Proper site investigation in karst prone regions is extremely valuable in determining the location of possible voids. Two geophysical techniques were employed: multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) and electric resistivity tomography (ERT).The MASW data was acquired at each test location using different array lengths and different array orientations (to increase the probability of getting interpretable data in karst terrain). The ERT data were acquired using a dipole-dipole array consisting of 168 electrodes. The MASW data was interpreted (re: estimated depth to physical top of rock) and used to constrain and verify the interpretation of the ERT data. The ERT data indicates poorer quality MASW data were acquired in areas where there was significant local variation in the depth to top of rock. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dipole-dipole" title="dipole-dipole">dipole-dipole</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ERT" title=" ERT"> ERT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karst%20terrains" title=" Karst terrains"> Karst terrains</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MASW" title=" MASW "> MASW </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58233/rodriguez-diego-del-valle-martin-hargreaves-matias-riveros-jose-luis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58233.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">315</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">179</span> Public Libraries as Social Spaces for Vulnerable Populations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Natalie%20Malone">Natalie Malone</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study explores the role of a public library in the creation of social spaces for vulnerable populations. The data stems from a longitudinal ethnographic study of the Anderson Library community, which included field notes, artifacts, and interview data. Thematic analysis revealed multiple meanings and thematic relationships within and among the data sources -interviews, field notes, and artifacts. Initial analysis suggests the Anderson Library serves as a space for vulnerable populations, with the sub-themes of fostering interpersonal communication to create a social space for children and fostering interpersonal communication to create a social space for parents and adults. These findings are important as they illustrate the potential of public libraries to serve as community empowering institutions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=capital" title="capital">capital</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immigrant%20families" title=" immigrant families"> immigrant families</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20libraries" title=" public libraries"> public libraries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=space" title=" space"> space</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vulnerable" title=" vulnerable"> vulnerable</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129690/public-libraries-as-social-spaces-for-vulnerable-populations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129690.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">151</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">178</span> Steady State Charge Transport in Quantum Dots: Nonequilibrium Green&#039;s Function (NEGF) vs. Single Electron Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahesh%20Koti">Mahesh Koti</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we present a quantum transport study of a quantum dot in steady state in the presence of static gate potential. We consider a quantum dot coupled to the two metallic leads. The quantum dot under study is modeled through Anderson Impurity Model (AIM) with hopping parameter modulated through voltage drop between leads and the central dot region. Based on the Landauer's formula derived from Nonequilibrium Green's Function and Single Electron Theory, the essential ingredients of transport properties are revealed. We show that the results out of two approaches closely agree with each other. We demonstrate that Landauer current response derived from single electron approach converges with non-zero interaction through gate potential whereas Landauer current response derived from Nonequilibrium Green's Function (NEGF) hits a pole. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anderson%20impurity%20model%20%28AIM%29" title="Anderson impurity model (AIM)">Anderson impurity model (AIM)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonequilibrium%20Green%27s%20function%20%28NEGF%29" title=" nonequilibrium Green&#039;s function (NEGF)"> nonequilibrium Green&#039;s function (NEGF)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Landauer%27s%20formula" title=" Landauer&#039;s formula"> Landauer&#039;s formula</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=single%20electron%20analysis" title=" single electron analysis"> single electron analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24159/steady-state-charge-transport-in-quantum-dots-nonequilibrium-greens-function-negf-vs-single-electron-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/24159.