come<MH5927> up<MH5927> to us quickly<MH4120> and save<MH3467> us and help<MH5826> us, for all<MH3605> the kings<MH4428> of the Amorites<MH567> that live<MH3427> in the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> have assembled<MH6908> against<MH413> us.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> went<MH5927> up<MH5927> from Gilgal<MH1537>, he and all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> of war<MH4421> with him, and all<MH3605> the valiant<MH2428> warriors<MH1368>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to Joshua<MH3091>, “Do not fear<MH3372a> them, for I have handed<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH5414> to you; not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>one<MH376> of them will stand<MH5975> against<MH6440> you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> came<MH935> upon them suddenly<MH6597> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>by marching<MH5927> all<MH3605> night<MH3915> from Gilgal<MH1537>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> brought<MH2000> them into<MH2000> confusion<MH2000> before<MH6440> Israel<MH3478>, and He struck<MH5221> them down<MH5221> in a great<MH1419> defeat<MH4347> at Gibeon<MH1391>, and pursued<MH7291> them by the way<MH1870> of the ascent<MH4608> to Beth-horon<MH1032> and struck<MH5221> them as far<MH5704> as Azekah<MH5825> and Makkedah<MH4719>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And as they fled<MH5127> from Israel<MH3478>, <i>while</i> they were at the descent<MH4174> of Beth-horon<MH1032>, the LORD<MH3068> hurled<MH7993> large<MH1419> stones<MH68> from heaven<MH8064> on them as far<MH5704> as Azekah<MH5825>, and they died<MH4191>; <i>there were</i> more<MH7227a> who<MH834> died<MH4191> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>from the hailstones<MH1259, 68> than<MH4480> those whom<MH834> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> killed<MH2026> with the sword<MH2719>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then<MH227> Joshua<MH3091> spoke<MH1696> to the LORD<MH3068> on the day<MH3117> when the LORD<MH3068> turned<MH5414> the Amorites<MH567> over<MH5414> to the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, and he said<MH559> in the sight<MH5869> of Israel<MH3478>, <p class="indent1stline">“Sun<MH8121>, stand<MH1826a> still<MH1826a> at Gibeon<MH1391>, <t><p class="indent1">And moon<MH3394>, at the Valley<MH6010> of Aijalon<MH357>!” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>So the sun<MH8121> stood<MH1826a> still<MH1826a>, and the moon<MH3394> stopped<MH5975>, <t><p class="indent1">Until<MH5704> the nation<MH1471> avenged<MH5358> themselves of their enemies<MH340>. <p class="R">Is it not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of Jashar<MH3477>? And the sun<MH8121> stopped<MH5975> in the middle<MH2677> of the sky<MH8064> and did not hurry<MH213> to go<MH935> <i>down</i> for about<MH935> a whole<MH8549> day<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>There was no<MH3808> day<MH3117> like that before<MH6440> it or after<MH310> it, when the LORD<MH3068> listened<MH8085> to the voice<MH6963> of a man<MH376>; for the LORD<MH3068> fought<MH3898a> for Israel<MH3478>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> and all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> with him returned<MH7725> to the camp<MH4264> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>at Gilgal<MH1537>. <p class="hdg">Victory at Makkedah</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Now these<MH428> five<MH2568> kings<MH4428> had fled<MH5127> and hidden<MH2244> themselves in the cave<MH4631> at Makkedah<MH4719>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And it was told<MH5046> to Joshua<MH3091>, saying<MH559>, “The five<MH2568> kings<MH4428> have been found<MH4672> hidden<MH2244> in the cave<MH4631> at Makkedah<MH4719>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> said<MH559>, “Roll<MH1556> large<MH1419> stones<MH68> against<MH413> the mouth<MH6310> of the cave<MH4631>, and post<MH6485> men<MH376> by it to guard<MH8104> them, <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>but do not stay<MH5975> <i>there</i> yourselves<MH864b>; pursue<MH7291> your enemies<MH340> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>attack<MH2179> them from<MH2179> behind<MH2179>. Do not allow<MH5414> them to enter<MH935> their cities<MH5892b>, for the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430> has handed<MH3027, 5414> them over<MH5414> to you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>It came<MH1961> about<MH1961> when Joshua<MH3091> and the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> had finished<MH3615> striking<MH5221> them down<MH5221> in a very<MH3966> great<MH1419> defeat<MH4347>, until<MH5704> they were destroyed<MH8552>, and the survivors<MH8300> of them <i>who</i> escaped<MH8277> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>had entered<MH935> the fortified<MH4013> cities<MH5892b>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>that all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> returned<MH7725> to the camp<MH4264>, to Joshua<MH3091> at Makkedah<MH4719> in peace<MH7965>. No<MH3808> one <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>uttered<MH2782> a word<MH3956> against any of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> said<MH559>, “Open<MH6605a> the mouth<MH6310> of the cave<MH4631> and bring<MH3318> these<MH428> five<MH2568> kings<MH4428> out<MH3318> to me from the cave<MH4631>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>They did<MH6213a> so<MH3651>, and brought<MH3318> these<MH428> five<MH2568> kings<MH4428> out<MH3318> to him from the cave<MH4631>: the king<MH4428> of Jerusalem<MH3389>, the king<MH4428> of Hebron<MH2275a>, the king<MH4428> of Jarmuth<MH3412>, the king<MH4428> of Lachish<MH3923>, <i>and</i> the king<MH4428> of Eglon<MH5700a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>When they brought<MH3318> these<MH428> kings<MH4428> out<MH3318> to Joshua<MH3091>, Joshua<MH3091> called<MH7121> for all<MH3605> the men<MH376> of Israel<MH3478>, and said<MH559> to the leaders<MH7101> of the men<MH376> of war<MH4421> who had gone<MH1980> with him, “Come<MH7126> forward<MH7126>, put<MH7760> your feet<MH7272> on the necks<MH6677> of these<MH428> kings<MH4428>.” So they came<MH7126> forward<MH7126> and put<MH7760> their feet<MH7272> on their