the feasibility of generating thermoelectric power from municipal solid waste (MSW) of Kasur City by incineration process. The data was gathered from different establishments of Kasur, through appropriate permission from their heads, and processed to design different alternative projects for installation of a thermal power plant in the city of Kasur. A technique of discounted cash flow was used to evaluate alternative projects so that their Benefit to Cost Ratio, Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return and Payback Period can be determined. The study revealed that Kasur City currently consumes 18MWh electricity and generates 179 tons/day MSW. The generated waste has the ability to produce 2.1MWh electricity at the cost of USD 0.0581/unit with an expenditure of USD 3,907,692 as initial fixed investment of forming about 1/7th of consumption of Kasur. The cost from this source, when compared to current rate of electricity in Pakistan (USD 0.1346), is roughly half. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kasur%20City" title="Kasur City">Kasur City</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=resource%20recovery" title=" resource recovery"> resource recovery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermoelectric%20power" title=" thermoelectric power"> thermoelectric power</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waste%20management" title=" waste management"> waste management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100493/utilization-of-municipal-solid-waste-in-thermal-power-production-a-techno-economic-study-of-kasur-city-punjab-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100493.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">170</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1408</span> Extraction of Inulin from Cichorium Intybus and Its Application as Fat Replacer in Yoghurt</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafiz%20Khuram%20Wasim%20Aslam">Hafiz Khuram Wasim Aslam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Saeed"> Muhammad Saeed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Azam%20Shakeel"> Azam Shakeel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Inam%20Ur%20Raheem"> Muhammad Inam Ur Raheem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Moazzam%20Rafiq%20Khan"> Moazzam Rafiq Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Atif%20Randhawa"> Muhammad Atif Randhawa</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Inulin is significant ingredient used in food industry that functions technologically as a fat replacer often without compromising taste and texture. In this study inulin was extracted from the chicory roots and the effect of inulin addition as a fat replacer on the physiochemical, microbiological and sensory properties of non-fat yogurt was investigated. The supplementation of chicory inulin reduced the magnitude of firmness in comparison with non-inulin ¬supplemented non-fat yoghurt. Higher values of acidity were observed due to the more microbial fermentation in the inulin containing yogurt as compared to non-inulin yogurt and were in the range of 0.56 to 0.75 during storage days. Syneresis in control sample increased from 43.9% to 47.9% during the storage study. However inulin addition at different treatment enhanced syneresis from 44.5% to 47.6%. Inulin addition at various concentrations caused an increase in the TPC due to its probiotic effect. No effects of inuline addition on fat and protein contents were observed. Non-fat yoghurt supplemented with inulin demonstrated sensory behavior better than that of the control yoghurt. The most important effect of the addition of inulin to non-fat yoghurt is an increase in the sensory attributes appearance, body and texture, taste and mouth feel, overall acceptability. On an average, yoghurt supplemented with 1 to 2% inulin was better in overall acceptance as compared to control yoghurt. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inulin" title="inulin">inulin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fat%20replacer" title=" fat replacer"> fat replacer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=yoghurt" title=" yoghurt"> yoghurt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensory%20evaluation" title=" sensory evaluation"> sensory evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=low%20fat" title=" low fat"> low fat</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23498/extraction-of-inulin-from-cichorium-intybus-and-its-application-as-fat-replacer-in-yoghurt" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23498.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">591</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1407</span> Antiprotozoal Activity of Peganum harmala against Babesiosis in Cattle</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Mustafa%20Jafar">Muhammad Mustafa Jafar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syed%20Ashar%20Mahfooz"> Syed Ashar Mahfooz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ejaz%20Saleem"> Muhammad Ejaz Saleem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Asif%20Raza"> Muhammad Asif Raza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asghar%20Abbas"> Asghar Abbas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rao%20Zahid%20Abbas"> Rao Zahid Abbas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Kasib%20Khan"> Muhammad Kasib Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafiz%20Muhammad%20Ishaq"> Hafiz Muhammad Ishaq</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Babesia gradually attained resistance against the synthetic medicines. To overcome the drug resistance, herbal therapy has gained more attention as compared to allopathic therapy. Peganumharmala (harmal) is a plant which has shown effective results against various protozoal diseases. Therefore, the present study was planned to monitor the efficacy of Peganumharmala (aqueous extract) against Babesiosis in cattle. For this purpose, a total of forty (n=40) infected animals were randomly divided into four equal groups (A, B, C, and D). Group A was treated with aqueous extract of Peganum harmala at 7.5 mg/kg, group B at 10 mg/kg and group C at 12.5 mg/kg of body weight. Group D served as a control group (normal). It was observed that there was a stabilization in hematological parameters (white and red blood cells, hemoglobin and Packed cell volume) in infected animals treated with Peganum harmala at different doses. Results of this study hence indicated that Peganum harmala extract at 12.5mg/kg BW is more effective against Babesiosis than lower doses. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Babesiosis" title="Babesiosis">Babesiosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cattle" title=" cattle"> cattle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=control" title=" control"> control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peganum%20harmala" title=" Peganum harmala"> Peganum harmala</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98101/antiprotozoal-activity-of-peganum-harmala-against-babesiosis-in-cattle" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98101.