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">471</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">177</span> Magneto-Transport of Single Molecular Transistor Using Anderson-Holstein-Caldeira-Leggett Model </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manasa%20Kalla">Manasa Kalla</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Narasimha%20Raju%20Chebrolu"> Narasimha Raju Chebrolu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ashok%20Chatterjee"> Ashok Chatterjee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We have studied the quantum transport properties of a single molecular transistor in the presence of an external magnetic field using the Keldysh Green function technique. We also used the Anderson-Holstein-Caldeira-Leggett Model to describe the single molecular transistor that consists of a molecular quantum dot (QD) coupled to two metallic leads and placed on a substrate that acts as a heat bath. The phonons are eliminated by the Lang-Firsov transformation and the effective Hamiltonian is used to study the effect of an external magnetic field on the spectral density function, Tunneling Current, Differential Conductance and Spin polarization. A peak in the spectral function corresponds to a possible excitation. In the presence of a magnetic field, the spin-up and spin-down states are degenerate and this degeneracy is lifted by the magnetic field leading to the splitting of the central peak of the spectral function. The tunneling current decreases with increasing magnetic field. We have observed that even the differential conductance peak in the zero magnetic field curve is split in the presence electron-phonon interaction. As the magnetic field is increased, each peak splits into two peaks. And each peak indicates the existence of an energy level. Thus the number of energy levels for transport in the bias window increases with the magnetic field. In the presence of the electron-phonon interaction, Differential Conductance in general gets reduced and decreases faster with the magnetic field. As magnetic field strength increases, the spin polarization of the current is increasing. Our results show that a strongly interacting QD coupled to metallic leads in the presence of external magnetic field parallel to the plane of QD acts as a spin filter at zero temperature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anderson-Holstein%20model" title="Anderson-Holstein model">Anderson-Holstein model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caldeira-Leggett%20model" title=" Caldeira-Leggett model"> Caldeira-Leggett model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spin-polarization" title=" spin-polarization"> spin-polarization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum%20dots" title=" quantum dots"> quantum dots</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93952/magneto-transport-of-single-molecular-transistor-using-anderson-holstein-caldeira-leggett-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93952.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">185</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">176</span> Teaching Continuities in the Great Books Tradition and Contemporary Popular Culture</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alex%20Kizuk">Alex Kizuk</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper studies the trope or meme of the Siren in terms of what long-standing cultural continuities can be found in college classrooms today. Those who have raised children may remember reading from Hans Christian Anderson's 'The Little Mermaid' (1836), not to mention regaling them with colorful Disneyesque versions when they were younger. Though Anderson tempered the darker first ending of the story to give the little mermaid more agency in her salvation—a prognostic developed in Disney adaptations—nonetheless, the tale pivots on an image of a 'heavenly realm' that the mermaid may eventually come to know or comprehend as a beloved woman on dry land. Only after 300 years, however, may she hope to see that 'which lives forever' and 'rises through thin air, up to the shining stars. Just as [sea-people] rise through the water to see the lands on earth.' What students today can see in this example is a trope of the agonistic soul in a hard-won disembarkation at a harbour of knowledge--where the seeker after truth may come to know through persistence (300 years)—all that is good and true concerning human life. This paper discusses several such examples from the Great Books and popular culture to suggest that teaching in the world of the 21st century could do worse than accede to some such perennial seeking. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=the%20Great%20Books" title="the Great Books">the Great Books</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tradition" title=" tradition"> tradition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=popular%20culture" title=" popular culture"> popular culture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=21st%20century%20directions%20in%20teaching" title=" 21st century directions in teaching"> 21st century directions in teaching</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117373/teaching-continuities-in-the-great-books-tradition-and-contemporary-popular-culture" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117373.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">175</span> Secularization of Europe and the Rise of Nationalism</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sterling%20C.%20DeVerter">Sterling C. However, very few studies have attempted to empirically examine the relationship between religion and nationalism at the level of the individual, and none are known to have done so quantitatively. Building on Tajfel's and Turner's (1978) Social Identity Theory (SIT), and Anderson (1991) and Marx (2003), this study will employ SIT and regression analysis to compare the sources and patterns of nationalistic sentiment among European respondents in eight countries to the average levels of self-reported religiosity, religious participation, age, education, and income levels. Survey reports from the International Social Survey Programme were the primary quantitative data sources. It was hypothesized that the increase in nationalism across Europe follows this same evolution as first identified by Anderson, and is positively correlated to the reduction in reported