The king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>has laid<MH5564> siege<MH5564> to Jerusalem<MH3389> this<MH2088> very<MH6106> day<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Present<MH4911b> a parable<MH4912> to the rebellious<MH4805> house<MH1004> and say<MH559> to them, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">“Put<MH8239> on the pot<MH5518a>, put<MH8239> <i>it</i> on and also<MH1571> pour<MH3332> water<MH4325> into it; <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>Put<MH622> in it the pieces<MH5409> of<MH5409> meat<MH5409>, <t><p class="indent1">Every<MH3605> good<MH2896a> piece<MH5409>, the thigh<MH3409> and the shoulder<MH3802>; <t><p class="indent1">Fill<MH4390> <i>it</i> with choice<MH4005> bones<MH6106>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>“Take<MH3947> the choicest<MH4005> of the flock<MH6629>, <t><p class="indent1">And also<MH1571> stack<MH1754> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>wood<MH6086> under<MH8478> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>the pot. <t><p class="indent1">Make it boil<MH7570> vigorously<MH7571>. <t><p class="indent1">Also<MH1571> boil<MH1310> its bones<MH6106> in it.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>‘Therefore<MH3651>, this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">“Woe<MH188> to the bloody<MH1818> city<MH5892b>, <t><p class="indent1">To the pot<MH5518a> in which<MH834> there is rust<MH2457> <t><p class="indent1">And whose rust<MH2457> has not gone<MH3318> out<MH3318> of it! <t><p class="indent1">Take<MH3318> out<MH3318> of it piece<MH5409> after piece<MH5409>, <t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Without<MH3808> making<MH5307> a choice<MH1486>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>“For her blood<MH1818> is in her midst<MH8432>; <t><p class="indent1">She placed<MH7760> it on the bare<MH6706> rock<MH5553>; <t><p class="indent1">She did not pour<MH8210> it on the ground<MH776> <t><p class="indent1">To cover<MH3680> it with dust<MH6083>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“So that it may cause wrath<MH2534> to come<MH5927> up<MH5927> to take<MH5358> vengeance<MH5359>, <t><p class="indent1">I have put<MH5414> her blood<MH1818> on the bare<MH6706> rock<MH5553>, <t><p class="indent1">So that it will not be covered<MH3680>.” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651>, this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">“Woe<MH188> to the bloody<MH1818> city<MH5892b>! <t><p class="indent1">I also<MH1571> will make<MH1431> the wood<MH4071> pile<MH4071> great<MH1431>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>“Heap<MH7235a> on<MH7235a> the wood<MH6086>, kindle<MH1814> the fire<MH784>, <t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>Cook<MH8552> the meat<MH1320> thoroughly<MH8552> <t><p class="indent1">And mix<MH7543> in<MH7543> the spices<MH4841>, <t><p class="indent1">And let the bones<MH6106> be burned<MH2787> up. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>“Then set<MH5975> it empty<MH7386> on its burning<MH1513> coals<MH1513> <t><p class="indent1">So<MH4616> that<MH4616> it may be<MH2552> hot<MH2552> <t><p class="indent1">And its bronze<MH5178> may <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>glow<MH2787>, <t><p class="indent1">And its filthiness<MH2932a> may be melted<MH5413> in it, <t><p class="indent1">Its rust<MH2457> eliminated<MH8552>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“She has wearied<MH3811> <i>Me</i> with work<MH8383>, <t><p class="indent1">Yet her great<MH7227a> rust<MH2457> has not gone<MH3318> from her; <t><p class="indent1"><i>Let</i> her rust<MH2457> <i>be</i> in the fire<MH784>! <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>“In your filthiness<MH2932a> is outrageous<MH2154> sin<MH2154>. <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3282> I <i>would</i> have cleansed<MH2891> you, <t><p class="indent1">Yet you are<MH2891> not clean<MH2891>, <t><p class="indent1">You will not be cleansed<MH2891> from your filthiness<MH2932a> again<MH5750> <t><p class="indent1">Until<MH5704> I have <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>expended<MH5117> My wrath<MH2534> on you. <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>I, the LORD<MH3068>, have spoken<MH1696>; it is coming<MH935> and I will act<MH6213a>. I