class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-1.htm"><b>1</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “See<MH7200>, I have made<MH5414> you <i>as</i> God<MH430> to Pharaoh<MH6547>, and your brother<MH251> Aaron<MH175> shall be your prophet<MH5030>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>As for you, you shall speak<MH1696> all<MH3605> that I command<MH6680> you, and your brother<MH251> Aaron<MH175> shall speak<MH1696> to Pharaoh<MH6547> that he let<MH7971> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> go<MH7971> out<MH7971> of his land<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>But I will harden<MH7185> Pharaoh’s<MH6547> heart<MH3820>, so that I may multiply<MH7235a> My signs<MH226> and My wonders<MH4159> in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>When Pharaoh<MH6547> does not listen<MH8085> to you, I will lay<MH5414> My hand<MH3027> on Egypt<MH4714> and bring<MH3318> out<MH3318> My armies<MH6635>, My people<MH5971a> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, from the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714> by great<MH1419> judgments<MH8201>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then the Egyptians<MH4714> shall know<MH3045> that I am the LORD<MH3068>, when I extend<MH5186> My hand<MH3027> over<MH5921> Egypt<MH4714> and bring<MH3318> out<MH3318> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> from their midst<MH8432>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> did<MH6213a> <i>this;</i> as the LORD<MH3068> commanded<MH6680> them, so<MH3651> they did<MH6213a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> was eighty<MH8084> years<MH8141> old<MH1121> and Aaron<MH175> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>eighty-three<MH8084>, when they spoke<MH1696> to Pharaoh<MH6547>. <p class="hdg">Aaron’s Staff Turns into a Serpent</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH559> to Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>“When<MH3588> Pharaoh<MH6547> speaks<MH1696> to you, saying<MH559>, ‘<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>Work<MH5414> a miracle<MH4159>,’ then you shall say<MH559> to Aaron<MH175>, ‘Take<MH3947> your staff<MH4294> and throw<MH7993> <i>it</i> down<MH7993> before<MH6440> Pharaoh<MH6547>, <i>so that</i> it may turn<MH1961> into a serpent<MH8577>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> came<MH935> to Pharaoh<MH6547>, and so<MH3651> they did<MH6213a>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680>; and Aaron<MH175> threw<MH7993> his staff<MH4294> down<MH7993> before<MH6440> Pharaoh<MH6547> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>his servants<MH5650>, and it turned<MH1961> into a serpent<MH8577>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Then Pharaoh<MH6547> also<MH1571> called<MH7121> for <i>the</i> wise<MH2450> men<MH2450> and <i>the</i> sorcerers<MH3784>, and they too<MH1571>, <i>the</i> soothsayer<MH2748> priests<MH2748> of Egypt<MH4714>, did<MH6213a> the same<MH3651> with their secret<MH3909> arts<MH3909>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>For each<MH376> one<MH376> threw<MH7993> down<MH7993> his staff<MH4294>, and they turned<MH1961> into serpents<MH8577>. But Aaron’s<MH175> staff<MH4294> swallowed<MH1104> their staffs<MH4294>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Yet Pharaoh’s<MH6547> heart<MH3820> was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>hardened<MH2388>, and he did not listen<MH8085> to them, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had said<MH1696>. <p class="hdg">Water Turned into Blood</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Pharaoh’s<MH6547> heart<MH3820> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>stubborn<MH3515>; he refuses<MH3985> to let<MH7971> the people<MH5971a> go<MH7971>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Go<MH1980> to Pharaoh<MH6547> in the morning<MH1242> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>just<MH2009> as<MH2009> he is going<MH3318> out<MH3318> to the water<MH4325>, and position<MH5324> yourself to meet<MH7122> him on the bank<MH8193> of the Nile<MH2975>; and you shall take<MH3947> in your hand<MH3027> the staff<MH4294> that was turned<MH2015> into a serpent<MH5175>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And you shall say<MH559> to him, ‘The LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of the Hebrews<MH5680>, sent<MH7971> me to you, saying<MH559>, “Let<MH7971> My people<MH5971a> go<MH7971>, so that they may serve<MH5647> Me in the wilderness<MH4057b>. But behold<MH2009>, you have not listened<MH8085> up<MH5704> to<MH5704> now<MH3541>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “By this<MH2088> you shall know<MH3045> that I am the LORD<MH3068>: behold<MH2009>, I am going to strike<MH5221> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>the water<MH4325> that is in the Nile<MH2975> with the staff<MH4294> that is in my hand<MH3027>, and it will be turned<MH2015> into blood<MH1818>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then the fish<MH1710> that are in the Nile<MH2975> will die<MH4191>, the Nile<MH2975> will stink<MH887>, and the Egyptians<MH4714> will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>no<MH3811> longer<MH3811> be<MH3811> able<MH3811> to drink<MH8354> water<MH4325> from the Nile<MH2975>.”’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, “Say<MH559> to Aaron<MH175>, ‘Take<MH3947> your staff<MH4294> and extend<MH5186> your hand<MH3027> over<MH5921> the waters<MH4325> of Egypt<MH4714>, over<MH5921> their rivers<MH5104>, over<MH5921> their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>streams<MH2975>, over<MH5921> their pools<MH98>, and over<MH5921> all<MH3605> their reservoirs<MH4723b> of water<MH4325>, so that they may become<MH1961> blood<MH1818>; and there will be blood<MH1818> through all<MH3605> the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, both in <i>containers of</i> wood<MH6086> and in <i>containers of</i> stone<MH68>.’” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> and Aaron<MH175> did<MH6213a> just<MH3651, 3512c> as the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680>. And he lifted<MH7311> up<MH7311> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>the staff<MH4294> and struck<MH5221> the water<MH4325> that <i>was</i> in the Nile<MH2975> in the sight<MH5869> of Pharaoh<MH6547> and in the sight<MH5869> of his servants<MH5650>; and all<MH3605> the water<MH4325> that <i>was</i> in the Nile<MH2975> was turned<MH2015> into blood<MH1818>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/exodus/7-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then the fish<MH1710> that <i>were</i> in the Nile<MH2975> died<MH4191>, and the Nile<MH2975> stank<MH887>, so that the Egyptians<MH4714> could<MH3201> not drink<MH8354> water<MH4325> from the Nile<MH2975>.
