They will think about the appearance and personality of their child and may even develop many expectations. The patient in this study experienced a successful pregnancy following multiple attempts at artificial insemination. However, due to arrested embryonic development, and based on the physician’s evaluation, a caesarean section was performed at week 25. However, the baby suffered from infections and subsequently died from multiple organ failures. This study collected and analyzed objective and subjective data through observation, interviews, recording, and interactions with the patient. The following nursing issues of the patient were identified: anxiety, anticipatory grief, and adjustment disorder. The psychology of caring as proposed in Watson’s theory was applied to address these nursing issues. Comprehensive and continuous care was provided to the patient on the basis of mutual trust and individual nursing guidelines in order to alleviate the patient’s anxiety, help her to cope with grief, and prepare her for the eventual death of her child. The author helped the patient to say goodbye to her child and accept the child’s death calmly, such that she had no regrets about the experience. This nursing experience may serve as a reference to nurses managing similar cases in the future. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dying%20baby" title="dying baby">dying baby</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mother" title=" mother"> mother</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=grief" title=" grief"> grief</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Watson%E2%80%99s%20theory" title=" Watson’s theory"> Watson’s theory</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84721/nursing-experience-of-helping-the-mother-of-a-dying-baby-by-applying-watsons-theory-of-human-caring" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84721.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">172</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">312</span> Kinetic Modeling of Transesterification of Triacetin Using Synthesized Ion Exchange Resin (SIERs) </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hafizuddin%20W.%20Yussof">Hafizuddin W. Nine different SIERs (SIER1-9) with QN+OH- were prepared by suspension polymerization of vinylbenzyl chloride-divinylbenzene (VBC-DVB) copolymers in the presence of n-heptane (pore-forming agent). The amine group was successfully grafted into the polymeric resin beads through functionalization with trimethylamine. These SIERs are then used as a catalyst for the transesterification of triacetin with methanol. A set of differential equations that represents the Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson (LHHW) and Eley-Rideal (ER) models for the transesterification reaction were developed. These kinetic models of LHHW and ER were fitted to the experimental data. Overall, the synthesized ion exchange resin-catalyzed reaction were well-described by the Eley-Rideal model compared to LHHW models, with sum of square error (SSE) of 0.742 and 0.996, respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anion%20exchange%20resin" title="anion exchange resin">anion exchange resin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eley-Rideal" title=" Eley-Rideal"> Eley-Rideal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson" title=" Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson"> Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transesterification" title=" transesterification "> transesterification </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13977/kinetic-modeling-of-transesterification-of-triacetin-using-synthesized-ion-exchange-resin-siers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/13977.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">362</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">311</span> Use Cloud-Based Watson Deep Learning Platform to Train Models Faster and More Accurate </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Susan%20Diamond">Susan Diamond</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Machine Learning workloads have traditionally been run in high-performance computing (HPC) environments, where users log in to dedicated machines and utilize the attached GPUs to run training jobs on huge datasets. Training of large neural network models is very resource intensive, and even after exploiting parallelism and accelerators such as GPUs, a single training job can still take days. Consequently, the cost of hardware is a barrier to entry. Even when upfront cost is not a concern, the lead time to set up such an HPC environment takes months from acquiring hardware to set up the hardware with the right set of firmware, software installed and configured. Furthermore, scalability is hard to achieve in a rigid traditional lab environment. Therefore, it is slow to react to the dynamic change in the artificial intelligent industry. Watson Deep Learning as a service, a cloud-based deep learning platform that mitigates the long lead time and high upfront investment in hardware. It enables robust and scalable sharing of resources among the teams in an organization. It is designed for on-demand cloud environments. Providing a similar user experience in a multi-tenant cloud environment comes with its own unique challenges regarding fault tolerance, performance, and security. Watson Deep Learning as a service tackles these challenges and present a deep learning stack for the cloud environments in a secure, scalable and fault-tolerant manner. It supports a wide range of deep-learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, Caffe, Torch, Theano, and MXNet etc. These frameworks reduce the effort and skillset required to design, train, and use deep learning models. Deep Learning as a service is used at IBM by AI researchers in areas including machine translation, computer vision, and healthcare. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title="deep learning">deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=machine%20learning" title=" machine learning"> machine learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20computing" title=" cognitive computing"> cognitive computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=model%20training" title=" model training"> model training</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84279/use-cloud-based-watson-deep-learning-platform-to-train-models-faster-and-more-accurate" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84279.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">209</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">310</span> Internal Methane Dry Reforming Kinetic Models in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeed%20Moarrefi">Saeed Moarrefi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shou-Han%20Zhou"> Shou-Han Zhou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liyuan%20Fan"> Liyuan Fan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Coupling with solid oxide fuel cells, methane dry reforming is a promising pathway for energy production while mitigating carbon emissions. However, the influence of carbon dioxide and electrochemical reactions on the internal dry reforming reaction within the fuel cells remains debatable, requiring accurate kinetic models to describe the internal reforming behaviors. We employed the Power-Law and Langmuir Hinshelwood–Hougen Watson models in an electrolyte-supported solid oxide fuel cell with a NiO-GDC-YSZ anode. The current density used in this study ranges from 0 to 1000 A/m2 at 973 K to 1173 K to estimate various kinetic parameters. The influence of the electrochemical reactions on the adsorption terms, the equilibrium of the reactions, the activation energy, the pre-exponential factor of the rate constant, and the adsorption equilibrium constant were studied. This study provides essential parameters for future simulations and highlights the need for a more detailed examination of reforming kinetic models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dry%20reforming%20kinetics" title="dry reforming kinetics">dry reforming kinetics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Langmuir%20Hinshelwood%E2%80%93Hougen%20Watson" title=" Langmuir Hinshelwood–Hougen Watson"> Langmuir Hinshelwood–Hougen Watson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power-law" title=" power-law"> power-law</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SOFC" title=" SOFC"> SOFC</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/191385/internal-methane-dry-reforming-kinetic-models-in-solid-oxide-fuel-cells" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/191385.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">22</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">309</span> Estimation of a Finite Population Mean under Random Non Response Using Improved Nadaraya and Watson Kernel Weights</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nelson%20Bii">Nelson Bii</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christopher%20Ouma"> Christopher Ouma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=John%20Odhiambo"> John Odhiambo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Non-response is a potential source of errors in sample surveys. It introduces bias and large variance in the estimation of finite population parameters. Regression models have been recognized as one of the techniques of reducing bias and variance due to random non-response using auxiliary data. In this study, it is assumed that random non-response occurs in the survey variable in the second stage of cluster sampling, assuming full auxiliary information is available throughout. Auxiliary information is used at the estimation stage via a regression model to address the problem of random non-response. In particular, the auxiliary information is used via an improved Nadaraya-Watson kernel regression technique to compensate for random non-response. The asymptotic bias and mean squared error of the estimator proposed are derived. Besides, a simulation study conducted indicates that the proposed estimator has smaller values of the bias and smaller mean squared error values compared to existing estimators of finite population mean. The proposed estimator is also shown to have tighter confidence interval lengths at a 95% coverage rate. The results obtained in this study are useful, for instance, in choosing efficient estimators of the finite population mean in demographic sample surveys. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mean%20squared%20error" title="mean squared error">mean squared error</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20non-response" title=" random non-response"> random non-response</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=two-stage%20cluster%20sampling" title=" two-stage cluster sampling"> two-stage cluster sampling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=confidence%20interval%20lengths" title=" confidence interval lengths"> confidence interval lengths</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117332/estimation-of-a-finite-population-mean-under-random-non-response-using-improved-nadaraya-and-watson-kernel-weights" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/117332.