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">284</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1406</span> Pakis and Whites: A Critical View of Nadeem Aslam’s Treatment of Racism in “Maps for Lost Lovers”</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Humaira%20Tariq">Humaira Tariq</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An issue faced by a majority of immigrants, especially coming from the third world countries, is that of racism. The natives find it very hard to accept people of another race, origin and background amongst them. History is replete with incidents where immigrants have paid a heavy price for being the odd ones out. Being an integral part of the immigrant experience, this issue of racism, is an important theme in most of diaspora related fiction. The present paper will endeavor to expose and explore Nadeem Aslam’s handling of this theme in his novel, 'Maps for Lost Lovers'. The researcher has found Aslam to take an objective stance on this issue, as he shows that where the West is unwilling to accept the immigrants in their midst, there, majority of the immigrants, are also responsible for alienating themselves in the new environment. He shows a kind of persecution mania haunting the immigrants from the third world countries where they feel the condition for being much worse than it actually is. The paper presents a critical view of the handling of racism in Aslam’s novel where he is found to criticize not only the English for their mistreatment of Pakistani immigrants, but is also disapproving of the judgmental attitude of the immigrants. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=english" title="english">english</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immigrants" title=" immigrants"> immigrants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natives" title=" natives"> natives</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pakistani" title=" pakistani"> pakistani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=racism" title=" racism"> racism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31360/pakis-and-whites-a-critical-view-of-nadeem-aslams-treatment-of-racism-in-maps-for-lost-lovers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31360.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">409</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1405</span> Assesment of Trapping Efficiency of Slow Released Formulations of Methyl Euginol with Carnauba Wax against Bactrocera zonata</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Waleed%20Afzal%20Naveed">Waleed Afzal Naveed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammd%20Dildar%20Gogi"> Muhammd Dildar Gogi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Sufian"> Muhammad Sufian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Junaid%20Nisar"> Muhammad Junaid Nisar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mubashir%20Iqbal"> Mubashir Iqbal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafiz%20Muhammad%20Waqas%20Amjad"> Hafiz Muhammad Waqas Amjad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Hamza%20Khaliq"> Muhammad Hamza Khaliq</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Present study was carried out to evaluate the performance of Slow-Released Formulations (SRF) of methyl eugenol with Carnauba wax in orchard of University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan against fruit flies. Wheat is one of the major staple food of the world, which is highly affected by water deficit stress in the current scenario of climate change. In order to ensure food security by depleting water resources, there is an urgent need to adopt technologies which result in sufficient crop yield with less water consumption. Mulching and partial rootzone drying (PRD) are two important management techniques used for water conservation and to mitigate the negative impacts of drought. The experiment was conducted to screen out the best-suited mulch for wheat under PRD system. Two water application techniques (I1= full irrigation I2= PRD irrigation) and four mulch treatments (M0= un-mulched, M1= black plastic mulch, M2= wheat straw mulch and M4= cotton sticks mulch) were conducted in completely randomized design with four replications. The treatment, black plastic mulch was performed the best than other mulch treatments. For irrigation levels, higher values of growth, physiological and water-related parameters were recorded in control treatment while, quality traits and enzymatic activities were higher under partial root zone drying. The current study concluded that adverse effects of drought on wheat can be significantly mitigated by using mulches but black plastic mulch was best suited for partial rootzone drying irrigation system in wheat. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antioxidants" title="antioxidants">antioxidants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=leaf%20water%20relations" title=" leaf water relations"> leaf water relations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mulches" title=" Mulches"> Mulches</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=osmolytes" title=" osmolytes"> osmolytes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=partial%20root%20zone%20drying" title=" partial root zone drying"> partial root zone drying</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photosynthesis" title=" photosynthesis"> photosynthesis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97612/physiological-and-biochemical-based-analysis-to-assess-the-efficacy-of-mulch-under-partial-root-zone-drying-in-wheat" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97612.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">264</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1402</span> Effect of Cryogenic Pre-stretching on the Room Temperature Tensile Behavior of AZ61 Magnesium Alloy and Dominant Grain Growth Mechanisms During Subsequent Annealing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Umer%20Masood%20Chaudry">Umer Masood Chaudry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafiz%20Muhammad%20Rehan%20Tariq"> Hafiz Muhammad Rehan Tariq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chung-soo%20Kim"> Chung-soo Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tea-sung%20Jun"> Tea-sung Jun</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study explored the influence of pre-stretching temperature on the microstructural characteristics and deformation behavior of AZ61 magnesium alloy and its implications on grain growth during subsequent annealing. AZ61 alloy was stretched to 5% plastic strain along rolling (RD) and transverse direction (TD) at room (RT) and cryogenic temperature (-150 oC, CT) followed by annealing at 320 oC for 1 h to investigate the twinning and dislocation evolution and its consequent effect on the flow stress, plastic strain and strain hardening rate. Compared to RT-stretched samples, significant improvement in yield stress, strain hardening rate and moderate reduction in elongation to failure were witnessed for CT-stretched samples along RD and TD. The subsequent EBSD analysis revealed the increased fraction of fine {10-12} twins and nucleation of multiple {10-12} twin variants caused by higher local stress concentration at the grain boundaries in CT-stretched samples as manifested by the kernel average misorientation. This higher twin fraction and twin-twin interaction imposed the strengthening by restricting the mean free path of dislocations, leading to higher flow stress and strain hardening rate. During annealing of the RT/CT-stretched samples, the residual strain energy and twin boundaries were decreased due to static recovery, leading to a coarse-grained twin-free microstructure. Strain induced boundary migration (SBIM) was found to be the predominant mechanism governing the grain growth during annealing via movement of high angle grain boundaries. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnesium" title="magnesium">magnesium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=twinning" title=" twinning"> twinning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=twinning%20variant%20selection" title=" twinning variant selection"> twinning variant selection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EBSD" title=" EBSD"> EBSD</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cryogenic%20deformation" title=" cryogenic deformation"> cryogenic deformation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172106/effect-of-cryogenic-pre-stretching-on-the-room-temperature-tensile-behavior-of-az61-magnesium-alloy-and-dominant-grain-growth-mechanisms-during-subsequent-annealing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172106.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">67</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1401</span> Investigating the Significance of Ground Covers and Partial Root Zone Drying Irrigation for Water Conservation Weed Suppression and Quality Traits of Wheat</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Aown%20Sammar%20Raza">Muhammad Aown Sammar Raza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salman%20Ahmad"> Salman Ahmad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Farrukh%20Saleem"> Muhammad Farrukh Saleem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Saqlain%20Zaheer"> Muhammad Saqlain Zaheer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rashid%20Iqbal"> Rashid Iqbal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Imran%20Haider"> Imran Haider</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Usman%20Aslam"> Muhammad Usman Aslam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Adnan%20Nazar"> Muhammad Adnan Nazar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> One of the main negative effects of climate change is the increasing scarcity of water worldwide, especially for irrigation purpose. In order to ensure food security with less available water, there is a need to adopt easy and economic techniques. Two of the effective techniques are; use of ground covers and partial root zone drying (PRD). A field experiment was arranged to find out the most suitable mulch for PRD irrigation system in wheat. The experiment was comprised of two irrigation methods (I0 = irrigation on both sides of roots and I1= irrigation to only one side of the root as alternate irrigation) and four ground covers (M0= open ground without any cover, M1= black plastic cover, M2= wheat straw cover and M4= cotton sticks cover). More plant height, spike length, number of spikelets and number of grains were found in full irrigation treatment. While water use efficiency and grain nutrient (NPK) contents were more in PRD irrigation. All soil covers suppress the weeds and significantly influenced the yield attributes, final yield as well as the grain nutrient contents. However black plastic cover performed the best. It was concluded that joint use of both techniques was more effective for water conservation and increasing grain yield than their sole application and combination of PRD with black plastic mulch performed the best than other ground covers combination used in the experiment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ground%20covers" title="ground covers">ground covers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=partial%20root%20zone%20drying" title=" partial root zone drying"> partial root zone drying</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grain%20yield" title=" grain yield"> grain yield</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20traits" title=" quality traits"> quality traits</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=WUE" title=" WUE"> WUE</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weed%20control%20efficiency" title=" weed control efficiency"> weed control efficiency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97609/investigating-the-significance-of-ground-covers-and-partial-root-zone-drying-irrigation-for-water-conservation-weed-suppression-and-quality-traits-of-wheat" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/97609.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">248</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1400</span> A Next Generation Multi-Scale Modeling Theatre for in silico Oncology</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Safee%20Chaudhary">Safee Chaudhary</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahnoor%20Naseer%20Gondal"> Mahnoor Naseer Gondal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hira%20Anees%20Awan"> Hira Anees Awan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Rehman"> Abdul Rehman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ammar%20Arif"> Ammar Arif</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Risham%20Hussain"> Risham Hussain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Huma%20Khawar"> Huma Khawar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zainab%20Arshad"> Zainab Arshad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Faizyab%20Ali%20Chaudhary"> Muhammad Faizyab Ali Chaudhary</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Waleed%20Ahmed"> Waleed Ahmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Umer%20Sultan"> Muhammad Umer Sultan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bibi%20Amina"> Bibi Amina</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salaar%20Khan"> Salaar Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Moaz%20Ahmad"> Muhammad Moaz Ahmad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Osama%20Shiraz%20Shah"> Osama Shiraz Shah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hadia%20Hameed"> Hadia Hameed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Farooq%20Ahmad%20Butt"> Muhammad Farooq Ahmad Butt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ahmad"> Muhammad Ahmad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sameer%20Ahmed"> Sameer Ahmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fayyaz%20Ahmed"> Fayyaz Ahmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Omer%20Ishaq"> Omer Ishaq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Waqar%20Nabi"> Waqar Nabi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wim%20Vanderbauwhede"> Wim Vanderbauwhede</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bilal%20Wajid"> Bilal Wajid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Huma%20Shehwana"> Huma Shehwana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Tariq"> Muhammad Tariq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amir%20Faisal"> Amir Faisal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Cancer is a manifestation of multifactorial deregulations in biomolecular pathways. These deregulations arise from the complex multi-scale interplay between cellular and extracellular factors. Such multifactorial aberrations at gene, protein, and extracellular scales need to be investigated systematically towards decoding the underlying mechanisms and orchestrating therapeutic interventions for patient treatment. In this work, we propose ‘TISON’, a next-generation web-based multiscale modeling platform for clinical systems oncology. TISON’s unique modeling abstraction allows a seamless coupling of information from biomolecular networks, cell decision circuits, extra-cellular environments, and tissue geometries. The platform can undertake multiscale sensitivity analysis towards in silico biomarker identification and drug evaluation on cellular phenotypes in user-defined tissue geometries. Furthermore, integration of cancer expression databases such as The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Human Proteome Atlas (HPA) facilitates in the development of personalized therapeutics. TISON is the next-evolution of multiscale cancer modeling and simulation platforms and provides a ‘zero-code’ model development, simulation, and analysis environment for application in clinical settings. