Elisha<MH477> the prophet<MH5030> summoned<MH7121> one<MH259> of the sons<MH1121> of the prophets<MH5030> and said<MH559> to him, “<a href="#fn">[a]</a>Get<MH2296, 4975> ready<MH2296, 4975> and take<MH3947> this<MH2088> flask<MH6378> of oil<MH8081> in your hand<MH3027>, and go<MH1980> to Ramoth-gilead<MH7433>. <a href="/2_kings/9-2.htm">2</a>When you arrive<MH935> there<MH8033>, then look<MH7200> there<MH8033> for Jehu<MH3058> the son<MH1121> of Jehoshaphat<MH3092> the son<MH1121> of Nimshi<MH5250>, and go<MH935> in<MH935> and have him get<MH6965> up<MH6965> from among<MH8432> his brothers<MH251>, and bring<MH935> him to an inner<MH2315> room<MH2315>. <a href="/2_kings/9-3.htm">3</a>Then take<MH3947> the flask<MH6378> of oil<MH8081> and pour<MH3332> it on his head<MH7218>, and say<MH559>, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “I have anointed<MH4886> you king<MH4428> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478>.”’ Then open<MH6605a> the door<MH1817> and flee<MH5127>, and do not wait<MH2442>.” <a href="/2_kings/9-4.htm">4</a>So the young<MH5288> man<MH5288>, the servant<MH5288> of the prophet<MH5030>, went<MH1980> to Ramoth-gilead<MH7433>. <a href="/2_kings/9-5.htm">5</a>When he arrived<MH935>, behold<MH2009>, the commanders<MH8269> of the army<MH2428> were sitting<MH3427>, and he said<MH559>, “I have a word<MH1697> for you, commander<MH8269>.” And Jehu<MH3058> said<MH559>, “<a href="#fn">[b]</a>For which<MH4310> one of us?” And he said<MH559>, “For you, commander<MH8269>.” <a href="/2_kings/9-6.htm">6</a>He then got<MH6965> up<MH6965> and went<MH935> into the house<MH1004>, and the prophet’s servant poured<MH3332> the oil<MH8081> on his head<MH7218> and said<MH559> to him, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: ‘I have anointed<MH4886> you king<MH4428> over<MH413> the people<MH5971a> of the LORD<MH3068>, over<MH413> Israel<MH3478>. <a href="/2_kings/9-7.htm">7</a>And you shall strike<MH5221> the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256> your master<MH113>, so that I may avenge<MH5358> the blood<MH1818> of My servants<MH5650> the prophets<MH5030>, and the blood<MH1818> of all<MH3605> the servants<MH5650> of the LORD<MH3068>, at the hand<MH3027> of Jezebel<MH348>. <a href="/2_kings/9-8.htm">8</a>For the entire<MH3605> house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256> shall perish<MH6>, and I will eliminate<MH3772> from Ahab<MH256> every<MH8366> male<MH8366, 7023> person both <a href="#fn">[c]</a>slave<MH6113> and free<MH5800a> in Israel<MH3478>. <a href="/2_kings/9-9.htm">9</a>I will make<MH5414> the house<MH1004> of Ahab<MH256> like the house<MH1004> of Jeroboam<MH3379> the son<MH1121> of Nebat<MH5028>, and like the house<MH1004> of Baasha<MH1201> the son<MH1121> of Ahijah<MH281>. <a href="/2_kings/9-10.htm">10</a>The dogs<MH3611> will eat<MH398> Jezebel<MH348> in the territory<MH2506> of Jezreel<MH3157>, and no<MH369> one<MH369> will bury<MH6912> her.’” Then he opened<MH6605a> the door<MH1817> and fled<MH5127>. <a href="/2_kings/9-11.htm">11</a>Now Jehu<MH3058> went<MH3318> out<MH3318> to the servants<MH5650> of his master<MH113>, and one said<MH559> to him, “Is everything<MH7965> well<MH7965>? Why<MH4069> did this<MH2088> crazy<MH7696> fellow<MH7696> come<MH935> to you?” And he said<MH559> to them, “You