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">140</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">308</span> Structural Insights into the Bypass of the Major Deaminated Purines by Translesion Synthesis DNA Polymerase</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hunmin%20Jung">Hunmin Jung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michael%20Hawkins"> Michael Hawkins</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seongmin%20Lee"> Seongmin Lee</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The exocyclic amines of nucleobases can undergo deamination by various DNA damaging agents such as reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide, and water. The deamination of guanine and adenine generates the promutagenic xanthine and hypoxanthine, respectively. The exocyclic amines of bases in DNA are hydrogen bond donors, while the carbonyl moiety generated by the base deamination acts as hydrogen bond acceptors, which can alter base pairing properties of the purines. Xanthine is known to base pair with both cytosine and thymine, while hypoxanthine predominantly pairs with cytosine to promote A to G mutations. Despite the known promutagenicity of the major deaminated purines, structures of DNA polymerase bypassing these lesions have not been reported. To gain insights into the deaminated-induced mutagenesis, we solved crystal structures of human DNA polymerase η (polη) catalyzing across xanthine and hypoxanthine. In the catalytic site of polη, the deaminated guanine (i.e., xanthine) forms three Watson-Crick-like hydrogen bonds with an incoming dCTP, indicating the O2-enol tautomer of xanthine involves in the base pairing. The formation of the enol tautomer appears to be promoted by the minor groove contact by Gln38 of polη. When hypoxanthine is at the templating position, the deaminated adenine uses its O6-keto tautomer to form two Watson-Crick hydrogen bonds with an incoming dCTP, providing the structural basis for the high promutagenicity of hypoxanthine. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20damage" title="DNA damage">DNA damage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20polymerase" title="DNA polymerase">DNA polymerase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deamination" title="deamination">deamination</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mutagenesis" title="mutagenesis">mutagenesis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tautomerization" title="tautomerization">tautomerization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=translesion%20synthesis" title="translesion synthesis">translesion synthesis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149816/structural-insights-into-the-bypass-of-the-major-deaminated-purines-by-translesion-synthesis-dna-polymerase" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149816.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">134</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">307</span> Indigenous Influences on American Osteopathy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lewis%20Mehl-Madrona">Lewis Mehl-Madrona</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Josephine%20Conte"> Josephine Conte</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Barbara%20Mainguy"> Barbara Mainguy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We explore the historical connection of Andrew Taylor Still with the aboriginal nations placed in Missouri, notably the Shawnee, Pawnee, Kickapoo, Cherokee, and the Pottowattomy. Still was fluent in Shawnee and himself was part Native American (Lumbee). These nations had well-developed forms of hands-on healing as well as practicing lightning bone setting. They were more sophisticated than their European-derived neighbors in treating fractures and discolocations. We trace Still’s writings as evidence for his connectedness with these people and respect for their traditions. We explore the traditional hands-on therapies of these nations and discover that they are quite similar to osteopathy. We propose that Still was a translator of traditional manual medicine of the nations into the mainstream of American society. While, surely, he made his own personal contributions to manual medicine, he did not invent osteopathy de novo but relied on methods that were well-developed across centuries for his inspiration. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=indigenous%20healing" title="indigenous healing">indigenous healing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=indigenous%20bodywork" title=" indigenous bodywork"> indigenous bodywork</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=American%20osteopathy" title=" American osteopathy"> American osteopathy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrew%20Taylor%20Still" title=" Andrew Taylor Still"> Andrew Taylor Still</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cherokee" title=" Cherokee"> Cherokee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shawnee" title=" Shawnee"> Shawnee</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134446/indigenous-influences-on-american-osteopathy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/134446.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">225</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">306</span> An Evaluation of the MathMates Program Implemented in Andrew Hamilton Public School as Part of College-Community Initiatives</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Haofei%20Li">Haofei Li</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> To support academic growth and foster love of learning, MathMates has been introduced for grade 6-8 students at Andrew Hamilton public school in 2022. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights for funding organizations seeking to understand the impact and costs of math tutoring interventions on student academic achievement, which also emphasizes the importance of the collaborative efforts between higher education and local public schools. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematics%20education" title="mathematics education">mathematics education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mathematics%20tutoring" title=" mathematics tutoring"> mathematics tutoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=college-community%20initiative" title=" college-community initiative"> college-community initiative</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=middle%20schools" title=" middle schools"> middle schools</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Philadelphia%20public%20schools" title=" Philadelphia public schools"> Philadelphia public schools</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=after-school%20program" title=" after-school program"> after-school program</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PSSA" title=" PSSA"> PSSA</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166163/an-evaluation-of-the-mathmates-program-implemented-in-andrew-hamilton-public-school-as-part-of-college-community-initiatives" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166163.