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=systems%20oncology" title="systems oncology">systems oncology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cancer%20systems%20biology" title=" cancer systems biology"> cancer systems biology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cancer%20therapeutics" title=" cancer therapeutics"> cancer therapeutics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=personalized%20therapeutics" title=" personalized therapeutics"> personalized therapeutics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cancer%20modelling" title=" cancer modelling"> cancer modelling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112569/a-next-generation-multi-scale-modeling-theatre-for-in-silico-oncology" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/112569.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">222</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1399</span> Effect of Varying Diets on Growth, Development and Survival of Queen Bee (Apis mellifera L.) in Captivity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Anjum%20Aqueel">Muhammad Anjum Aqueel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zaighum%20Abbas"> Zaighum Abbas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mubasshir%20Sohail"> Mubasshir Sohail</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Abubakar"> Muhammad Abubakar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafiz%20Khurram%20Shurjeel"> Hafiz Khurram Shurjeel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abu%20Bakar%20Muhammad%20Raza"> Abu Bakar Muhammad Raza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Afzal"> Muhammad Afzal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sami%20Ullah"> Sami Ullah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Keeping in view the increasing demand, queen of <em>Apis mellifera</em> L. Larval duration, pupal duration, weight, and size of pupae were evaluated at different diets including royal jelly. Queen larvae were raised by Doo Little grafting method. Four different diets were mixed with royal jelly and applied to larvae. Fructose, sugar, yeast, and honey were provided to rearing queen larvae along with same amount of royal jelly. Larval and pupal duration were longest (6.15 and 7.5 days, respectively) at yeast and shortest on honey (5.05 and 7.02 days, respectively). Heavier and bigger pupae were recorded on yeast (168.14 mg and 1.76 cm, respectively) followed by diets having sugar and honey. Due to production of heavier and bigger pupae, yeast was considered as best artificial diet for the growing queen larvae. So, in the second part of experiment, different amounts of yeast were provided to growing larvae along with fixed amount (0.5 g) of royal jelly. Survival rates of the larvae and queen bee were 70% and 40% in the 4-g food, 86.7% and 53.3% in the 6-g food, and 76.7% and 50% in the 8-g food. Weight of adult queen bee (1.459±0.191 g) and the number of ovarioles (41.7±21.3) were highest at 8 g of food. To date, various remediation approaches have been employed for the remediation and management of Cr contaminated soils. Phytoextraction is an eco-friendly and emerging remediation approach which has gained attention due to several advantages over conventional remediation approach. The use of energy crops for phytoremediation is an emerging trend worldwide. These energy crops have high tolerance against various environmental stresses, the potential to grow in diverse ecosystems and high biomass production make them a suitable candidate for phytoremediation of contaminated soils. The removal efficiency of plants in phytoextraction depends upon several soil and plant factors including solubility, bioavailability and metal speciation in soils. A pot scale experiment was conducted to evaluate the phytoextraction potential of Arundo donax L. with the application of acetic acid (A.A) in Cr contaminated soils. Plants were grown in pots filled with 5 kg soils for 90 days. After 30 days plants acclimatization in pot conditions, plants were treated with various levels of Cr (2.5 mM, 5 mM, 7.5 mM, 10 mM) and A.A (Cr 2.5 mM + A.A 2.5 mM, Cr 5 mM + A.A 2.5 mM, Cr 7.5 mM + A.A 2.5 mM, Cr 10 mM + A.A 2.5 mM). The application of A.A significantly increased metal uptake and in roots and shoots of A. donax. This increase was observed at Cr 7.5 mM + A.A 2.5 mM but at high concentrations, visual symptoms of Cr toxicity were observed on leaves. Similarly, A.A applications also affect the activities of key enzymes including catalase (CAT), superoxidase dismutase (SOD), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) in leaves of A. donax. Based on results it is concluded that the applications of A.A acid for phytoextraction is an alternative approach for the management of Cr affected soils and synthetic chelators should be replaced with organic acids. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acetic%20acid" title="acetic acid">acetic acid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20donax" title=" A. donax"> A. donax</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chromium" title=" chromium"> chromium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20crop" title=" energy crop"> energy crop</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phytoextraction" title=" phytoextraction"> phytoextraction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87656/acetic-acid-assisted-phytoextraction-of-chromium-cr-by-energy-crop-arundo-donax-l-in-cr-contaminated-soils" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/87656.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">388</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1395</span> Durability Properties of Foamed Concrete with Fiber Inclusion</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hanizam%20Awang">Hanizam Awang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Hafiz%20Ahmad"> Muhammad Hafiz Ahmad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An experimental study was conducted on foamed concrete with synthetic and natural fibres consisting of AR-glass, polypropylene, steel, kenaf and oil palm fibre. This study focuses on the development of carbon fiber reinforced copper matrix composite. Keeping in view the vast applications of metal matrix composites, this specific material is produced for its unique mechanical and thermal properties i.e. high thermal conductivity and low coefficient of thermal expansion at elevated temperatures. The carbon fibers were not pretreated but coated with copper by electroless plating in order to increase the wettability of carbon fiber with the copper matrix. Casting is chosen as the manufacturing route for the C-Cu composite. Four different compositions of the composite were developed by varying the amount of carbon fibers by 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 wt. % of the copper. The effect of varying carbon fiber content and sizes on the mechanical properties of the C-Cu composite is studied in this work. The tensile test was performed on the tensile specimens. The yield strength decreases with increasing fiber content while the ultimate tensile strength increases with increasing fiber content. Rockwell hardness test was also performed and the result followed the increasing trend for increasing carbon fibers and the hardness numbers are 30.2, 37.2, 39.9 and 42.5 for sample 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. The microstructures of the specimens were also examined under the optical microscope. Wear test and SEM also done for checking characteristic of C-Cu marix composite. Through casting may be a route for the production of the C-Cu matrix composite but still powder metallurgy is better to follow as the wettability of carbon fiber with matrix, in that case, would be better. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=copper%20based%20composites" title="copper based composites">copper based composites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20properties" title=" mechanical properties"> mechanical properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wear%20properties" title=" wear properties"> wear properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microstructure" title=" microstructure"> microstructure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51132/studying-the-effect-of-different-sizes-of-carbon-fiber-on-locally-developed-copper-based-composites" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51132.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">364</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1393</span> Antibiofilm Activities of Biogenic Silver Nanoparticles against Human Pathogenic Bacteria</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Shahzad%20Tufail">Muhammad Shahzad Tufail</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iram%20Liaqat"> Iram Liaqat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Umer%20Sohail%20Meer"> Umer Sohail Meer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Ishtaiq"> Muhammad Ishtaiq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Sattar"> Muhammad Sattar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nanotechnology is a vibrant field with numerous applications in many different branches of science and technology. Several methods are used to synthesize nanoparticles (NPs), which have multiple range of applications. Comparatively, the biogenic synthesis of NPs is a more economical and environmentally favourable method than the traditional chemical method. The current study aims to synthesize biogenically silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using bacterial isolates. Four bacterial strains Escherichia coli (MT448673), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MN900691), Bacillus subtilis (MN900684) and Bacillus licheniformis (MN900686) were used for the synthesis of AgNPs from silver nitrate (AgNO3) solution. The biofilm time kinetics of four bacterial isolates (P. aeruginosa, E. coli, B. licheniformis and B. subtilis) was analysed by incubating bacterial cultures at 37◦C in test tubes over a period of different time intervals i.e., 2, 3, 5 and 7 days following crystal violet staining method. All the four strains had ability to form strong biofilms between 48 to 72 hours of incubation. Two strains (B. subtilis and B. licheniformis) formed significant (p < 0.05) biofilm after 3 days of incubation period. The other two strains (E. coli and P. aeruginosa) showed strong biofilm formation after 2 days of incubation. Next, the antibiofilm activity of biogenically synthesized AgNPs (10 - 100 µgmL-1) was analysed against biofilm forming human pathogenic bacteria. Findings of the work revealed that 60-90% inhibition was observed at 60 µgmL-1 of AgNPs, while maximum inhibition (i.e.,100%) was found at highest concentration (90 µgmL-1). It was evident that highly significant (p < 0.05) decrease in biofilm formation was observed with increasing concentration of AgNPs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibiofilm" title="antibiofilm">antibiofilm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biofilm%20formation" title=" biofilm formation"> biofilm formation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanotechnology" title=" nanotechnology"> nanotechnology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pathogenic%20bacteria" title=" pathogenic bacteria"> pathogenic bacteria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silver%20nanoparticles" title=" silver nanoparticles"> silver nanoparticles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168131/antibiofilm-activities-of-biogenic-silver-nanoparticles-against-human-pathogenic-bacteria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168131.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">105</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1392</span> Male Oreochromis mossambica as Indicator for Water Pollution with Trace Elements in Relation to Condition Factor from Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Naeem">Muhammad Naeem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syed%20M.%20Moeen-ud-Din%20Raheel"> Syed M. This research aims to determine the serotype distribution of dengue virus during this outbreak and classify the patients demographically. 5ml of venous blood was drawn aseptically from 166 patients with dengue-like signs to test for the virus between the months of August to November 2011. The samples were sent to the CDC, Atlanta, Georgia for the purpose of molecular assays to determine their serotype. RT-PCR protocol was performed targeting at the 4 dengue serotypes. Out of 166 cases, dengue infection was detected with RT-PCR in 95 cases, all infected with same serotype DEN-2. 75% of positive cases were males while 25% were females. Most positive patients were in the age range of 16-30 years. 33% positive cases had accompanying bleeding. This is first study during the 2011 dengue epidemic in Lahore that reports DEN-2 as the only prevalent serotype. It also indicates that more infected patients were males, adults, within age range of 16-30 years, peaked in the month of November, Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is manifested more in females, Ravi town was heavily hit by dengue virus infection. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dengue" title="dengue">dengue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=serotypes" title=" serotypes"> serotypes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pakistan" title=" Pakistan"> Pakistan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DEN%202" title=" DEN 2"> DEN 2</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lahore" title=" Lahore"> Lahore</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=demography" title=" demography"> demography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=serotype%20distrbution" title=" serotype distrbution"> serotype distrbution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=2011%20epidemic" title=" 2011 epidemic "> 2011 epidemic </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1935/serotype-distribution-and-demographics-of-dengue-patients-in-a-tertiary-hospital-of-lahore-pakistan-during-the-2011-epidemic" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1935.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">500</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1390</span> EhfadHaya (SaveLife) / AateHayah (GiveLife) Blood Donor Website</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sameer%20Muhammad%20Aslam">Sameer Muhammad Aslam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nura%20Said%20Mohsin%20Al-Saifi"> Nura Said Mohsin Al-Saifi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research shows the process of creating a blood donation website for Oman. Blood donation is a widespread, crucial, ongoing process, so it is important that this website is easy to use. Several automated blood management systems are available, but none provides an effective algorithm that takes into account variables such as frequency of donation, donation date, and gender. In Oman, the Ministry of Health maintains a blood bank and keeps donors informed about the need for blood through a website. They also inform donors and the wider public where and when is their next blood donation event. The website's main goals are to educate the community about the benefits of blood donation. It also manages donor and receiver documentation and encourages voluntary blood donation by providing easy access to information about blood types and blood distribution in various hospitals in Oman, based on hospital needs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oman" title="Oman">Oman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blood%20bank" title=" blood bank"> blood bank</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blood%20donors" title=" blood donors"> blood donors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=donor%20website" title=" donor website"> donor website</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143141/ehfadhaya-savelife-aatehayah-givelife-blood-donor-website" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143141.