religiosity. However, this study failed to reject the null, there was no substantial ( < .035) correlation between nationalistic sentiment and any of the measures of religiosity, nor were there any substantial correlations between nationalistic sentiment and either of the three control variables ( < .008). Across all countries examined, it was discovered that inclusionary nationalism has slightly declined (-5.08%), while exclusionary nationalism had increased substantially (+17.25%). The combined trend reflected an overall rise in nationalism across the time period and a forecast that suggests the current levels are also elevated. The primary implications include the demand to readdress the notion of religion and nationalism, and the correlation between the two, as well as the current nationalism trends in terms of support or non-support for future political and social movements. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=European%20Union" title="European Union">European Union</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=secularization" title=" secularization"> secularization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nationalism" title=" nationalism"> nationalism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20identity%20theory" title=" social identity theory"> social identity theory</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124560/secularization-of-europe-and-the-rise-of-nationalism" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/124560.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">127</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">174</span> Electronic Spectral Function of Double Quantum Dots–Superconductors Nanoscopic Junction</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rajendra%20Kumar">Rajendra Kumar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We study the Electronic spectral density of a double coupled quantum dots sandwich between superconducting leads, where one of the superconducting leads (QD1) are connected with left superconductor lead and (QD1) also connected right superconductor lead. (QD1) and (QD2) are coupling to each other. The electronic spectral density through a quantum dots between superconducting leads having s-wave symmetry of the superconducting order parameter. Such junction is called superconducting –quantum dot (S-QD-S) junction. For this purpose, we have considered a renormalized Anderson model that includes the double coupled of the superconducting leads with the quantum dots level and an attractive BCS-type effective interaction in superconducting leads. We employed the Green’s function technique to obtain superconducting order parameter with the BCS framework and Ambegaoker-Baratoff formalism to analyze the electronic spectral density through such (S-QD-S) junction. It has been pointed out that electronic spectral density through such a junction is dominated by the attractive the paring interaction in the leads, energy of the level on the dot with respect to Fermi energy and also on the coupling parameter of the two in an essential way. On the basis of numerical analysis we have compared the theoretical results of electronic spectral density with the recent transport existing theoretical analysis. QDs is the charging energy that may give rise to effects based on the interplay of Coulomb repulsion and superconducting correlations. It is, therefore, an interesting question to ask how the discrete level spectrum and the charging energy affect the DC and AC Josephson transport between two superconductors coupled via a QD. In the absence of a bias voltage, a finite DC current can be sustained in such an S-QD-S by the DC Josephson effect. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum%20dots" title="quantum dots">quantum dots</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S-QD-S%20junction" title=" S-QD-S junction"> S-QD-S junction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=BCS%20superconductors" title=" BCS superconductors"> BCS superconductors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anderson%20model" title=" Anderson model"> Anderson model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3977/electronic-spectral-function-of-double-quantum-dots-superconductors-nanoscopic-junction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3977.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">374</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">173</span> Generator Subgraphs of the Wheel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neil%20M.%20Mame">Neil M. The results of the study have revealed that there is a statistically significant relationship (at the 0.05 level) between both usefulness and ease of using m-learning factors and the intention of teachers to use m-learning currently and in the future. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20learning" title="mobile learning">mobile learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diffusion%20of%20innovation%20theory" title=" diffusion of innovation theory"> diffusion of innovation theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20acceptance" title=" technology acceptance"> technology acceptance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=faculty%20adoption" title=" faculty adoption"> faculty adoption</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33023/the-impact-of-usefulness-and-ease-of-using-mobile-learning-technology-on-faculty-acceptance" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33023.