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">89</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">305</span> Case-Based Reasoning Application to Predict Geological Features at Site C Dam Construction Project</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shahnam%20Behnam%20Malekzadeh">Shahnam Behnam Malekzadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ian%20Kerr"> Ian Kerr</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tyson%20Kaempffer"> Tyson Kaempffer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Teague%20Harper"> Teague Harper</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrew%20Watson"> Andrew Watson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Site C Hydroelectric dam is currently being constructed in north-eastern British Columbia on sub-horizontal sedimentary strata that dip approximately 15 meters from one bank of the Peace River to the other. More than 615 pressure sensors (Vibrating Wire Piezometers) have been installed on bedding planes (BPs) since construction began, with over 80 more planned before project completion. These pressure measurements are essential to monitor the stability of the rock foundation during and after construction and for dam safety purposes. BPs are identified by their clay gouge infilling, which varies in thickness from less than 1 to 20 mm and can be challenging to identify as the core drilling process often disturbs or washes away the gouge material. Without the use of depth predictions from nearby boreholes, stratigraphic markers, and downhole geophysical data, it is difficult to confidently identify BP targets for the sensors. In this paper, a Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) method was used to develop an empirical model called the Bedding Plane Elevation Prediction (BPEP) to help geologists and geotechnical engineers to predict geological features and bedding planes at new locations in a fast and accurate manner. To develop CBR, a database was developed based on 64 pressure sensors already installed on key bedding planes BP25, BP28, and BP31 on the Right Bank, including bedding plane elevations and coordinates. Thirteen (20%) of the most recent cases were selected to validate and evaluate the accuracy of the developed model, while the similarity was defined as the distance between previous cases and recent cases to predict the depth of significant BPs. The average difference between actual BP elevations and predicted elevations for above BPs was ±55cm, while the actual results showed that 69% of predicted elevations were within ±79 cm of actual BP elevations while 100% of predicted elevations for new cases were within ±99cm range. Eventually, the actual results will be used to develop the database and improve BPEP to perform as a learning machine to predict more accurate BP elevations for future sensor installations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=case-based%20reasoning" title="case-based reasoning">case-based reasoning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geological%20feature" title=" geological feature"> geological feature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geology" title=" geology"> geology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=piezometer" title=" piezometer"> piezometer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pressure%20sensor" title=" pressure sensor"> pressure sensor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=core%20logging" title=" core logging"> core logging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dam%20construction" title=" dam construction"> dam construction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164208/case-based-reasoning-application-to-predict-geological-features-at-site-c-dam-construction-project" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164208.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">80</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">304</span> Analysis of DNA from Fired Cartridge Casings</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20Mawlood">S. Our work has showed that DNA samples can survive on cartridges even after firing. The study also raised the possibility of determining other information such as the age of the donor. Such information may be invaluable in certain cases where spent cartridges from automatic weapons are left behind at the scene of a crime. In spite of the nature of touch evidence and exposure to high chamber temperatures during shooting, we were still capable to retrieve enough DNA for profile typing. In order to estimate age of contributor, DNA methylation levels were analyzed using EpiTect system for retrieved DNA. It is the most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide among women. It is a molecularly and clinically heterogeneous disease. Moreover, it is a hormone–dependent tumor in which estrogens can regulate the growth of breast cells by binding with estrogen receptors (ERs). Moreover, the use of natural products in cancer therapeutics is due to their properties of biocompatibility and less toxicity. Plants are the vast reservoirs for various bioactive compounds. Coleus barbatus (Lamiaceae) contains anticancer properties against several cancer cell lines. Method: In the present study, an attempt is being made to enrich the knowledge of the anticancer activity of pure compounds extracted from Coleus barbatus (Andrew). On human breast cancer cell lines MCF-7. Here in, we are assessing the antiproliferative activity of Coleus barbatus (Andrew) plant