in the LGBT Rights division at Human Rights Watch. She joined the LGBT Rights division in 2012 after five years in the Africa Division at Human Rights Watch, where she covered human rights issues in Burundi and Kenya, including political repression, police abuse, justice sector reform, and transitional justice. As LGBT rights researcher, Ghoshal is currently conducting research on rights abuses affecting sexual and gender minorities and other marginalized groups in several African countries, including Tanzania and Cameroon. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Ghoshal was a human rights observer for the Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala. She investigated criminal cases in New York for the Bronx Defenders and was a founding member of the advocacy organization 24 Hours for Darfur. She also taught middle school in New York. Ghoshal holds a bachelor's in social justice studies from the University of Michigan and a master's in international relations from Yale University, where she concentrated in conflict, human rights, and transitional justice.