necks<MH6677>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Joshua<MH3091> then said<MH559> to them, “Do not fear<MH3372a> or be dismayed<MH2865>! Be strong<MH2388> and courageous<MH553>, for the LORD<MH3068> will do<MH6213a> this<MH3602> to all<MH3605> your enemies<MH340> with whom<MH834> you fight<MH3898a>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>So afterward<MH310, 3651> Joshua<MH3091> struck<MH5221> them and put<MH4191> them to<MH4191> death<MH4191>, and he hanged<MH8518> them on five<MH2568> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>trees<MH6086>; and they were hung<MH8518> on the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>trees<MH6086> until<MH5704> evening<MH6153>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Then it came<MH1961> about<MH1961> at <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>sunset<MH8121, 935> that Joshua<MH3091> gave<MH6680> the command<MH6680>, and they took<MH3381> them down<MH3381> from the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>trees<MH6086> and threw<MH7993> them into the cave<MH4631> where<MH834, 8033> they had hidden<MH2244> themselves, and put<MH7760> large<MH1419> stones<MH68> over<MH5921> the mouth<MH6310> of the cave<MH4631>, to this<MH2088> very<MH6106> day<MH3117>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Now Joshua<MH3091> captured<MH3920> Makkedah<MH4719> on that day<MH3117>, and struck<MH5221> it and its king<MH4428> with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>; he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>utterly<MH2763a> destroyed<MH2763a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>it and every<MH3605> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>person<MH5315> who<MH834> was in it. He left<MH7604> no<MH3808> survivor<MH8300>. So he did<MH6213a> to the king<MH4428> of Makkedah<MH4719> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> he had done<MH6213a> to the king<MH4428> of Jericho<MH3405>. <p class="hdg">Joshua’s Conquest of Southern Canaan</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> and all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> with him passed<MH5674a> on<MH5674a> from Makkedah<MH4719> to Libnah<MH3841>, and fought<MH3898a> against<MH5973> Libnah<MH3841>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> also<MH1571> handed<MH5414, 3027> it over<MH5414> to Israel<MH3478>, with its king<MH4428>, and he struck<MH5221> it and every<MH3605> person<MH5315> who<MH834> <i>was</i> in it with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>. He left<MH7604> no<MH3808> survivor<MH8300> in it. So he did<MH6213a> to its king<MH4428> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> he had done<MH6213a> to the king<MH4428> of Jericho<MH3405>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And Joshua<MH3091> and all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> with him passed<MH5674a> on<MH5674a> from Libnah<MH3841> to Lachish<MH3923>, and they camped<MH2583> by it and fought<MH3898a> against it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> handed<MH5414, 3027> Lachish<MH3923> over<MH5414> to Israel<MH3478>; and he captured<MH3920> it on the second<MH8145> day<MH3117>, and struck<MH5221> it and every<MH3605> person<MH5315> who<MH834> <i>was</i> in it with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>, according to all<MH3605> that he had done<MH6213a> to Libnah<MH3841>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Then<MH227> Horam<MH2036> king<MH4428> of Gezer<MH1507> came<MH5927> up<MH5927> to help<MH5826> Lachish<MH3923>, and Joshua<MH3091> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>defeated<MH5221> him and his people<MH5971a> until<MH5704> he had left<MH7604> him no<MH1115> survivor<MH8300>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And Joshua<MH3091> and all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> with him passed<MH5674a> on<MH5674a> from Lachish<MH3923> to Eglon<MH5700a>, and they camped<MH2583> by it and fought<MH3898a> against<MH5921> it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>They captured<MH3920> it on that day<MH3117> and struck<MH5221> it with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>; and he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>utterly<MH2763a> destroyed<MH2763a> on that day<MH3117> every<MH3605> person<MH5315> who<MH834> <i>was</i> in it, according to all<MH3605> that he had done<MH6213a> to Lachish<MH3923>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> and all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> with him went<MH5927> up<MH5927> from Eglon<MH5700a> to Hebron<MH2275a>, and they fought<MH3898a> against<MH5921> it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>And they captured<MH3920> it and struck<MH5221> it and its king<MH4428> and all<MH3605> its cities<MH5892b> and all<MH3605> the persons<MH5315> who<MH834> <i>were</i> in it with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>. He left<MH7604> no<MH3808> survivor<MH8300>, according to all<MH3605> that he had done<MH6213a> to Eglon<MH5700a>. And he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>utterly<MH2763a> destroyed<MH2763a> it and every<MH3605> person<MH5315> who<MH834> <i>was</i> in it. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>Then Joshua<MH3091> and all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> with him returned<MH7725> to Debir<MH1688>, and they fought<MH3898a> against<MH5921> it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>He captured<MH3920> it and its king<MH4428> and all<MH3605> its cities<MH5892b>, and they struck<MH5221> them with the edge<MH6310> of the sword<MH2719>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>utterly<MH2763a> destroyed<MH2763a> every<MH3605> person<MH5315> <i>who was</i> in it. He left<MH7604> no<MH3808> survivor<MH8300>. Just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> he had done<MH6213a> to Hebron<MH2275a>, so<MH3651> he did<MH6213a> to Debir<MH1688> and its king<MH4428>, as he had also done<MH6213a> to Libnah<MH3841> and its king<MH4428>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/joshua/10-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>So Joshua<MH3091> struck<MH5221> all<MH3605> the land<MH776>, the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> and the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>Negev<MH5045> and the lowland<MH8219> and the slopes<MH794>, and all<MH3605> their kings<MH4428>.