know<MH3045> very well the man<MH376> and his talk<MH7879>.” <a href="/2_kings/9-12.htm">12</a>And they said<MH559>, “It is a lie<MH8267>; tell<MH5046> us now<MH4994>.” And he said<MH559>, “Such<MH2088> and such<MH2088> he said<MH559> to me, saying<MH559>, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: “I have anointed<MH4886> you king<MH4428> over<MH413> Israel<MH3478>.”’” <a href="/2_kings/9-13.htm">13</a>Then they hurried<MH4116>, and each<MH376> man<MH376> took<MH3947> his garment<MH899b> and put<MH7760> it under<MH8478> him on the bare<MH1634> steps<MH4609b>, and blew<MH8628> the trumpet<MH7782>, saying<MH559>, “Jehu<MH3058> is<MH4427a> king<MH4427a>!” Jehu Assassinates Jehoram (Joram)<a href="/2_kings/9-14.htm">14</a>So Jehu<MH3058> the son<MH1121> of Jehoshaphat<MH3092> the son<MH1121> of Nimshi<MH5250> conspired<MH7194> against<MH413> Joram<MH3141>. Now Joram<MH3141> <a href="#fn">[d]</a>with all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> was <a href="#fn">[e]</a>defending<MH8104> Ramoth-gilead<MH7433> against<MH4480, 6440> Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758>, <a href="/2_kings/9-15.htm">15</a>but King<MH4428> <a href="#fn">[f]</a>Joram<MH3088> had returned<MH7725> to Jezreel<MH3157> to have himself healed<MH7495> of the wounds<MH4347> which<MH834> the Arameans<MH761> had <a href="#fn">[g]</a>inflicted<MH5221> on him when he fought<MH3898a> Hazael<MH2371> king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758>. So Jehu<MH3058> said<MH559> to the other men, “If<MH518> this is your <a href="#fn">[h]</a>intent<MH5315>, then let no<MH408> <a href="#fn">[i]</a>one<MH6412a> escape<MH6412a, 3318> from the city<MH5892b> to go<MH1980> tell<MH5046> about it in Jezreel<MH3157>.” <a href="/2_kings/9-16.htm">16</a>Then Jehu<MH3058> rode<MH7392> in<MH7392> a<MH7392> chariot<MH7392> and went<MH1980> to Jezreel<MH3157>, since<MH3588> Joram<MH3141> was lying<MH7901> there<MH8033> recovering. And Ahaziah<MH274> the king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> had come<MH3381> down<MH3381> to see<MH7200> Joram<MH3141>. <a href="/2_kings/9-17.htm">17</a>Now the watchman<MH6822> was standing<MH5975> on the tower<MH4026> in Jezreel<MH3157> and he saw<MH7200> the <a href="#fn">[j]</a>company<MH8229> of Jehu<MH3058> as he came<MH935>, and he said<MH559>, “I see<MH7200> a <a href="#fn">[k]</a>company<MH8229>.” And <a href="#fn">[l]</a>Joram<MH3088> said<MH559>, “Take<MH3947> a horseman<MH7395> and send<MH7971> him to meet<MH7122> them and have him <a href="#fn">[m]</a>ask<MH559>, ‘Is your intention peace<MH7965>?’” <a href="/2_kings/9-18.htm">18</a>So a horseman<MH7392, 5483b> went<MH1980> to meet<MH7122> him and said<MH559>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the king<MH4428> says<MH559>: ‘Is your intention peace<MH7965>?’” But Jehu<MH3058> said<MH559>, “<a href="#fn">[n]</a>How<MH4100> is peace<MH7965> any business of yours? Turn<MH5437> and follow<MH310> me.” And the watchman<MH6822> <a href="#fn">[o]</a>reported<MH5046>, “The messenger<MH4397> came<MH935> to them, but he did not return<MH7725>.” <a href="/2_kings/9-19.htm">19</a>Then he sent<MH7971> a second<MH8145> horseman<MH7392, 5483b>, and he came<MH935> to them and said<MH559>, “This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the