In ihr wurden und werden Beiträge zu Siedlungsgeschichte, Ortsnamenkunde, Grundherrschaft sowie zu einzelnen Epochen und Einzelgestalten der bayerischen Entwicklung publiziert. Die Zeitschrift veröffentlichte grundlegende Aufsätze bekannter Landeshistoriker, die auch heute noch für jeden Studierenden der Geschichte zur Pflichtlektüre gehören.</p><p>Seit 1927 wurde eine Übersicht der wichtigsten Neuerscheinungen zur bayerischen Geschichte zusammengestellt.
