up and saw no one except the woman, said to her, Woman, where are they who accuse you? And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn you; go and {from now} sin no more.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-12.htm#literal"><b>12</b></a></span>Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the Light of the world; the one following Me shall not walk in the darkness but will have the Light of life. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-13.htm#literal"><b>13</b></a></span>The Pharisees then said to Him, You are bearing witness concerning Yourself; Your testimony is not true. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-14.htm#literal"><b>14</b></a></span>Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I am bearing witness concerning Myself, My testimony is true, because I know from where I came and where I go. You however do not know from where I come or where I go. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-15.htm#literal"><b>15</b></a></span>You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-16.htm#literal"><b>16</b></a></span>And if I also judge, My judgment is true, because I am not alone but I and the Father having sent Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-17.htm#literal"><b>17</b></a></span>And in your law also it has been written, The testimony of two men is true. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-18.htm#literal"><b>18</b></a></span>I am the One bearing witness concerning Myself and the Father having sent Me bears witness concerning Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-19.htm#literal"><b>19</b></a></span>They therefore said to Him, Where is Your Father? Jesus answered, You neither know Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-20.htm#literal"><b>20</b></a></span>These words He spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no one took Him, because His hour had not yet come.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-21.htm#literal"><b>21</b></a></span>Then again He said to them, I am going away and you will seek Me and you will die in your sin; where I go, you are not able to come. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-22.htm#literal"><b>22</b></a></span>The Jews therefore said, Will He kill Himself, that He says, Where I go, you are not able to come? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-23.htm#literal"><b>23</b></a></span>And He said to them, You are from out of below (lower, under, down), I am from out of above (up); You are from out of this world, I am not from out of this world. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-24.htm#literal"><b>24</b></a></span>I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am [He], you will die in your sins. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-25.htm#literal"><b>25</b></a></span>They said therefore to Him, Who are You? Jesus said to them, What also I am saying to you from the beginning. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-26.htm#literal"><b>26</b></a></span>I have many things to say and to judge concerning you; but the One having sent Me is true, and I, what I have heard from Him, these things I say unto the world. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-27.htm#literal"><b>27</b></a></span>They did not recognize that He spoke to them of the Father. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-28.htm#literal"><b>28</b></a></span>Jesus therefore said to them, When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am [He], and I do nothing from Myself, but just as the Father taught Me, I speak these things. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-29.htm#literal"><b>29</b></a></span>And the One having sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone because I always do the things pleasing to Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-30.htm#literal"><b>30</b></a></span>In His speaking these things, many believed unto Him.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-31.htm#literal"><b>31</b></a></span>Jesus therefore said to those Jews having believed unto Him, If you abide in My word, truly you are My disciples. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-32.htm#literal"><b>32</b></a></span>And you will know the truth and the truth will liberate (free) you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-33.htm#literal"><b>33</b></a></span>They answered to Him, We are Abraham’s seed and we have never been under bondage to anyone; how do You say, You will become free ones (liberated ones)?<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-34.htm#literal"><b>34</b></a></span>Jesus answered them, Truly, truly I say to you that everyone committing sin is a slave (servant) of sin. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-35.htm#literal"><b>35</b></a></span>And the slave does not abide in the house unto the age; the Son abides unto the age. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-36.htm#literal"><b>36</b></a></span>If therefore the Son shall liberate you, you will be liberated ones indeed. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-37.htm#literal"><b>37</b></a></span>I know that you are the seed of Abraham; but you seek to kill Me, because My word does not receive a place in you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-38.htm#literal"><b>38</b></a></span>That which I have seen with the Father, I speak; you therefore also do what you have seen with your father.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-39.htm#literal"><b>39</b></a></span>They answered and said to Him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus says to them, If you were children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham; <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-40.htm#literal"><b>40</b></a></span>However now you seek to kill Me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, that I heard from God. This Abraham did not do. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-41.htm#literal"><b>41</b></a></span>You are doing the works of your father. They said then to Him, We have not been born from out of fornication (sexual immorality); we have one Father, God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-42.htm#literal"><b>42</b></a></span>Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would have loved Me, for I came out from God and am here; for I have not come from Myself, but He sent Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-43.htm#literal"><b>43</b></a></span>Why do you not know My speech? Because you are not able to hear My word. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-44.htm#literal"><b>44</b></a></span>You are from out of your father the devil, and you want to do the passionate urges of your father. He was a murderer (man-slayer) from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he might speak falsehood, he speaks from out of his own; because he is a liar and the father of it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-45.htm#literal"><b>45</b></a></span>And because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me! <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-46.htm#literal"><b>46</b></a></span>Which of you convicts (exposes, reproves, convinces) Me concerning sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe Me? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-47.htm#literal"><b>47</b></a></span>He who is from out of God, hears the sayings (rhemata) of God; because of this you do not hear, because you are not from out of God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-48.htm#literal"><b>48</b></a></span>The Jews answered and said to Him, Do we not rightly (kalos) say that You are a Samaritan and have a demon? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-49.htm#literal"><b>49</b></a></span>Jesus answered, I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father and you dishonor Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-50.htm#literal"><b>50</b></a></span>And I do not seek My glory; there is One seeking it and judging. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-51.htm#literal"><b>51</b></a></span>Truly, truly I say to you, If anyone keeps My word, he shall never see death unto the age. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-52.htm#literal"><b>52</b></a></span>Then the Jews said to Him, Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets, and You say, If anyone keeps My word, he shall never taste of death unto the age. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-53.htm#literal"><b>53</b></a></span>Are You greater than our father Abraham who died? And the prophets died! Whom You make Yourself? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-54.htm#literal"><b>54</b></a></span>Jesus answered, If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father glorifying Me, of whom you say, He is our God. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/john/8-55.htm#literal"><b>55</b></a></span>And you have not known Him, however I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be like you, a liar.