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">545</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">171</span> RF Propagation Analysis in Outdoor Environments Using RSSI Measurements Applied in ZigBee Sensor Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Teles%20de%20Sales%20Bezerra">Teles de Sales Bezerra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saulo%20Aislan%20da%20Silva%20Eleuterio"> Saulo Aislan da Silva Eleuterio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Anderson%20Rodrigues%20de%20Souza"> José Anderson Rodrigues de Souza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jeronimo%20Silva%20Rocha"> Jeronimo Silva Rocha</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Propagation in radio frequency is a constant concern in the application of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), the behavior of an environment determines how good the quality of signal reception. Not any different, in Geotechnics the study of probabilistic and statistical methods has gained power considering its use in characterizing the uncertainties inherent in soil properties. One of the situations where engineers are constantly faced is the definition of a probability distribution that represents significantly the sampled data. To be able to discard bad distributions, goodness-of-fit tests are necessary. In this paper, three non-parametric goodness-of-fit tests are applied to a data set computationally generated to test the goodness-of-fit of them to a series of known distributions. It is shown that the use of normal distribution does not always provide satisfactory results regarding physical and behavioral representation of the modeled parameters. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kolmogorov-Smirnov%20test" title="Kolmogorov-Smirnov test">Kolmogorov-Smirnov test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anderson-Darling%20test" title=" Anderson-Darling test"> Anderson-Darling test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cramer-Von-Mises%20test" title=" Cramer-Von-Mises test"> Cramer-Von-Mises test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonparametric%20adherence%20tests" title=" nonparametric adherence tests"> nonparametric adherence tests</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35858/a-brief-study-about-nonparametric-adherence-tests" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35858.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">444</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">166</span> Impacts of Commercial Honeybees on Native Butterflies in High-Elevation Meadows in Utah, USA</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jacqueline%20Kunzelman">Jacqueline Kunzelman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Val%20Anderson"> Val Anderson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Robert%20Johnson"> Robert Johnson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicholas%20Anderson"> Nicholas Anderson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rebecca%20Bates"> Rebecca Bates</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In an effort to protect honeybees from colony collapse disorder, beekeepers are filing for government permits to use natural lands as summer pasture for honeybees under the multiple-use management regime in the United States. Utilizing natural landscapes in high mountain ranges may help strengthen honeybee colonies, as this natural setting is generally void of chemical pollutants and pesticides that are found in agricultural and urban settings. However, the introduction of a competitive species could greatly impact the native species occupying these natural landscapes. While honeybees and butterflies have different life histories, behavior, and foraging strategies, they compete for the same nectar resources. Few, if any, studies have focused on the potential population effects of commercial honeybees on native butterfly abundance and diversity. This study attempts to observe this impact using a paired before-after control-impact (BACI) design. Over the course of two years, malaise trap samples were collected every week during the months of the flowering season in two similar areas separated by 11 kilometers. Each area contained nine malaise trap sites for replication. In the first year, samples were taken to analyze and establish trends within the pollinating communities. In the second year, honeybees were introduced to only one of the two areas, and a change in trends between the two areas was assessed. Contrary to the original hypothesis, the resulting observation was an overall significant increase in the mean butterfly abundance in the impact areas after honeybees were introduced, while control areas remained relatively stable. This overall increase in abundance over the season can be attributed to an increase in butterflies during the first and second periods of the data collection when populations were near their peak. Several potential theories are 1) Honeybees are deterring a natural predator/competitor of butterflies that previously limited population growth. 2) Honeybees are consuming resources regularly used by butterflies, which may extend the foraging time and consequent capture rates of butterflies. 3) Environmental factors such as number of rainy days were inconsistent between control and impact areas, biasing capture rates. This ongoing research will help determine the suitability of high mountain ranges for the summer pasturing of honeybees and the population impacts on many different pollinators. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=butterfly" title="butterfly">butterfly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=competition" title=" competition"> competition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=honeybee" title=" honeybee"> honeybee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pollinator" title=" pollinator"> pollinator</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112444/impacts-of-commercial-honeybees-on-native-butterflies-in-high-elevation-meadows-in-utah-usa" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112444.