Then, if<MH518> there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> one<MH369> to save<MH3467> us, we will come<MH3318> out<MH3318> to you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Then the messengers<MH4397> came<MH935> to Gibeah<MH1390> of Saul<MH7586> and spoke<MH1696> <i>these</i> words<MH1697> in the hearing<MH241> of the people<MH5971a>, and all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> raised<MH5375> their voices<MH6963> and wept<MH1058>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Now behold<MH2009>, Saul<MH7586> was coming<MH935> from the field<MH7704> behind<MH310> the oxen<MH1241>, and Saul<MH7586> said<MH559>, “What<MH4100> is <i>the matter</i> with the people<MH5971a> that they weep<MH1058>?” So they reported<MH5608> to him the words<MH1697> of the men<MH376> of Jabesh<MH3003>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then the Spirit<MH7307> of God<MH430> rushed<MH6743a> upon<MH5921> Saul<MH7586> when he heard<MH8085> these<MH428> words<MH1697>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>he became<MH2734> very<MH3966> angry<MH639, 2734>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>He then took<MH3947> a yoke<MH6776> of oxen<MH1241> and cut<MH5408> them in<MH5408> pieces<MH5408>, and sent<MH7971> <i>them</i> throughout<MH3605> the territory<MH1366> of Israel<MH3478> by the hand<MH3027> of messengers<MH4397>, saying<MH559>, “Whoever<MH834> does not come<MH3318> out<MH3318> after<MH310> Saul<MH7586> and after<MH310> Samuel<MH8050>, the same<MH3541> shall be done<MH6213a> to his oxen<MH1241>.” Then the dread<MH6343> of the LORD<MH3068> fell<MH5307> on the people<MH5971a>, and they came<MH3318> out<MH3318> as one<MH259> person<MH376>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>He <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>counted<MH6485> them in Bezek<MH966>; and the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> were three<MH7969> hundred<MH3967> thousand<MH505>, and the men<MH376> of Judah<MH3063>, thirty<MH7970> thousand<MH505>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>They said<MH559> to the messengers<MH4397> who had come<MH935>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> you shall say<MH559> to the men<MH376> of Jabesh-gilead<MH3003, 1568>: ‘Tomorrow<MH4279>, by the time the sun<MH8121> is hot<MH2527>, you will be<MH1961> saved<MH8668>.’” So the messengers<MH4397> went<MH935> and told<MH5046> the men<MH376> of Jabesh<MH3003>; and they rejoiced<MH8055>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then the men<MH376> of Jabesh<MH3003> said<MH559>, “Tomorrow<MH4279> we will come<MH3318> out<MH3318> to you, and you may do<MH6213a> to us whatever<MH3605> seems good<MH2896a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>to you.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>The next<MH4283> morning<MH4283> Saul<MH7586> put<MH7760> the people<MH5971a> in three<MH7969> companies<MH7218>; and they came<MH935> into the midst<MH8432> of the camp<MH4264> at the morning<MH1242> watch<MH821>, and struck<MH5221> and<MH5221> killed<MH5221> the Ammonites<MH5983> until<MH5704> the heat<MH2527> of the day<MH3117>. And those who survived<MH7604> scattered<MH6327a>, so that no<MH3808> two<MH8147> of them were left<MH7604> together<MH3162>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then the people<MH5971a> said<MH559> to Samuel<MH8050>, “Who<MH4310> is he that said<MH559>, ‘Shall Saul<MH7586> reign<MH4427a> over<MH5921> us?’ <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Bring<MH5414> the men<MH376>, so that we may put<MH4191> them to<MH4191> death<MH4191>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But Saul<MH7586> said<MH559>, “Not a single<MH376> person<MH376> shall be put<MH4191> to<MH4191> death<MH4191> this<MH2088> day<MH3117>, for today<MH3117> the LORD<MH3068> has brought<MH6213a> about<MH6213a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>victory<MH8668> in Israel<MH3478>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then Samuel<MH8050> said<MH559> to the people<MH5971a>, “Come<MH1980>, and let us go<MH1980> to Gilgal<MH1537> and renew<MH2318> the kingdom<MH4410> there<MH8033>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_samuel/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>So all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> went<MH1980> to Gilgal<MH1537>, and there<MH8033> they made<MH4427a> Saul<MH7586> king<MH4427a> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> in Gilgal<MH1537>.
