Enter into my female Servant; doubtless I shall be comforted from her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/16-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>And Sarai, the wife of Abram, brought Hagar the Egyptian her Handmaid after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and she gave her as a wife to Abram her husband. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/16-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>And he entered into Hagar and she conceived, and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/genesis/16-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>And Sarai said to Abram, “My wrong is upon you! I have given my female Servant into your bosom, and when she saw that she conceived, I was despised in her eyes!