extracts against MCF 7 and also evaluating their toxicity in normal human mammary cell lines such as Human Mammary Epithelial Cells (HMEC). The active fraction of plant extract was further purified with the help of Flash chromatography, Medium Pressure Liquid Chromatography (MPLC) and preparative High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The structure of pure compounds will be elucidated by using modern spectroscopic methods like Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS) methods. Later, the growth inhibition morphological assessment of cancer cells and cell cycle analysis of purified compounds were assessed using FACS. The growth and progression of signaling molecules HER2, GRP78 was studied by secretion assay using ELISA and expression analysis by flow cytometry. Result: Cytotoxic effect against MCF-7 with IC50 values were derived from dose response curves, using six concentrations of twofold serially diluted samples, by SOFTMax Pro software (Molecular device) and respectively Ellipticine and 0.5% DMSO were used as a positive and negative control. Conclusion: The present study shows the significance of various bioactive compounds extracted from Coleus barbatus (Andrew) root material. It acts as an anti-proliferative and shows cytotoxic effects on human breast cancer cell lines MCF7. The plant extracts play an important role pharmacologically. The whole plant has been used in traditional medicine for decades and the studies done have authenticated the practice. Earlier, as described, the plant has been used in the ayurveda and homeopathy medicine. However, more clinical and pathological studies must be conducted to investigate the unexploited potential of the plant. These studies will be very useful for drug designing in the future. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coleus%20barbatus" title="coleus barbatus">coleus barbatus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HPLC" title=" HPLC"> HPLC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MPLC" title=" MPLC"> MPLC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NMR" title=" NMR"> NMR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MCF7" title=" MCF7"> MCF7</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flash%20chromatograph" title=" flash chromatograph"> flash chromatograph</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ESI-MS" title=" ESI-MS"> ESI-MS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FACS" title=" FACS"> FACS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ELISA." title=" ELISA."> ELISA.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169291/anti-proliferative-activity-and-her2-receptor-expression-analysis-of-mcf-7-breast-cancer-cell-cells-by-plant-extract-coleus-barbatus-andrew" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169291.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">114</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">302</span> Improving Student Retention with Summer Bridge Programs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elizabeth%20Watson">Elizabeth Watson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sara%20Vogt"> Sara Vogt</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The transition from high school to college can be an exciting and confusing time for many students, especially college students with disabilities. Dublin Carol presents John’s chequered past through his reminiscences of alcohol addiction and Shining City tells the story of John who is haunted by the ghost of his wife, recently died in a car accident, and who seeks the help of Ian, a therapist. At first, the significance of storytelling as an integral part of Irish culture is highlighted. Such a tradition features prominently in contemporary Irish drama. The paper concludes that it is the power of narrative and its therapeutic impact and not the act of psychotherapy and treatment which brings signs of change to characters’ lives. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Conor%20McPherson" title="Conor McPherson">Conor McPherson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drama" title=" drama"> drama</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=psychotherapy" title=" psychotherapy"> psychotherapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=storytelling" title=" storytelling"> storytelling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86737/when-talk-is-the-cure-for-the-morning-after-talking-therapy-in-conor-mcphersons-dublin-carol-and-shining-city" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86737.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">315</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">300</span> The Relationship between Top Management Replacement and Risk, Sale and Cash Volatilities with Respect to Unqualified Audit Opinion</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Dasineh">Mehdi Dasineh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yadollah%20Tariverdi"> Yadollah Tariverdi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marzieh%20H.%20Takhti"> Marzieh H. The analytical model and FDTD simulation tool are then compared and used to predict the system performance for various transmitter depths and optimum frequencies of operation. However, many low and middle-income countries lack reliable and recent census data. To achieve reliable and accurate census and survey outputs, up-to-date census enumeration areas and digital national sampling frames are critical. Census enumeration areas (EAs) are the smallest geographic units for collection, disseminating, and analyzing census data and are often used as a national sampling frame to serve various socio-economic surveys. Even for countries that are wealthy and stable, creating and updating EAs is a difficult yet crucial step in preparing for a national census. Such a process is commonly done manually, either by digitizing small geographic units on high-resolution satellite imagery or walking the boundaries of units, both of which are extremely expensive. We have developed a user-friendly tool that could be employed to generate draft EA boundaries automatically. The tool is based on high-resolution gridded population and settlement datasets, GPS household locations, building footprints and uses publicly available natural, man-made and administrative boundaries. Initial outputs were produced in Burkina Faso, Paraguay, Somalia, Togo, Niger, Guinea, and Zimbabwe. The results indicate that the EAs are in line with international standards, including boundaries that are easily identifiable and follow ground features, have no overlaps, are compact and free of pockets and disjoints, and the boundaries are nested within administrative boundaries. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=enumeration%20areas" title="enumeration areas">enumeration areas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=national%20sampling%20frame" title=" national sampling frame"> national sampling frame</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gridded%20population%20data" title=" gridded population data"> gridded population data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=preEA%20tool" title=" preEA tool"> preEA tool</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146104/automatic-generation-of-census-enumeration-area-and-national-sampling-frame-to-achieve-sustainable-development-goals" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146104.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">144</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">295</span> The Effect of Soil Fractal Dimension on the Performance of Cement Stabilized Soil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nkiru%20I.%20Ibeakuzie">Nkiru I. Since strength development in cemented soil relies not only on cement content but also on soil PSD, this study will investigate the possibility of reducing cement content by changing the PSD of soil, without compromising on strength, reduced permeability, and compressibility. A series of soil aggregate mixes will be prepared in the laboratory. The mass fractal dimension Dₘ of each mix will be determined from sieve analysis data prior to stabilization with cement. Transfer of information across networks is susceptible to being exploited by attackers engaging in malicious activity. In this paper, we leverage steganography and cryptography to create a layered security solution to protect the information being transmitted. The first layer of security leverages crypto- graphic techniques to scramble the information so that it cannot be deciphered even if the steganography-based layer is compromised. The second layer of security relies on steganography to disguise the encrypted in- formation so that it cannot be seen. We consider three cryptographic cipher methods in the cryptography layer, namely, Playfair cipher, Blowfish cipher, and Hills cipher. Then, the encrypted message is passed through the least significant bit (LSB) to the steganography algorithm for further encryption. Both encryption approaches are combined efficiently to help secure information in transit over a network. This multi-layered encryption is a solution that will benefit cloud platforms, social media platforms and networks that regularly transfer private information such as banks and insurance companies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cryptography" title="cryptography">cryptography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steganography" title=" steganography"> steganography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=layered%20security" title=" layered security"> layered security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cipher" title=" Cipher"> Cipher</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=encryption" title=" encryption"> encryption</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168479/double-encrypted-data-communication-using-cryptography-and-steganography" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168479.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">85</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">292</span> Social Network Analysis as a Research and Pedagogy Tool in Problem-Focused Undergraduate Social Innovation Courses</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sean%20McCarthy">Sean McCarthy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrice%20M.%20Ludwig"> Patrice M. Specifically, it analyzes how students were taught to collect data on community assets and to visualize the connections between those assets using Kumu, an SNA data visualization tool. Further, the case study shows how social network data was also collected about student teams via their written communications in Slack, an enterprise messaging tool, which enabled instructors to manage and guide student research activity throughout the semester. The discussion presents how SNA methods can simultaneously inform both community-based research and social innovation pedagogy through the use of data visualization and collaboration-focused communication technologies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20innovation" title="social innovation">social innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20network%20analysis" title=" social network analysis"> social network analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedagogy" title=" pedagogy"> pedagogy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=problem-based%20learning" title=" problem-based learning"> problem-based learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20visualization" title=" data visualization"> data visualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20communication%20technologies" title=" information communication technologies"> information communication technologies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105750/social-network-analysis-as-a-research-and-pedagogy-tool-in-problem-focused-undergraduate-social-innovation-courses" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105750.