king<MH4428> says<MH559>: ‘Is your intention peace<MH7965>?’” And Jehu<MH3058> <a href="#fn">[p]</a>answered<MH559>, “<a href="#fn">[q]</a>How<MH4100> is peace<MH7965> any business of yours? Turn<MH5437> and follow<MH310> me.” <a href="/2_kings/9-20.htm">20</a>And the watchman<MH6822> <a href="#fn">[r]</a>reported<MH5046>, “He came<MH935> up to them, but he did not return<MH7725>; and the <a href="#fn">[s]</a>driving<MH4491> is like the driving<MH4491> of Jehu<MH3058> the son<MH1121> of Nimshi<MH5250>, for he drives<MH5090a> furiously<MH7697>.” <a href="/2_kings/9-21.htm">21</a>Then <a href="#fn">[t]</a>Joram<MH3088> said<MH559>, “<a href="#fn">[u]</a>Get<MH631> ready<MH631>.” And they <a href="#fn">[v]</a>made<MH631> his chariot<MH7393> ready<MH631>. Then <a href="#fn">[w]</a>Joram<MH3088> king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> and Ahaziah<MH274> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> went<MH3318> out<MH3318>, each<MH376> in his chariot<MH7393>, and they went<MH3318> out<MH3318> to meet<MH7122> Jehu<MH3058> and found<MH4672> him on the <a href="#fn">[x]</a>property<MH2513a> of Naboth<MH5022> the Jezreelite<MH3158>. <a href="/2_kings/9-22.htm">22</a>When <a href="#fn">[y]</a>Joram<MH3088> saw<MH7200> Jehu<MH3058>, he said<MH559>, “Is your intention peace<MH7965>, Jehu<MH3058>?” And he <a href="#fn">[z]</a>answered<MH559>, “What<MH4100> ‘peace<MH7965>,’ so<MH5704> long<MH5704> as your mother<MH517> Jezebel’s<MH348> acts of prostitution<MH2183> and witchcraft<MH3785> are so many<MH7227a>?” <a href="/2_kings/9-23.htm">23</a>So <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>Joram<MH3088> <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>turned<MH2015, 3027> back<MH2015> and fled<MH5127>, and he said<MH559> to Ahaziah<MH274>, “There is treachery<MH4820>, Ahaziah<MH274>!” <a href="/2_kings/9-24.htm">24</a>Then Jehu<MH3058> <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>drew<MH4390> his bow<MH7198> with his full<MH4390> strength<MH3027> and <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>shot<MH5221> <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>Joram<MH3088> between<MH996> his arms<MH2220>; and the arrow<MH2678> went<MH3318> <a href="#fn">[af]</a>through<MH3318> his heart<MH3820>, and he sank<MH3766> in his chariot<MH7393>. <a href="/2_kings/9-25.htm">25</a>And Jehu said<MH559> to Bidkar<MH920> his officer<MH7991c>, “Pick<MH5375> him up<MH5375> and throw<MH7993> him on the <a href="#fn">[ag]</a>property<MH2513a> of the field<MH7704> of Naboth<MH5022> the Jezreelite<MH3158>; for remember<MH2142>, when <a href="#fn">[ah]</a>you and I were riding<MH7392> together<MH6776> after<MH310> his father<MH1> Ahab<MH256>, that the LORD<MH3068> brought<MH5375> this<MH2088> pronouncement<MH4853b> against<MH5921> him: <a href="/2_kings/9-26.htm">26</a>‘I have certainly<MH518, 3808> seen<MH7200> yesterday<MH570> the blood<MH1818> of Naboth<MH5022> and the blood<MH1818> of his sons<MH1121>,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, ‘and I will repay<MH7999a> you on this<MH2088> <a href="#fn">[ai]</a>property<MH2513a>,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. Now<MH6258> then, pick<MH5375> him up<MH5375> and throw<MH7993> him on the <a href="#fn">[aj]</a>property<MH2513a>, in accordance with