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">217</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1389</span> Phenotypic and Genotypic Expression of Hylomma Anatolicum Ticks Silenced for Ferritin Genes through RNA Interference Technology</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Sohail%20Sajid">Muhammad Sohail Sajid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahvish%20Maqbool"> Mahvish Maqbool</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafiz%20Muhammad%20Rizwan"> Hafiz Muhammad Rizwan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Saqib"> Muhammad Saqib</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Haroon%20Ahmad"> Haroon Ahmad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ticks are blood-sucking ectoparasite that causes a decrease in production and economic losses and affects mammals, reptiles, and birds. Hyalomma anatolicum is the main vector for CCHF transmission and Pakistan has faced several outbreaks of CCHF in the recent past. Ferritin (fer)is a highly conserved molecule that is ubiquitous in most tick tissues and responsible for iron metabolism and storage. It was hypothesized that the development of acaricidal resistance and residual effects of commercially used acaricides could be controlled by using alternative control methods, including RNA interference. The current study aimed to evaluate the fer silencing effects on tick feeding, average body weight, egg mass index, and mortality. Ticks, collected through the standard collection protocols were further subjected to RNA isolation using the Trizol method. Commercially available kit procedures were followed for cDNA and dsRNA synthesis. The soaking/Immersion method was used for dsRNA delivery. Our findings have shown a 27% reduction in body weight of fer silenced group and showed a significant association of fer and body weight. Silencing of fer had a significant effect on the engorgement percentage (P= 0.0007), oviposition (P=0.008), egg mass (P= 0.004) and hatching (P= 0.001). The soaking method was used for dsRNA delivery and 15°C was found to be an optimum temperature for inducing gene silencing in ticks as at this temperature, maximum survivability after immersion was attained. This study along with previous studies, described that iron toxicity due to the silencing of fer could play an important role in the control of ticks and fer can be used as a potent candidate for vaccine development. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ticks" title="ticks">ticks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=iron" title=" iron"> iron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ferritin" title=" ferritin"> ferritin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=engorgement" title=" engorgement"> engorgement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oviposition" title=" oviposition"> oviposition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immersion" title=" immersion"> immersion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RNA%20interference" title=" RNA interference"> RNA interference</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155123/phenotypic-and-genotypic-expression-of-hylomma-anatolicum-ticks-silenced-for-ferritin-genes-through-rna-interference-technology" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/155123.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">94</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1388</span> Implementation of Risk Management System to Improve the Quality of Higher Education Institutes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Wasif">Muhammad Wasif</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asif%20Ahmed%20Shaikh"> Asif Ahmed Shaikh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sarosh%20Hashmat%20Lodi"> Sarosh Hashmat Lodi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Aslam%20Bhutto"> Muhammad Aslam Bhutto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Riazuddin"> Riazuddin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Risk Management System is quite popular in profit- based organizations, health and safety and project management fields since the last few decades. But due to rapidly changing environment and requirement of ISO 9001:2015 standards, public-sector institution, especially higher education institutes are also performing risk assessment to monitor the performance of the institution and aligning it with the latest benchmark. In this context, NED University of Engineering and Technology performed research and developed a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the risk assessment, its monitoring and control. In this research, risks are broken into the four sources, namely; Internal Academics Risks, External Academics Risks, Internal Non-academic Risks, External Non-academic Risks. Risks are identified by the management at all levels. Severity and likelihood of the risks are assigned based on the previous audit results and the customer complains. Risk Ratings are calculated to orderly arrange the risk according to the Risk Rating, and controls for the risks are designed, which are assigned to the responsible person. At the end of the article, result and analysis on the different sources of risk are discussed in details and the conclusion is drawn. Discussion on few sample risks are presented in this article. Hence it is presented in the research that the Risk Management System can be applied in a Higher Education Institute to effectively control the risks which might affect the scope and Quality Management System of an organization. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher%20education" title="higher education">higher education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quality%20management%20system" title=" quality management system"> quality management system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=risk%20assessment" title=" risk assessment"> risk assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=risk%20management" title=" risk management"> risk management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/90839/implementation-of-risk-management-system-to-improve-the-quality-of-higher-education-institutes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/90839.