For citizens, all this has serious implications for their livelihoods as they have to face an increasingly repressive moralism that threatens to curtail their hard-won rights and freedoms. Yet the belief in progress seems to know no bounds. There are questions that focus on an essentializing of technology that disrupts social relations. But, at the same time, our very essence has become encompassed within technology. We are subsumed by digitality. Does this mean that our understanding of social relations can only be interpreted through technology? It seems that there is a way to rethink technology so that we can curb the negative aspects of technology and instead create an optimistic development of technology.
