class='col-sm-12'> <section> <p><em>Roads Could be Slippery During the Morning Commute</em></p> <p><br /><strong>TRENTON </strong>– A wintry mix of snow and rain is forecasted for northwest New Jersey tonight and early Monday morning that could make driving conditions slippery during tomorrow’s morning commute. The forecast is calling for a potential of up to a half-inch of snow in the higher elevations north of I-78 and west of I-287, before turning to rain on Monday.<br /><br />NJDOT is activating our crews in the region tonight and will be pretreating roads before the morning commute to ensure the safety of motorists. The Department is taking this proactive approach because of the increased traffic on several State Highways due to the closure of I-80 eastbound and westbound at Exit 34 in Wharton, Morris County.<br /><br />Motorists should plan extra travel time, particularly during the Monday morning commute in Morris, Sussex, Warren and northern parts of Hunterdon and Somerset counties as roads may be slippery. <br /><br />Commuters may want to consider taking public transportation or working from home if that is an option. NJ TRANSIT is offering a 50 percent discount on roundtrip travel for those affected by the ongoing emergency repair work on I-80. <br /><br />If you have to drive, slow down, use caution and plan accordingly.<br /><br />NJDOT will be using Variable Message Signs to provide updates.