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">310</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1387</span> Organotin (IV) Based Complexes as Promiscuous Antibacterials: Synthesis in vitro, in Silico Pharmacokinetic, and Docking Studies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wajid%20Rehman">Wajid Rehman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sirajul%20Haq"> Sirajul Haq</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bakhtiar%20Muhammad"> Bakhtiar Muhammad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syed%20Fahad%20Hassan"> Syed Fahad Hassan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amin%20Badshah"> Amin Badshah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Waseem"> Muhammad Waseem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fazal%20Rahim"> Fazal Rahim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Obaid-Ur-Rahman%20Abid"> Obaid-Ur-Rahman Abid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farzana%20Latif%20Ansari"> Farzana Latif Ansari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Umer%20Rashid"> Umer Rashid</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Five novel triorganotin (IV) compounds have been synthesized and characterized. The tin atom is penta-coordinated to assume trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. Among various synthesized organotin (IV) complexes, compound 5 was found as potent antibacterial agent against various bacterial strains. Further lead optimization of drug-like properties was evaluated through in silico predictions. Data mining and computational analysis were utilized to derive compound promiscuity phenomenon to avoid drug attrition rate in designing antibacterials. Xanthine oxidase and human glucose- 6-phosphatase were found as only true positive off-target hits by ChEMBL database and others utilizing similarity ensemble approach. Propensity towards a-3 receptor, human macrophage migration factor and thiazolidinedione were found as false positive off targets with E-value 1/4> 10^-4 for compound 1, 3, and 4. Further, displaying positive drug-drug interaction of compound 1 as uricosuric was validated by all databases and docked protein targets with sequence similarity and compositional matrix alignment via BLAST software. Promiscuity of the compound 5 was further confirmed by in silico binding to different antibacterial targets. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibacterial%20activity" title="antibacterial activity">antibacterial activity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drug%20promiscuity" title=" drug promiscuity"> drug promiscuity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ADMET%20prediction" title=" ADMET prediction"> ADMET prediction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metallo-pharmaceutical" title=" metallo-pharmaceutical"> metallo-pharmaceutical</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antimicrobial%20resistance" title=" antimicrobial resistance"> antimicrobial resistance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17900/organotin-iv-based-complexes-as-promiscuous-antibacterials-synthesis-in-vitro-in-silico-pharmacokinetic-and-docking-studies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17900.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">503</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1386</span> Poetic Music by the Poet, Commander of the Faithful, Muhammad Bello: Prosodical Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sirajo%20Muhammad%20Sokoto">Sirajo Muhammad Sokoto</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Commander of the Faithful, Muhammad Bello, is considered one of the most distinguished scholars and poetic geniuses who is famous for reciting poetry in the classical vertical style. He is also represented by pre-Islamic poets such as Imru’ al-Qays and Alqamah and among the Islamists such as Hassan bin Thabit, Amr bin Abi Rabi’ah, and others. The poet drew from the seas of the Arabic language and its styles at the hands of His father, Sheikh Othman Bin Fodio, and his uncle, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Fodio, are both things that made Muhammad Bello conversant with the Arabic language until he was able to write poetry in a beautiful format and good style. The Commander of the Faithful, Muhammad Bello, did not deviate from what the Arabs know of poetic elements, such as taking into account its meanings and music; Muhammadu Bello has used every Bahr of prosody and its technicals in many of his poems. In 2019, Prime Minister Boris Johnson sought to prorogue parliament to prevent it from debating withdrawal from the UK. In 2022, Pakistan's Prime Minister also tried to nullify the ability of parliament to vote on the constitutional mechanism of a no-confidence vote. In both cases, the apex courts intervened and restored the supremacy of Parliament, averting constitutional crises. This paper examines the legitimacy and power of said courts to intervene in sensitive political and constitutional questions. The research focuses on the administrative law area of judicial review. It examines how in UK and Pakistan practice of judicial review helps mediate constitutional deadlocks between institutions comparatively. Responses of insects varied with exposure periods and dilution levels of acetone extracts of plants. Both plant extracts were lethal to insects but the crude leaf extract of N. tabacum evidenced strong toxic action against three tested insect species. Maximum mortality 36.30% in S. granarius, 25.96% in T. castaneum, and 21.88% in T. granarium were found at 20% dilution level, after 10 days exposure to botanical extract of N. tabacum. The impact of N. tabacum and E. globulus on the activity of esterases; acetylcholinesterase (AChE), α-carboxylesterase (α-CE), β-carboxylesterase (β-CE) and phosphatses; acid phosphatase (AcP), alkaline phosphatase (AlP) of three stored grain insect species were also studied in the survivors of toxicity assay. Whole body homogenates of insects were used for enzyme determination and consumption of high dose rate N. tabacum extract containing diet resulted in maximum 55.33% inhibition of AChE and 26.17% AlP inhibition in T. castaneum, while 44.17% of α-CE and 31.67% inhibition of β-CE activity were noted in S. granarius. Maximum inhibition 23.44% of AcP activity was found in T. granarium exposed to diet treated with the extract of E. globulus. The findings indicate that acetone extracts of N. tabacum and E. globulus are naturally occurring pesticide and facts of the enzyme inhibition relations specify that their effect changes with the insect species. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20extract" title="natural extract">natural extract</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medicinal%20plant" title=" medicinal plant"> medicinal plant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=toxic%20effects" title=" toxic effects"> toxic effects</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=enzyme%20inhibition" title=" enzyme inhibition"> enzyme inhibition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acetone%20extract" title=" acetone extract"> acetone extract</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78395/alterations-in-esterases-and-phosphatases-of-three-economically-important-stored-grain-insect-pests-exposed-to-botanical-extracts-nicotiana-tabacum-and-eucalyptus-globulus" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78395.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">258</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1383</span> Determining the Constituents of the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in the Light of the Quran: A Clinical Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aamir%20I.