Adını, 15. âyette Allah’ın âyetlerine iman edenler tasvir edilirken geçen “sücced” (secde edenler) kelimesinden almıştır. Sûre, 16. âyette yine müminlerin vasıfları belirtilirken kullanılan “rablerine ibadet etmek amacıyla vücutları yataklarından uzak kalanlar” meâlindeki ifadede “medâci‘” (yataklar) kelimesinin yer almasından dolayı Medâci‘ sûresi olarak da anılır. Ayrıca sûrenin ikinci kelimesi secde lafzına izâfe edilerek Tenzîlü’s-secde ve diğer adı Secde sûresi olan Fussılet sûresinden ayırt etmek üzere bir önceki sûrenin adına bağlanarak Secdetü Lokmân diye de isimlendirilmiştir (Âlûsî, XXI, 155; Elmalılı, V, 3856; M. Tâhir İbn Âşûr, XXI, 138-140). Sûre otuz âyet olup fâsılaları <span class="arapca" dir="rtl">ل، م، ن</span> harfleridir. </p><p> Secde sûresinin muhtevası Allah’ın varlığı, Kur’an’ın vahiy ürünü olduğu, ceza ve mükâfat günü olan kıyamette herkesin dünyada yaptıklarından sorumlu tutulacağı temel fikri etrafındaki hitap ve beyanlardan ibarettir. Birinci bölüm, Kur’an’ın insanları uyarmak maksadıyla indirilmiş vahiy ürünü bir kitap olduğunun beyanıyla başlar. Ardından bütün kâinatı en güzel şekilde yaratıp yöneten, ilk insanı çamurdan yaratıp insan türünü devam ettirecek öz suyu var eden aziz ve rahîm Allah’ın bir ve tek olduğu, insanların O’ndan başka başvuracağı bir yardımcısı ve dostunun bulunmadığı ifade edilir; buna rağmen söz konusu gerçeğin bilincine varıp Allah’a şükredenlerin sayısının pek az olduğu belirtilir (âyet 1-9). </p><p> İkinci bölüm öldükten sonra dirilmeyi garipseyen, dünyada bunca nimetine mazhar olduğu Cenâb-ı Hakk’a kavuşmayı arzu etmeyen âhiret münkirlerinin orada karşılaşacakları kötü durumlara ve hiçbir fayda sağlamayacak pişmanlıklarına temas etmekle başlar. Ardından Allah’ın âyetlerine iman eden, onların etkisiyle secdeye kapanan, rablerini övgü ile anıp yücelten, dinin hükümlerine karşı büyüklük taslamayan, uykularından fedakârlık edip rablerine dua ve niyazda bulunan, ellerindeki imkânlardan başkalarını faydalandıran kimselerin tasavvur edilemeyecek nimetlere kavuşturulacağı ifade edilir. Müminle münkirin hiçbir zaman eşit tutulamayacağı belirtilerek her iki zümrenin yine ebediyet âlemindeki hayatlarına değinilir, inkârcıların âhiretin büyük azabından önce dünyada da sıkıntı ve yenilgiye uğrayacağı haber verilir (âyet 10-22). </p><p> Sûrenin son bölümünde Hz. Mûsâ ve mensupları örnek gösterilerek Kur’an’ın o günkü muhataplarının, yaşadıkları bölgelerde kalıntıları üzerinde gezip dolaştıkları geçmiş milletlerin âkıbetlerinden ibret almaları gerektiği vurgulanır. Allah’ın, suyu kupkuru yerlere ulaştırarak onunla insanların gerek kendilerinin gerekse hayvanlarının gıdasını sağlayan bitki ve ekinleri çıkardığı hatırlatılır. Sûre müşriklerin müslümanlarla alay ederek yönelttikleri, bekledikleri zaferin ne zaman gerçekleşeceği sorusuna cevap olarak dünyada kısmen, âhirette ise tamamen vuku bulacak zafer gününde kimsenin zoraki imanının fayda sağlamayacağının belirtilmesi ve, “Sen ey peygamber, onları kendi hallerine bırak ve geleceği bekle, zaten onların da beklemekten başka yapacağı bir şey yoktur” cümlesiyle sona erer (âyet 23-30). </p><p> Müşriklere ve onların inatçı ileri gelenlerine sözle anlatılacak hemen her şeyin söylendiği bir dönemde nâzil olan Secde sûresi gerçeklere açık olan zihinleri ve kalpleri etkileyecek mesajlar içermektedir. Bu mesajlar müminlere mânevî güç verdiği gibi vicdanları kararmış insanlara karşı aynı mücadeleyi tekrar etmek yerine İslâm’ın güzelliklerini başka ortamlara taşıma bilincini uyandırmıştır. Nitekim kısa bir zaman sonra Cenâb-ı Hak’tan Medine’ye hicret izni gelmiştir. </p><p> Secde sûresi Hz. Peygamber’e İncil mukabilinde verilen sûrelerden (mesânî) biridir. Resûlullah’ın gece uyumadan önce Secde ve Mülk sûrelerini (<span class="kisaltma" data-ad="musned"><i>Müsned</i></span>, III, 340; Tirmizî, “Feżâʾilü’l-Ḳurʾân”, 9; Dârimî, “Feżâʾilü’l-Ḳurʾân”, 19), diğer bir rivayette ise cuma gününün sabah namazında Secde ve İnsân sûrelerini (Buhârî, “Cumʿa”, 10; Müslim, “Cumʿa”, 64-66; krş. İbrâhim Ali es-Seyyid Ali Îsâ, s. 283-292) okuduğu nakledilmiştir. Bazı tefsir kitaplarında yer alan, “Secde ve Mülk sûrelerini okuyan kimseye Kadir gecesini ihya etmiş gibi sevap verilir”; “Secde sûresini okuyan kimsenin evine üç gün süreyle şeytan giremez” meâlindeki hadislerin (Zemahşerî, V, 40; Beyzâvî, III, 370) sıhhati tesbit edilememiştir (Zemahşerî, I, 684-685 [nâşirlerin notu]; Muhammed et-Trablusî, II, 719).
