Diese Erweiterung führte zu Spannungen mit Russland, das die Nato als Bedrohung ansieht.</p> <p>Die Nato war in zahlreiche Konflikte involviert, darunter den Balkankrieg in den 1990er-Jahren, die Intervention in Afghanistan nach den Anschlägen vom 11. September 2001 und die Libyen-Intervention 2011.
