<t>Yes, listen<MH8085> to Israel<MH3478> your father<MH1>. <poetry><a href="/genesis/49-3.htm">3</a>“Reuben<MH7205>, you are my firstborn<MH1060>, <t>My might<MH3581b> and the beginning<MH7225> of my strength<MH202>, <t>Preeminent<MH3499a> in dignity<MH7613> and preeminent<MH3499a> in power<MH5794>. <poetry><a href="/genesis/49-4.htm">4</a>“<a href="#fn">[b]</a>Uncontrollable<MH6349> as water<MH4325>, you shall not have<MH3498> preeminence<MH3498>, <t>Because<MH3588> you went<MH5927> up<MH5927> to your father’s<MH1> bed<MH4904>; <t>Then<MH227> you defiled<MH2490c> it—he went<MH5927> up<MH5927> to my couch<MH3326>. <poetry><a href="/genesis/49-5.htm">5</a>“Simeon<MH8095> and Levi<MH3878> are brothers<MH251>; <t>Their <a href="#fn">[c]</a>swords<MH4380> are implements<MH3627> of violence<MH2555>. <poetry><a href="/genesis/49-6.htm">6</a>“May my soul<MH5315> not enter<MH935> into their council<MH5475>; He blessed<MH1288> them, every<MH376> one<MH376> <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>with the blessing<MH1293> appropriate to him.
