Uppsala</strong></p> <p class="rtecenter"><strong>Fellowships for Scholars (2015-2017)</strong></p> <p class="rtejustify">The School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, in collaboration with the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris, and the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, Uppsala, is organizing a Summer Program in Social Science starting in 2015. This innovative program will run in a three-year cycle, with two weeks taking place the first year in Princeton, one week the second year in Paris, and one week the third year in Uppsala. It is designed specifically for junior scholars from Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. It is open to all disciplines in the social sciences, including anthropology, sociology, history, psychology, economics, law and political science as well as neighboring disciplines, such as philosophy, political theory and literary criticism. The purpose is to constitute a genuinely international and interdisciplinary network of social scientists from regions of the world traditionally not well-represented in the three institutions involved in the program.</p> <p class="rtejustify">Fellows of the Summer Program in Social Science will have their own research project, which they will pursue during the period of the program and will present at various stages. This research can be related to the theme of the cycle: “Inequalities and Differences”, but applications are also encouraged for projects unrelated to the theme. It is expected that the research will be at an advanced stage of its development so as to render discussions of its object, method and conclusions richer and intellectual interactions among fellows more fruitful. Each cycle will include approximately twenty scholars from the three regions mentioned.</p> <p class="rtejustify">The overall ambition of the Summer Program in Social Science is to enrich and expand the realm of the social sciences through the confrontation of different intellectual traditions and perspectives, to facilitate and enhance the dialogue between various scientific disciplines and communities, and to strengthen international networks between the global South and global North. Professor <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20160305023431/https://www.sss.ias.edu/faculty/fassin">Didier Fassin</a>, at the Institute for Advanced Study, will lead the Summer Program in Social Science. Professor <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20160305023431/http://crh.ehess.fr/index.php?/membres/membres-statutaires/120-green-nancy-l">Nancy L. Green</a> will be the corresponding coordinator at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. Tensions and controversies have emerged regarding the relationship between inequalities and democracy, differences and multiculturalism, analytical and normative approaches, causal interpretations and political responses. These phenomena have given rise to new ways of studying, analyzing, interpreting, and addressing inequalities and differences, both in the social world and within the social sciences. New questions have been posed concerning their justification, measurement, conceptual framing, historical trends, social processes, and political issues.
