He is also Deputy Director of the <a href="https://ropboticvision.org">ARC Centre of Excellence in Robotic Vision</a>, in which capacity he also co-chaired sub-committees of the <a href="https://roboticvision.org/https://www.roboticvision.org/robotics-roadmap-2/">National Roadmap for Robotics</a> produced and published by the Centre in 2018. </p> <p> Between 2000 and 2012 he was a Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. where, together with long-time colleague Prof. David Murray, he ran the <a href="http://www.robots.ox.ac.uk/~lav">Active Vision Group</a> which is part of the wider <a href="http://www.robots.ox.ac.uk" title="Robots Homepage">Robotics Research Group</a> </p> <p> He received a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics with first class honours from University of Western Australia in 1987 and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 1988 to study at the University of Oxford, where he obtained a D.Phil. in 1992. </p> <p> His research interests include robotic and active vision, visual tracking, SLAM, human motion capture and intelligent visual surveillance, with an emphasis on real-time implementations whenever possible. Increasingly his work is impacted by, and contributes to machine learning, especially at the intersection of machine learning and computer vision and robotics. </p> <p> He has published 200 papers and attracted more than 21000 citations (h-index 70). He serves on the program committees of various national and international conferences, including as Program Chair for the Asian Conference on Computer Vision 2014 and General Chair Asian Conference on Computer Vision 2018.
