<t><p class="indent1">From the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>body<MH4578> of My mother<MH517> He named<MH2142, 8034> Me. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>He has made<MH7760> My mouth<MH6310> like a sharp<MH2299> sword<MH2719>, <t><p class="indent1">In the shadow<MH6738> of His hand<MH3027> He has concealed<MH2244> Me; <t><p class="indent1">And He has also made<MH7760> Me a sharpened<MH1305> arrow<MH2671>, <t><p class="indent1">He has hidden<MH5641> Me in His quiver<MH827>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>He said<MH559> to Me, “You are My Servant<MH5650>, Israel<MH3478>, <t><p class="indent1">In whom<MH834> I will show<MH6286> My glory<MH6286>.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>But I said<MH559>, “I have labored<MH3021> in vain<MH7385b>, <t><p class="indent1">I have spent<MH3615> My strength<MH3581b> for nothing<MH8414> and futility<MH1892>; <t><p class="indent1">Nevertheless<MH403>, the justice<MH4941> <i>due</i> to Me is with the LORD<MH3068>, <t><p class="indent1">And My reward<MH6468> is with My God<MH430>.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And now<MH6258> says<MH559> the LORD<MH3068>, who formed<MH3335> Me from the womb<MH990> to be His Servant<MH5650>, <t><p class="indent1">To bring<MH7725> Jacob<MH3290> back<MH7725> to Him, so that Israel<MH3478> might be gathered<MH622> to Him <t><p class="indent1">(For I am honored<MH3513> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, <t><p class="indent1">And My God<MH430> is My strength<MH5797>), <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>He says<MH559>, “It is<MH7043> too<MH4480> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>small<MH7043> a thing<MH7043> that You should be My Servant<MH5650> <t><p class="indent1">To raise<MH6965> up<MH6965> the tribes<MH7626> of Jacob<MH3290> and to restore<MH7725> the protected<MH5336> ones of Israel<MH3478>; <t><p class="indent1">I will also make<MH5414> You a light<MH216> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>of the nations<MH1471> <t><p class="indent1">So that My salvation<MH3444> may <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>reach<MH1961> to the end<MH7097a> of the earth<MH776>.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068>, the Redeemer<MH1350> of Israel<MH3478> <i>and</i> its Holy<MH6918> One<MH6918>, <t><p class="indent1">Says<MH559> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>despised<MH960> One, <t><p class="indent1">To the One abhorred<MH8581> by the nation<MH1471>, <t><p class="indent1">To the Servant<MH5650> of rulers<MH4910>: <p class="indent1stline">“Kings<MH4428> will see<MH7200> and arise<MH6965>, <t><p class="indent1">Princes<MH8269> will also bow<MH2331c> down<MH2331c>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH4616> of the LORD<MH3068> who<MH834> is faithful<MH539>, the Holy<MH6918> One<MH6918> of Israel<MH3478> who has chosen<MH977> You.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">“At a favorable<MH7522> time<MH6256> I answered<MH6030a> You, <t><p class="indent1">And on a day<MH3117> of salvation<MH3444> I helped<MH5826> You; <t><p class="indent1">And I will watch<MH5341> over<MH5341> You and make<MH5414> You a covenant<MH1285> of the people<MH5971a>, <t><p class="indent1">To <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>restore<MH6965> the land<MH776>, to give<MH5157> as<MH5157> inheritances<MH5157> the deserted<MH8074> hereditary<MH5159> lands<MH5159>; <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Saying<MH559> to those who are bound<MH631>, ‘<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>Go<MH3318> free<MH3318>,’ <t><p class="indent1">To those who<MH834> are in darkness<MH2822>, ‘Show<MH1540> yourselves.’ <t><p class="indent1">They will feed<MH7462a> along<MH5921> the roads<MH1870>, <t><p class="indent1">And their pasture<MH4830> <i>will be</i> on all<MH3605> bare<MH8205> heights<MH8205>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>“They will not hunger<MH7456> or thirst<MH6770>, <t><p class="indent1">Nor<MH3808> will the scorching<MH8273> heat<MH8273> or sun<MH8121> strike<MH5221> them down<MH5221>; <t><p class="indent1">For He who has<MH7355> compassion<MH7355> on<MH7355> them will lead<MH5090a> them, <t><p class="indent1">And He will guide<MH5095> them to springs<MH4002> of water<MH4325>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>“I will make<MH7760> all<MH3605> My mountains<MH2022> a road<MH1870>, <t><p class="indent1">And My highways<MH4546> will be raised<MH7311> up<MH7311>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>“Behold<MH2009>, these<MH428> will come<MH935> from afar<MH7350>; <t><p class="indent1">And behold<MH2009>, these<MH428> <i>will come</i> from the north<MH6828> and from the west<MH3220>, <t><p class="indent1">And these<MH428> from the land<MH776> of Aswan<MH5515>.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Shout<MH7442> for<MH7442> joy<MH7442>, you heavens<MH8064>! And rejoice<MH1523>, you earth<MH776>! <t><p class="indent1">Break<MH6476> forth<MH6476> into joyful<MH7440> shouting<MH7440>, mountains<MH2022>! <t><p class="indent1">For the LORD<MH3068> has comforted<MH5162> His people<MH5971a> <t><p class="indent1">And will have<MH7355> compassion<MH7355> on<MH7355> His afflicted<MH6041>. <p class="hdg">Promise to Zion</p><poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But Zion<MH6726> said<MH559>, “The LORD<MH3068> has abandoned<MH5800a> me, <t><p class="indent1">And the Lord<MH136> has forgotten<MH7911> me.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“Can a woman<MH802> forget<MH7911> her nursing<MH5764> child<MH5764> <t><p class="indent1">And have<MH7355> no<MH4480> compassion<MH7355> on<MH7355> the son<MH1121> of her womb<MH990>? <t><p class="indent1">Even<MH1571> these<MH428> may forget<MH7911>, but I will not forget<MH7911> you. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“Behold<MH2005>, I have inscribed<MH2710> you on the palms<MH3709> <i>of My hands;</i> <t><p class="indent1">Your walls<MH2346> are continually<MH8548> before<MH5048> Me. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>“Your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>builders<MH1121> hurry<MH4116>; <t><p class="indent1">Your destroyers<MH2040> and devastators<MH2717b> <t><p class="indent1">Will leave<MH3318> you. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>“Raise<MH5375> your eyes<MH5869> and look<MH7200> around<MH5439>; <t><p class="indent1">All<MH3605> of them gather<MH6908> together, they come<MH935> to you. <t><p class="indent1">As I live<MH2416a>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, <p class="indent1stline">“You will certainly<MH3588> put<MH3847> them all<MH3605> on<MH3847> as <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>jewelry<MH5716> and bind<MH7194> them on as a bride<MH3618>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>“For your ruins<MH2723> and deserted<MH8074> places and your destroyed<MH2035> land<MH776>— <t><p class="indent1">Now<MH6258> you will certainly<MH3588> be<MH6887a> too<MH4480> cramped<MH6887a> for the inhabitants<MH3427>, <t><p class="indent1">And those who swallowed<MH1104> you will be<MH7368> far<MH7368> away<MH7368>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>“The children<MH1121> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>you lost<MH7923> will yet<MH5750> say<MH559> in your ears<MH241>, <t><p class="indent1">‘The place<MH4725> is too cramped<MH6862a> for me; <t><p class="indent1">Make<MH5066> room<MH5066> for me that I may live<MH3427> <i>here.</i>’ <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/isaiah/49-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>“Then you will say<MH559> in your heart<MH3824>, <t><p class="indent1">‘Who<MH4310> has fathered<MH3205> these<MH428> for me, <t><p class="indent1">Since I have been bereaved<MH7909a> of<MH7909a> my children<MH7909a> <t><p class="indent1">And cannot<MH1565> conceive<MH1565>, <i>and I am</i> an exile<MH1540>, and a wanderer<MH5493>?
