Its primary goal is the detection of solar axions following the axion helioscope technique. Axions are converted into photons in a large magnet that is pointing to the sun. The resulting X-rays are focused by appropriate X-ray optics and detected by sensitive low-background detectors placed at the focal spot. The aim of this article is to provide an accurate quantitative description of the different components (such as the magnet, optics, and X-ray detectors) involved in the detection of axions. Our efforts have focused on developing robust and integrated software tools to model these helioscope components, enabling future assessments of modifications or upgrades to any part of the IAXO axion helioscope and evaluating the potential impact on the experiment&#39;s sensitivity. In this manuscript, we demonstrate the application of these tools by presenting a precise signal calculation and response analysis of BabyIAXO&#39;s sensitivity to the axion-photon coupling. Though focusing on the Primakoff solar flux component, our virtual helioscope model can be used to test different production mechanisms, allowing for direct comparisons within a unified framework. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2411.13915v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2411.13915v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 29 November, 2024; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 21 November, 2024; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> November 2024. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">36 pages, 18 figures, 4 tables, Submitted to JHEP</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2310.17636">arXiv:2310.17636</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2310.17636">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2310.17636">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Magnetic microcalorimeters for primary activity standardization within the EMPIR project PrimA-LTD </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=M%C3%BCller%2C+M">Michael M眉ller</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Rodrigues%2C+M">Matias Rodrigues</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Beyer%2C+J">J枚rn Beyer</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Loidl%2C+M">Martin Loidl</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Kempf%2C+S">Sebastian Kempf</a> </p> <p class="abstract mathjax"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Abstract</span>: <span class="abstract-short has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="2310.17636v2-abstract-short" style="display: inline;"> The precision of existing decay data of radionuclides for activity determination is often a limitation for actual applications in science, society, and industry. For this reason, the EMPIR project PrimA-LTD aims to introduce an advanced primary activity standardization technique that is based on magnetic microcalorimeters (MMCs) and that will offer very low energy threshold of few eV and a decay scheme independent detection efficiency close to 100%. As a proof of concept, we developed two MMC-based detector types in order to standardize an $伪$-decaying, a $尾$-decaying and an electron capture decaying isotope. One detector type aims to introduce a reusable detector setup, while the other aims to provide highly accurate decay spectra by high resolution measurements with high statistics. We present the designs, fabrication status and first characterization measurements of both detectors types and outline next steps. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2310.17636v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2310.17636v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 15 December, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 26 October, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> October 2023. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">This manuscript was submitted to the Journal of Low Temperature Physics as part of the special issue &#34;LTD20&#34;, supporting the conference contribution TP-065</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2309.14014">arXiv:2309.14014</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2309.14014">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2309.14014">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Theory">nucl-th</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> High precision measurement of the $^{99}$Tc $尾$ spectrum </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Paulsen%2C+M">Michael Paulsen</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Ranitzsch%2C+P">Philipp Ranitzsch</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Loidl%2C+M">Martin Loidl</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Rodrigues%2C+M">Matias Rodrigues</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Kossert%2C+K">Karsten Kossert</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Mougeot%2C+X">Xavier Mougeot</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Singh%2C+A">Abilasha Singh</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Leblond%2C+S">Sylvain Leblond</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Beyer%2C+J">J枚rn Beyer</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bockhorn%2C+L">Lina Bockhorn</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Enss%2C+C">Christian Enss</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Wegner%2C+M">Mathias Wegner</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Kempf%2C+S">Sebastian Kempf</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=N%C3%A4hle%2C+O">Ole N盲hle</a> </p> <p class="abstract mathjax"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Abstract</span>: <span class="abstract-short has-text-grey-dark mathjax" id="2309.14014v3-abstract-short" style="display: inline;"> Highly precise measurements of the $^{99}$Tc beta spectrum were performed in two laboratories using metallic magnetic calorimeters. Independent sample preparations, evaluation methods and analyses yield consistent results and the spectrum could be measured down to less than 1 keV. Consistent beta spectra were also obtained via cross-evaluations of the experimental data sets. An additional independent measurement with silicon detectors in a $4蟺$ configuration confirms the spectrum shape above 25 keV. Detailed theoretical calculations were performed including nuclear structure and atomic effects. The spectrum shape was found to be sensitive to the effective value of the axial-vector coupling constant. Combining measurements and predictions, we extracted $Q_尾=$295.82(16) keV and $g_A^{\text{eff}} = 1.530 (83)$. Furthermore, we derived the mean energy of the beta spectrum $\overline{E}_尾$=98.45(20) keV, $\log f = -0.47660 (22)$ and $\log ft = 12.3478 (23)$. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2309.14014v3-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2309.14014v3-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 4 October, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 25 September, 2023; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> September 2023. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">15 pages, 9 figures, adjusted the legend symbols in figures 6-9 to the format (italics, subscripts etc.) used in the text [version 2], corrected assignment of author affiliations and capital lettering in references [version 3]</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2010.12076">arXiv:2010.12076</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2010.12076">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2010.12076">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics">astro-ph.IM</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Conceptual Design of BabyIAXO, the intermediate stage towards the International Axion Observatory </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Abeln%2C+A">A. IAXO is a large-scale axion helioscope that will look for axions and axion-like particles (ALPs), produced in the Sun, with unprecedented sensitivity. BabyIAXO is conceived to test all IAXO subsystems (magnet, optics and detectors) at a relevant scale for the final system and thus serve as prototype for IAXO, but at the same time as a fully-fledged helioscope with relevant physics reach itself, and with potential for discovery. The BabyIAXO magnet will feature two 10 m long, 70 cm diameter bores, and will host two detection lines (optics and detector) of dimensions similar to the final ones foreseen for IAXO. BabyIAXO will detect or reject solar axions or ALPs with axion-photon couplings down to $g_{a纬} \sim 1.5 \times 10^{-11}$ GeV$^{-1}$, and masses up to $m_a\sim 0.25$ eV. BabyIAXO will offer additional opportunities for axion research in view of IAXO, like the development of precision x-ray detectors to identify particular spectral features in the solar axion spectrum, and the implementation of radiofrequency-cavity-based axion dark matter setups. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2010.12076v3-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2010.12076v3-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 4 March, 2021; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 22 October, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> October 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">77 pages, 49 figures. Large mass ($\sim$1~kg), high optical quality, radiopure $^{100}$Mo-containing zinc and lithium molybdate crystals have been produced and used to develop high performance single detector modules based on 0.2--0.4~kg scintillating bolometers. In particular, the energy resolution of the lithium molybdate detectors near the $Q$-value of the double-beta transition of $^{100}$Mo (3034~keV) is 4--6~keV FWHM. The rejection of the $伪$-induced dominant background above 2.6~MeV is better than 8$蟽$. Less than 10~$渭$Bq/kg activity of $^{232}$Th ($^{228}$Th) and $^{226}$Ra in the crystals is ensured by boule recrystallization. The potential of $^{100}$Mo-enriched scintillating bolometers to perform high sensitivity double-beta decay searches has been demonstrated with only 10~kg$\times$d exposure: the two neutrino double-beta decay half-life of $^{100}$Mo has been measured with the up-to-date highest accuracy as $T_{1/2}$ = [6.90 $\pm$ 0.15(stat.) $\pm$ 0.37(syst.)] $\times$ 10$^{18}$~yr. Both crystallization and detector technologies favor lithium molybdate, which has been selected for the ongoing construction of the CUPID-0/Mo demonstrator, containing several kg of $^{100}$Mo. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1704.01758v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1704.01758v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 4 October, 2017; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 6 April, 2017; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> April 2017. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">25 pages, 12 figures, 8 tables; submitted to EPJC</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Eur. High energy resolution and relatively fast detectors, which are able to measure both the light and the heat generated upon the interaction of a particle in a crystal, are very promising for the recognition and rejection of background events. We present the LUMINEU concepts and the experimental results achieved aboveground and underground with large-mass natural and enriched crystals. The measured energy resolution, the $伪/尾$ discrimination power and the radioactive internal contamination are all within the specifications for the projected final LUMINEU sensitivity. Simulations and preliminary results confirm that the LUMINEU technology can reach zero background in the region of interest (around 3 MeV) with exposures of the order of hundreds kg$\times$years, setting the bases for a next generation $0\nu2尾$ decay experiment capable to explore the inverted hierarchy region of the neutrino mass pattern. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1601.04989v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1601.04989v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 19 January, 2016; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> January 2016. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">5 pages, 3 figures, submitted as proceedings of the TAUP 2015 conference</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1512.07393">arXiv:1512.07393</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1512.07393">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/ps/1512.07393">ps</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1512.07393">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Proceedings of the third French-Ukrainian workshop on the instrumentation developments for HEP </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Alessio%2C+F">F. Advanced ZnMoO$_4$ crystal scintillators with mass of $\sim$~0.3 kg were developed and Zn$^{100}$MoO$_4$ crystal from enriched $^{100}$Mo was produced for the first time by using the low-thermal-gradient Czochralski technique. One ZnMoO$_4$ scintillator and two samples (59 g and 63 g) cut from the enriched boule were tested aboveground at milli-Kelvin temperature as scintillating bolometers showing a high detection performance. The first results of the low background measurements with three ZnMoO$_4$ and two enriched detectors installed in the EDELWEISS set-up at the Modane Underground Laboratory (France) are presented. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1502.01161v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1502.01161v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 4 February, 2015; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> February 2015. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">7 pages, 5 figures, Contribution to the proceedings of the 37th International Conference on High Energy Physics (ICHEP 2014), Valencia, Spain, 2-9 July 2014</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> Nuclear and Particle Physics Proceedings 273-275 (2016) 1801-1806 </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1312.3515">arXiv:1312.3515</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1312.3515">pdf</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Detectors">physics.ins-det</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Nuclear Experiment">nucl-ex</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1051/epjconf/20136503001">10.1051/epjconf/20136503001 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Purification of molybdenum oxide, growth and characterization of medium size zinc molybdate crystals for the LUMINEU program </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Shlegel%2C+V+N">V. Growth of high quality radiopure crystals is a complex task, since there are no commercially available molybdenum compounds with the required levels of purity and radioactive contamination. This paper discusses approaches to purify molybdenum and synthesize compound for high quality radiopure ZnMoO4 crystal growth. A combination of a double sublimation (with addition of zinc molybdate) with subsequent recrystallization in aqueous solutions (using zinc molybdate as a collector) was used. Zinc molybdate crystals up to 1.5 kg were grown by the low-thermal-gradient Czochralski technique, their optical, luminescent, diamagnetic, thermal and bolometric properties were tested. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1312.3515v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1312.3515v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 12 December, 2013; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> December 2013. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Contribution to Proc. of Int.