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">147</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">291</span> Using Mixed Methods in Studying Classroom Social Network Dynamics</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nashrawan%20Naser%20Taha">Nashrawan Naser Taha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrew%20M.%20Cox"> Andrew M. This study collected survey responses from 226 educators in North Carolina to better understand their perspectives on the legislation and their self-efficacy in supporting student mental health needs. Key findings of the study reveal that the mandated trainings increased educator awareness of student mental health, and higher awareness was linked to higher self-efficacy in supporting student mental health needs. Additionally, the results showed that educators who identify as Black had lower levels of self-efficacy in supporting student mental health. Additionally, rural educators were least likely to support the legislation in comparison to their urban and suburban counterparts. It must also compensate for all variations in angle or length resulting from manoeuvring and deflection for perfect synchronization between joints. Torsional fatigue failures occur frequently at the connection parts of the spline joints in the end of the drive shaft. In this study, the fatigue life of a drive shaft of passenger vehicle was estimated by using the finite element analysis. A commercial software of n-Code was applied under twisting load conditions, i.e. 0~134kgf•m and 0~188kgf•m, in which the shear strain range-fatigue life relationship considering Signed Shear method, Smith-Watson-Topper equation, Neuber-Hoffman Seeger method, size sensitivity factor and surface roughness effect was taken into account. The estimated fatigue life was verified by a twisting load test of the real drive shaft in a test rig. Although data surrounding this epidemic is daunting, we coin the term “school-to-postsecondary pipeline” to explore proactive strategies that are currently working in K-12 education for African American students. The assumption that high school graduation, postsecondary matriculation, and social success are not the assumed norms for African American youth, positions the term “school-to-postsecondary pipeline” as the newly casted advocacy term for African American educational success. Using secondary data from the Children’s Defense Fund and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, we examine current conditions of educational accessibility and attainment for African American students, and provide effective strategies for classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to use for the immediate implementation in schools. These strategies include: (a) engaging instruction, (b) relevant curriculum, and (c) utilizing useful enrichment and community resources. By providing proactive steps towards the school-to-postsecondary pipeline, we hope to counter the docility of the school-to-prison pipeline as the assumed reality for African American youth. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=college%20access" title="college access">college access</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher%20education" title=" higher education"> higher education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=school-to-prison%20pipeline" title=" school-to-prison pipeline"> school-to-prison pipeline</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urban%20education%20reform" title=" urban education reform"> urban education reform</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20516/prison-pipeline-or-college-pathways-transforming-the-urban-classroom" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20516.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">537</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">285</span> Condition Monitoring of Railway Earthworks using Distributed Rayleigh Sensing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Andrew%20Hall">Andrew Hall</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paul%20Clarkson"> Paul Clarkson</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Climate change is predicted to increase the number of extreme weather events intensifying the strain on Railway Earthworks. The vulnerable slope is instrumented with conventional slope stability sensors allowing an assessment to be conducted of the application of Distributed Rayleigh Sensing as an earthwork condition monitoring tool to enhance the resilience of railway networks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=condition%20monitoring" title="condition monitoring">condition monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=railway%20earthworks" title=" railway earthworks"> railway earthworks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=distributed%20rayleigh%20sensing" title=" distributed rayleigh sensing"> distributed rayleigh sensing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climate%20change" title=" climate change"> climate change</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141052/condition-monitoring-of-railway-earthworks-using-distributed-rayleigh-sensing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/141052.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">206</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">284</span> An Emphasis on Creativity-Speak Words Increases Crowdfunding Success</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Trayan%20Kushev">Trayan Kushev</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=E.%20Shaunn%20Mattingly"> E. Further, this relationship is observed to be stronger for product-based campaigns (e.g., games, technology, design) and weaker for content-based campaigns (e.g., film, music, publishing). In addition, both positive linguistic tone and the use of words expressing gratitude in the text of the campaign strengthen the positive effect of creativity-speak on campaign success. <p