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">146</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">165</span> Signs-Only Compressed Row Storage Format for Exact Diagonalization Study of Quantum Fermionic Models</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Danilov">Michael Danilov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sergei%20Iskakov"> Sergei Iskakov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vladimir%20Mazurenko"> Vladimir Mazurenko</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present paper describes a high-performance parallel realization of an exact diagonalization solver for quantum-electron models in a shared memory computing system. IBE consolidates the PKI by eliminating the repetitive process of requesting public keys for each message encryption. Two of the most popular schemes are Sakai-Kasahara (SAKKE), which is based on elliptic curve pairings, and the Ducas, Lyubashevsky, and Prest lattice scheme (DLP- Lattice), which is based on quantum-secure lattice cryptography. In or- der to embed the schemes in a standard enterprise setting, both schemes are implemented as shared system libraries and integrated into a REST service that functions at the enterprise level. The performance of both schemes as libraries and services is compared, and the practicalities of implementation and application are discussed. It Is involved in fertility, ripening, and sex determination as well as in response to environmental stresses such as herbivory, pathogen drought or temperature shock. Essentially the jasmonic pathway acts to shut down growth in order to induce defence pathways. These pathways include the production of secondary metabolites which have evolved to defend against herbivores and pathogens but are of increasing interest due to their roll in medicine and biotechnology. Here we describe the transcriptional response of Rhazia stricta (a poisonous shrub widely used in traditional medicine) to jasmonic acid, in order to better characterize the genes involved in secondary metabolite production and its response to stress. We observe coordinated upregulation of flavonoid biosynthesis pathway leading to flavonols, flavones and anthocyanins but no similar coordination of the monoterpene indole alkaloid pathway. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medicinal%20plants" title="medicinal plants">medicinal plants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rhazia%20stricta" title=" Rhazia stricta"> Rhazia stricta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=jasmonic%20acid" title=" jasmonic acid"> jasmonic acid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transcriptional%20analysis" title=" transcriptional analysis"> transcriptional analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/107330/analysis-of-the-transcriptional-response-of-rhazia-stricta-to-jasmonic-acid-induction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/107330.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">143</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">160</span> The Relationship among EFL Learners’ Creativity, Emotional Intelligence and Self-Efficacy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Behdoukht%20Mall%20Amiri">Behdoukht Mall Amiri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zohreh%20Gheydar"> Zohreh Gheydar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The thrust of the current study was to investigate the relationship among EFL learners' creativity (CR), emotional intelligence (EI), and self-efficacy (SE). To this end, a group of 120 male and female learners, between the ages of 19 and 35 studying BA in English Translation and MA in Teaching English at Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran were selected using convenient sampling and were given three questionnaires: Bar-On’s EQ-I questionnaire by Bar-On (1997), the General Self-Efficacy Scale questionnaire (SGSES) by Sherer et al. (1982), and a questionnaire of creativity (CR) by O'Neil, Abedi, and Spielberger (1992). Analysis of the results through Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient showed that there was not a significant relationship between students’ CR and EI, and EI and SE. In addition, CR and SE were correlated significantly but negatively. Multiple regressions revealed that CR could significantly predict SE. Regarding the findings of the study, the obtained results may help EFL teachers, teacher trainers, materials developers, and educational policy makers to possess a broader perspective and heightened degree knowledge toward the TEFL practice and to take practical steps toward the attainments of the desired objectives of the profession. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=creativity" title="creativity">creativity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotional%20intelligence" title=" emotional intelligence"> emotional intelligence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-efficacy" title=" self-efficacy"> self-efficacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=learning" title=" learning"> learning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7647/the-relationship-among-efl-learners-creativity-emotional-intelligence-and-self-efficacy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7647.