%20Yazdani">Aamir I. The way Allah dealt with people where the messengers (rasuls) were sent is called Sunnatullāh by the Quran. Likewise, the same term is used in the Quran, for Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as in following the trodden path (Sunnah) of his forefather Prophet Abraham, Alaihissalam. It implies; therefore, the word Sunnah cannot be applied to things which relates to theoretical knowledge like faith etc. Its ambit remains the practices, actions linked to practical things only. In the case of the Quran, we find that there is complete agreement among all Muslims on what constitutes the book of Allah, based on ijma (unanimity, total agreement, consensus) and tawatur (uninterrupted continuity, without any gap). There seems to be no unanimity on the question on what constitutes Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). There are, therefore, several approaches towards Sunnah adopted by Muslims. This paper is based on Qualitative Methodology to determine the criterion of what constitutes the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and which practices constitute the precincts of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Al-hikmah" title="Al-hikmah">Al-hikmah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hereafter" title=" Hereafter"> Hereafter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=practices" title=" practices"> practices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tazkiya" title=" Tazkiya"> Tazkiya</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154194/determining-the-constituents-of-the-sunnah-of-prophet-muhammad-pbuh-in-the-light-of-the-quran-a-clinical-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154194.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">145</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1382</span> Modification of Four Layer through the Thickness Woven Structure for Improved Impact Resistance</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Liaqat">Muhammad Liaqat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafiz%20Abdul%20Samad"> Hafiz Abdul Samad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Syed%20Talha%20Ali%20Hamdani"> Syed Talha Ali Hamdani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasir%20Nawab"> Yasir Nawab</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the current research, the four layers, orthogonal through the thickness, 2D woven, 3D fabric structure was modified to improve the impact resistance of 3D fabric reinforced composites. Agro-grazing animals and natural vegetation as their forages are the most important components of animal production. Climate and local conditions not only determine the nature and kind of plants, their distribution, composition and nutritive value in different cropping belts and grazing sites but also influence number and kinds of grazing animals. Phytomineral supplementation can act as an indirect tool to boost-up immunological profile of animals leading to the development of resilience against parasitic infections. The present study correlates the trace element (Cu, Co, Mn, Zn) profile of grazing sheep, feedstuffs, respective soils and their GI helminths in a selected district of Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan. Ten species of GI helminths were found during the survey. A significant (P < 0.05) variation in the concentrations (conc.) of Zn, Cu, Mn and Co was recorded in a total of 16 collected forages. During autumn, mean conc. of Cu, Zn and Co in sera were inversely proportional to the GI helminth burden; while, during spring, only Zn was inversely proportional to the GI helminth burden in grazing sheep. During autumn the highest conc. of Zn, Cu, Mn and Co were recorded in Echinochloa colona, Amaranthus viridis, Cannabis sativa, and Brachiaria ramose and during spring in Cichorium intybus, Cynodon dactylon, Parthenium hysterophorus and Coronopus didymus respectively. The trace element-rich forages, preferably Zn, found effective against helminth infection are advisable supplemental remedies to improve the trace element profile in grazing sheep. This mitigation strategy may ultimately improve the resilience against GI helminth infections especially in the resource poor countries like Pakistan. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coprological%20examination" title="coprological examination">coprological examination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Trace%20elements" title=" Trace elements"> Trace elements</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sheep" title=" Sheep"> Sheep</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gastro-intestinal%20parasites" title=" Gastro-intestinal parasites"> Gastro-intestinal parasites</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Prevalence" title=" Prevalence"> Prevalence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sialkot" title=" Sialkot"> Sialkot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pakistan" title=" Pakistan"> Pakistan</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40087/association-of-phytomineral-supplementation-with-the-seasonal-prevalence-of-gastrointestinal-parasites-of-grazing-sheep-in-the-scenario-of-climate-change" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40087.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">391</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1380</span> Comparative Efficacy of Prolene and Polyester Mesh for the Repair of Abdominal Wall Defect in Pigeons (Columba livia)</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Naveed%20Ali">Muhammad Naveed Ali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamad%20Bin%20Rashid"> Hamad Bin Rashid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Arif%20Khan"> Muhammad Arif Khan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Basit"> Abdul Basit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafiz%20Muhammad%20Arshad"> Hafiz Muhammad Arshad</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Abdominal defects are very common in pigeons. A new technique is known as intraabdominal mesh transplant that give better protection for herniorrhaphy. The aim of this study was to determine the performance of hernia mesh. In this study, an efficacy of two synthetic hernia mesh implants viz. conventional Prolene and a lightweight mesh monofilament polyester were assessed for the abdominal wall repair in pigeons. Twenty four healthy pigeons were selected and randomly distributed into three groups, A, B and C (n=8). In all groups, experimental laparotomy was performed; thereafter, abdominal muscles and peritoneum were sutured together, while, a 2 x 2 cm defect was created in the abdominal muscles. For onlay hernioplasty, the hernia mesh (Prolene mesh: group A; Polyester mesh: group B) was implanted over the external oblique muscles of the abdomen. In group C (control), the mesh was not implanted; instead, the laparotomy incision was closed after a herniorrhaphy. Post-operative pain wound healing, adhesion formation, histopathological findings and formation of hematoma, abscess and seroma were assessed as short-term complications. Post-operatively, pain at surgical site was significantly less (P < 0.001) in group B (Polyester mesh); wound healing was also significantly better and rapid in group B (P < 0.05) than in group A (Prolene mesh). Group B (Polyester mesh) also depicted less than 25% adhesions when assessed on the basis of a Quantitative Modified Diamond scale; a Qualitative Adhesion Tenacity scale also depicted either no adhesions or flimsy adhesions (n=2) in group B (Polyester mesh), in contrast to group A (Prolene), which manifested greater adhesion formation and presence of dense adhesions requiring blunt dissection. There were observed hematoma, seroma and abscess formations in birds treated by Prolene mesh only. Conclusively, the polyester mesh proved superior to the Prolene mesh regarding lesser adhesion, better in wound healing, and no short-term follow-up complications. <p