the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>.” Jehu Assassinates Ahaziah<a href="/2_kings/9-27.htm">27</a>When Ahaziah<MH274> the king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> saw<MH7200> this, he fled<MH5127> by way<MH1870> of the garden<MH1588> house<MH1004>. But Jehu<MH3058> pursued<MH7291> him and said<MH559>, “<a href="#fn">[ak]</a>Shoot<MH5221> him too<MH1571>, in the chariot<MH4818>.” So they shot him at the ascent<MH4608> of Gur<MH1483>, which<MH834> is at Ibleam<MH2991>. But he fled<MH5127> to Megiddo<MH4023b> and died<MH4191> there<MH8033>. <a href="/2_kings/9-28.htm">28</a>Then his servants<MH5650> carried<MH7392> him in<MH7392> a<MH7392> chariot<MH7392> to Jerusalem<MH3389>, and buried<MH6912> him in his grave<MH6900> with his fathers<MH1> in the city<MH5892b> of David<MH1732>. <a href="/2_kings/9-29.htm">29</a>Now in the eleventh<MH259, 6240> year<MH8141> of Joram<MH3141>, the son<MH1121> of Ahab<MH256>, Ahaziah<MH274> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> over<MH5921> Judah<MH3063>. <a href="/2_kings/9-30.htm">30</a>When Jehu<MH3058> came<MH935> to Jezreel<MH3157>, Jezebel<MH348> heard<MH8085> about it, and she put<MH7760> makeup<MH6320> on her eyes<MH5869> and adorned<MH3190> her head<MH7218>, and looked<MH8259> down<MH8259> through<MH1157> the window<MH2474>. <a href="/2_kings/9-31.htm">31</a>As Jehu<MH3058> entered<MH935> the gate<MH8179>, she said<MH559>, “Is your intention peace<MH7965>, Zimri<MH2174a>, his master’s<MH113> murderer<MH2026>?” <a href="/2_kings/9-32.htm">32</a>Then he raised<MH5375> his face<MH6440> toward<MH413> the window<MH2474> and said<MH559>, “Who<MH4310> is with me, who<MH4310>?” And two<MH8147> or three<MH7969> officials<MH5631> looked<MH8259> down<MH8259> at him. Jezebel Is Killed<a href="/2_kings/9-33.htm">33</a>Then he said<MH559>, “Throw<MH8058> her down<MH8058>.” So they threw<MH8058> her down<MH8058>, and some<MH4480> of her blood<MH1818> spattered<MH5137a> on the wall<MH7023> and on the horses<MH5483b>, and he trampled<MH7429> her underfoot<MH7429>. <a href="/2_kings/9-34.htm">34</a>When he came<MH935> in<MH935>, he ate<MH398> and drank<MH8354>; and he said<MH559>, “See<MH6485> now<MH4994> to this<MH2088> cursed<MH779> woman<MH779> and bury<MH6912> her, for she is a king’s<MH4428> daughter<MH1323>.” <a href="/2_kings/9-35.htm">35</a>So they went<MH1980> to bury<MH6912> her, but they found<MH4672> nothing<MH3808> of her except<MH3588, 518> the skull<MH1538>, the feet<MH7272>, and the palms<MH3709> of her hands<MH3027>. <a href="/2_kings/9-36.htm">36</a>Therefore they returned<MH7725> and informed<MH5046> him. And he said<MH559>, “This<MH1931> is the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>, which<MH834> He spoke<MH1696> by His servant<MH5650> Elijah<MH452> the Tishbite<MH8664b>, saying<MH559>, ‘On the <a href="#fn">[al]</a>property<MH2506> of Jezreel<MH3157> the dogs<MH3611> shall eat<MH398> the flesh<MH1320> of Jezebel<MH348>; <a href="/2_kings/9-37.htm">37</a>and the corpse<MH5038> of Jezebel<MH348> will be like dung<MH1828> on the face<MH6440> of the field<MH7704> in the <a href="#fn">[am]</a>property<MH2506> of Jezreel<MH3157>, so<MH834> they cannot<MH3808> say<MH559>, “This<MH2088> is Jezebel<MH348>.”’”<A name="fn"></a> [a] 1 Lit Belt up your waist [b] 5 Lit To whom of us all?
