src="http://abdas.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/News-1-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="375" /> His Excellency Neil Wigan, the British High Commissioner to Kenya, met with Dr. Deborah M. Barasa, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health, to discuss ongoing health partnerships between Kenya and the UK.</p> <p>The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both nations, with an emphasis on advancing vital health initiatives and strengthening cooperation in essential healthcare areas.</p> <p>Dr. Barasa gave updates at the meeting on a number of important projects under the Memorandum of Understanding, such as the sending of Kenyan nurses to the UK, the bolstering of the Kenya-UK Health Partnership, and the Kenya-UK Health Alliance.</p> <p>There was also discussion of the long-standing partnership between KEMRI and the Wellcome Trust, namely in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and malaria.</p> <p>The crucial topic of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) was discussed by both sides, and Dr. Barasa acknowledged the UK’s assistance through the Fleming Fund, which aims to enhance the use of antibiotics and the exchange of data. It also emphasized the UK’s contribution to the Global Fund, which supports Kenya’s fight against HIV, TB, and malaria.</p> <p>Ambassador Wigan reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to assisting Kenya’s healthcare system and furthering the objectives of better access to healthcare and universal health coverage.