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">448</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">159</span> Hospitality Genealogy: Tracing the Ethics and Ontologies of Hospitality-Making on the Silk-Routes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neil%20Michael%20Walsh">Neil Michael Walsh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Angelique%20Lombarts"> Angelique Lombarts</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The authors propose that hospitality is ‘made’ (constituted and performed) in the encounters on the Silk-Routes. Inspired with an initial Derridean perspective on hospitality (the conditional/unconditional) and methodologically underpinned with a Delueuzian relational-rhizomatic approach, the authors contend that hospitality is (re)produced in the encounters of self/other, east/west (among others). Thus, in the spirit of performativity and using the temporal-spatial conduit of the Silk Routes (the sites of ethical, cultural, economic, and material interaction of such exchange), the authors concur that hospitality is produced at the moment in which it is performed. Key themes engaged as units of analysis become welcome, reception, hostility, (and so on) which the authors engage and examine –as they unfold- in the narratives and accounts and material legacies of those who travelled the Silk Routes between the 2nd and 18th Centuries. The preliminary results suggest that these earlier performative moments in hospitality-making on the silk routes continue to resonate and ‘form’ the hospitalities of today. Indeed, these acts of hospitality continue to reconstitute and are never a final state of affairs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hospitality-genealogy" title="hospitality-genealogy">hospitality-genealogy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interactions" title=" interactions"> interactions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hospitality-making" title=" hospitality-making"> hospitality-making</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silk-Routes" title=" Silk-Routes"> Silk-Routes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rhizome" title=" rhizome"> rhizome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relationality" title=" relationality"> relationality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129847/hospitality-genealogy-tracing-the-ethics-and-ontologies-of-hospitality-making-on-the-silk-routes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129847.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">134</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">158</span> Threshold Concepts in TESOL: A Thematic Analysis of Disciplinary Guiding Principles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neil%20Morgan">Neil Morgan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The notion of Threshold Concepts has offered a fertile new perspective on the transformative effects of mastery of particular concepts on student understanding of subject matter and their developing identities as inductees into disciplinary discourse communities. Only by successfully traversing key knowledge thresholds, it is claimed, can neophytes gain access to the more sophisticated understandings of subject matter possessed by mature members of a discipline. This paper uses thematic analysis of disciplinary guiding principles to identify nine candidate Threshold Concepts that appear to underpin effective TESOL practice. The relationship between these candidate TESOL Threshold Concepts, TESOL principles, and TESOL instructional techniques appears to be amenable to a schematic representation based on superordinate categories of TESOL practitioner concern and, as such, offers an alternative to the view of Threshold Concepts as a privileged subset of disciplinary core concepts. The paper concludes by exploring the potential of a Threshold Concepts framework to productively inform TESOL initial teacher education (ITE) and in-service education and training (INSET). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TESOL" title="TESOL">TESOL</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=threshold%20concepts" title=" threshold concepts"> threshold concepts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TESOL%20principles" title=" TESOL principles"> TESOL principles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TESOL%20ITE%2FINSET" title=" TESOL ITE/INSET"> TESOL ITE/INSET</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=community%20of%20practice" title=" community of practice"> community of practice</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127795/threshold-concepts-in-tesol-a-thematic-analysis-of-disciplinary-guiding-principles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/127795.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">140</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">157</span> Energy Efficient Heterogeneous System for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20Anderson%20Rodrigues%20de%20Souza">José Anderson Rodrigues de Souza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Teles%20de%20Sales%20Bezerra"> Teles de Sales Bezerra</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saulo%20Aislan%20da%20Silva%20Eleuterio"> Saulo Aislan da Silva Eleuterio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jeronimo%20Silva%20Rocha">Jeronimo Silva Rocha</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Mobile devices are increasingly occupying sectors of society and one of its most important features is mobility. In this study, the potential failure modes, effects, and possible causes of selected major equipment in the process were identified. During the virtual FMEA mock sessions, the risks in the process were evaluated and recommendations to reduce and/or mitigate the process risks were formulated. The risk was estimated using the calculated risk priority number (RPN) and was classified into four (4) levels according to their effects on acetone production. Results of this study were also used to rank the criticality of equipment in the process based on the calculated criticality rating (CR). Bow tie diagrams were also created for the critical hazard scenarios identified in the study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chemical%20process%20safety" title="chemical process safety">chemical process safety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=failure%20mode%20and%20effects%20analysis%20%28FMEA%29" title=" failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)"> failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=process%20hazard%20analysis%20%28PHA%29" title=" process hazard analysis (PHA)"> process hazard analysis (PHA)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=process%20safety%20management%20%28PSM%29" title=" process safety management (PSM)"> process safety management (PSM)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152134/application-of-failure-mode-and-effects-analysis-fmea-on-the-virtual-process-hazard-analysis-of-acetone-production-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152134.