So they hid<MH5641> him from Athaliah<MH6271>, and he was not put<MH4191> to<MH4191> death<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>So he was kept hidden<MH2244> with her in the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068> for six<MH8337a> years<MH8141>, while Athaliah<MH6271> was reigning<MH4427a> over<MH5921> the land<MH776>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Now in the seventh<MH7637> year<MH8141> Jehoiada<MH3077> sent<MH7971> <i>orders</i> and brought<MH3947> the captains<MH8269> of hundreds<MH3967> of the Carites<MH3746> and of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>guards<MH7323>, and brought<MH935> them to himself at the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>. Then he made<MH3772> a covenant<MH1285> with them and put<MH7650> them under<MH7650> oath<MH7650> at the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>, and showed<MH7200> them the king’s<MH4428> son<MH1121>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And he commanded<MH6680> them, saying<MH559>, “This<MH2088> is the thing<MH1697> that you shall do<MH6213a>: a third<MH7992> of you, who come<MH935> in<MH935> on the Sabbath<MH7676> and keep<MH8104> watch<MH4931> over the king’s<MH4428> house<MH1004> <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>(a third<MH7992> also <i>shall be</i> at the gate<MH8179> Sur<MH5495>, and a third<MH7992> at the gate<MH8179> behind<MH310> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>guards<MH7323>), <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>shall keep<MH8104> watch<MH4931> over the house<MH1004> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>for defense<MH4535>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And two<MH8147> parts<MH3027> of you, all<MH3605> who go<MH3318> out<MH3318> on the Sabbath<MH7676>, shall also keep<MH8104> watch<MH4931> over the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068> for the king<MH4428>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Then you shall surround<MH5362b, 5439, 5921> the king<MH4428>, each<MH376> with his weapons<MH3627> in his hand<MH3027>; and whoever comes<MH935> within<MH413> the ranks<MH7713> shall be put<MH4191> to<MH4191> death<MH4191>. And you are to be with the king<MH4428> when he goes<MH3318> out<MH3318> and when he comes<MH935> in<MH935>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>So the captains<MH8269> of hundreds<MH3967> acted<MH6213a> in accordance with everything<MH3605> that Jehoiada<MH3077> the priest<MH3548> commanded<MH6680>. And each<MH376> one<MH376> of them took<MH3947> his men<MH376> who were to come<MH935> in<MH935> on the Sabbath<MH7676>, along<MH5973> with<MH5973> those who were to go<MH3318> out<MH3318> on the Sabbath<MH7676>, and they came<MH935> to Jehoiada<MH3077> the priest<MH3548>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then the priest<MH3548> gave<MH5414> the captains<MH8269> of hundreds<MH3967> the spears<MH2595> and shields<MH7982> that <i>had been</i> King<MH4428> David’s<MH1732>, which<MH834> <i>were</i> in the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>The <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>guards<MH7323> stood<MH5975>, each<MH376> with his weapons<MH3627> in his hand<MH3027>, from the right<MH3233> side<MH3802> of the house<MH1004> to the left<MH8042> side<MH3802> of the house<MH1004>, by the altar<MH4196> and by the house<MH1004>, around<MH5439> the king<MH4428>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Then he brought<MH3318> the king’s<MH4428> son<MH1121> out<MH3318>, and put<MH5414> the crown<MH5145> on him and <i>gave him</i> the testimony<MH5715>; and they made<MH4427a> him king<MH4427a> and anointed<MH4886> him, and they clapped<MH5221> their hands<MH3709> and said<MH559>, “<i>Long</i> live<MH2421a> the king<MH4428>!” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>When Athaliah<MH6271> heard<MH8085> the noise<MH6963> of the guards<MH7323> <i>and of</i> the people<MH5971a>, she came<MH935> to the people<MH5971a> at the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And she looked<MH7200>, and behold<MH2009>, the king<MH4428> was standing<MH5975> by the pillar<MH5982> according to the custom<MH4941>, with the captains<MH8269> and the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>trumpeters<MH2689> beside<MH413> the king<MH4428>; and all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> of the land<MH776> were joyful<MH8056> and were blowing<MH8628> trumpets<MH2689>. Then Athaliah<MH6271> tore<MH7167> her clothes<MH899b> and cried<MH7121> out<MH7121>, “Conspiracy<MH7195>! Conspiracy<MH7195>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And Jehoiada<MH3077> the priest<MH3548> commanded<MH6680> the captains<MH8269> of hundreds<MH3967> who were appointed<MH6485> over the army<MH2428> and said<MH559> to them, “Bring<MH3318> her out<MH3318> between<MH413, 4480, 1004> the ranks<MH7713>, and whoever follows<MH935, 310> her, put<MH4191> to<MH4191> death<MH4191> with the sword<MH2719>!” For the priest<MH3548> said<MH559>, “She is not to be put<MH4191> to<MH4191> death<MH4191> at the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>So they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>seized<MH7760, 3027> her, and when <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>they brought<MH935> her to the horses’<MH5483b> entrance<MH3996> of the king’s<MH4428> house<MH1004>, she was put<MH4191> to<MH4191> death<MH4191> there<MH8033>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Then Jehoiada<MH3077> made<MH3772> a covenant<MH1285> between<MH996> the LORD<MH3068>, the king<MH4428>, and the people<MH5971a>, that they would be the LORD’S<MH3068> people<MH5971a>, and between<MH996> the king<MH4428> and the people<MH5971a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> of the land<MH776> came<MH935> to the house<MH1004> of Baal<MH1168a> and tore<MH5422> it down<MH5422>; they thoroughly<MH3190> smashed<MH7665> his altars<MH4196> and his images<MH6754> in<MH7665> pieces<MH7665>, and they killed<MH2026> Mattan<MH4977> the priest<MH3548> of Baal<MH1168a> before<MH6440> the altars<MH4196>. Then the priest<MH3548> appointed<MH7760> sentries<MH6486> over<MH5921> the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And he took<MH3947> the captains<MH8269> of hundreds<MH3967> and the Carites<MH3746>, and the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>guards<MH7323> and all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> of the land<MH776>; and they brought<MH3381> the king<MH4428> down<MH3381> from the house<MH1004> of the LORD<MH3068>, and came<MH935> by way<MH1870> of the gate<MH8179> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>guards<MH7323> to the king’s<MH4428> house<MH1004>. And he sat<MH3427> on the throne<MH3678> of the kings<MH4428>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/11-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>So all<MH3605> the people<MH5971a> of the land<MH776> rejoiced<MH8055> and the city<MH5892b> was<MH8252> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>peaceful<MH8252>.