will not overlook<MH6544a>, I will not pity<MH2347>, and I will not be<MH5162> sorry<MH5162>; according to your ways<MH1870> and according to your deeds<MH5949> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>I will judge<MH8199> you,” declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>.’” <p class="hdg">Death of Ezekiel’s Wife Is a Sign</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to me, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“Son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, behold<MH2009>, I am about to take<MH3947> from you what<MH4261> is<MH4261> precious<MH4261> to your eyes<MH5869> with a fatal<MH4046> blow<MH4046>; but you shall not mourn<MH5594> and you shall not weep<MH1058>, and your tears<MH1832> shall not come<MH935>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Groan<MH602> silently<MH1826a>; do<MH6213a> no<MH3808> mourning<MH60> for the dead<MH4191>. Bind<MH2280> on your turban<MH6287b> and put<MH7760> your sandals<MH5275> on your feet<MH7272>, and do not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>cover<MH5844a> <i>your</i> mustache<MH8222>, and do not eat<MH398> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>bread<MH3899> of <i>other</i> people<MH376>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>So I spoke<MH1696> to the people<MH5971a> in the morning<MH1242>, and in the evening<MH6153> my wife<MH802> died<MH4191>. And in the morning<MH1242> I did<MH6213a> as I was commanded<MH6680>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And the people<MH5971a> said<MH559> to me, “Will you not tell<MH5046> us what<MH4100> these<MH428> things<MH428> <i>mean</i> for us, that you are doing<MH6213a>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Then I said<MH559> to them, “The word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> came<MH1961> to me, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>‘Speak<MH559> to the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068> says<MH559>: ‘Behold<MH2009>, I am about to profane<MH2490c> My sanctuary<MH4720>, the pride<MH1347b> of your power<MH5797>, that which<MH4261> is<MH4261> precious<MH4261> in your eyes<MH5869> and the longing<MH4263a> of your soul<MH5315>; and your sons<MH1121> and your daughters<MH1323> whom<MH834> you have left<MH5800a> behind<MH5800a> will fall<MH5307> by the sword<MH2719>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And you will do<MH6213a> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> I have done<MH6213a>; you will not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>cover<MH5844a> <i>your</i> mustache<MH8222>, and you will not eat<MH398> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>bread<MH3899> of <i>other</i> people<MH376>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Your turbans<MH6287b> will be on your heads<MH7218>, and your sandals<MH5275> on your feet<MH7272>. You will not mourn<MH5594> and you will not weep<MH1058>; but you will rot<MH4743> away<MH4743> in your guilty<MH5771> deeds<MH5771>, and you will groan<MH5098> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>to one<MH376> another<MH251>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So Ezekiel<MH3168> will be a sign<MH4159> to you; according to all<MH3605> that he has done<MH6213a>, you will do<MH6213a>. When it comes<MH935>, then you will know<MH3045> that I am the Lord<MH136> GOD<MH3068>.’” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>‘As for you, son<MH1121> of man<MH120>, will <i>it</i> not be on the day<MH3117> when I take<MH3947> from them their stronghold<MH4581>, the joy<MH4885> of their splendor<MH8597>, that which<MH4261> is precious<MH4261> in their eyes<MH5869> and their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>heart’s<MH5315> longing<MH4853a>, their sons<MH1121> and their daughters<MH1323>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>that on that day<MH3117> the one who<MH6412a> escapes<MH6412a> will come<MH935> to you with information<MH2045> for <i>your</i> ears<MH241>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/ezekiel/24-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>On that day<MH3117> your mouth<MH6310> will be opened<MH6605a> to him who<MH6412a> escaped<MH6412a>, and you will speak<MH1696> and no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> be silenced<MH481>.