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">136</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">155</span> Impedance Matching of Axial Mode Helical Antennas</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hossein%20Mardani">Hossein Mardani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neil%20Buchanan"> Neil Buchanan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Robert%20Cahill"> Robert Cahill</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vincent%20Fusco"> Vincent Fusco</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we study the input impedance characteristics of axial mode helical antennas to find an effective way for matching it to 50 Ω. The study is done on the important matching parameters such as like wire diameter and helix to the ground plane gap. It is intended that these parameters control the matching without detrimentally affecting the radiation pattern. Using transmission line theory, a simple broadband technique is proposed, which is applicable for perfect matching of antennas with similar design parameters. We provide design curves to help to choose the proper dimensions of the matching section based on the antenna&rsquo;s unmatched input impedance. Finally, using the proposed technique, a 4-turn axial mode helix is designed at 2.5 GHz center frequency and the measurement results of the manufactured antenna will be included. This parametric study gives a good insight into the input impedance characteristics of axial mode helical antennas and the proposed impedance matching approach provides a simple, useful method for matching these types of antennas. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antenna" title="antenna">antenna</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=helix" title=" helix"> helix</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=helical" title=" helical"> helical</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=axial%20mode" title=" axial mode"> axial mode</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20power%20transfer" title=" wireless power transfer"> wireless power transfer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=impedance%20matching" title=" impedance matching"> impedance matching</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134308/impedance-matching-of-axial-mode-helical-antennas" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134308.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">312</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">154</span> Rehabilitative Walking: The Development of a Robotic Walking Training Device Using Functional Electrical Stimulation for Treating Spinal Cord Injuries and Lower-Limb Paralysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chung%20Hyun%20Goh">Chung Hyun Goh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Armin%20Yazdanshenas"> Armin Yazdanshenas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=X.%20Neil%20Dong"> X. Shotcrete thickness is a critical measure of the success of this process. 3D Laser Mapping, in conjunction with Jetcrete, has developed a 3D laser scanning system specifically for measuring the thickness of shotcrete. The system is mounted on the shotcrete spraying machine and measures the rock faces before and after spraying. The calculated difference between the two 3D surface models is measured as the thickness of the sprayed concrete. Typical work patterns for the shotcrete process required a rapid and automatic system. The scanning takes place immediately before and after the application of the shotcrete so no convergence takes place in the interval between scans. Automatic alignment of scans without targets was implemented which allows for the possibility of movement of the spraying machine between scans. Case studies are presented where accuracy tests are undertaken and automatic audit reports are calculated. The use of 3D imaging data for the calculation of shotcrete thickness is an important tool for geotechnical engineers and contract managers, and this could become the new state-of-the-art methodology for the mining industry. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20imaging" title="3D imaging">3D imaging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shotcrete" title=" shotcrete"> shotcrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20model" title=" surface model"> surface model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tunnel%20stability" title=" tunnel stability"> tunnel stability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84408/shotcrete-performance-optimisation-and-audit-using-3d-laser-scanning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84408.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">290</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">151</span> Application of Artificial Neural Network and Background Subtraction for Determining Body Mass Index (BMI) in Android Devices Using Bluetooth</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neil%20Erick%20Q.%20Madariaga">Neil Erick Q.
